GREAT - Thanks Chris - I've been waiting for a thread like this.... our problem is as follows.....
The STCA subsystem only detects conflicts with relative bearings greater than 15 degrees on the horizontal axis, this is incorrect as it should detect them in the full 360 degree range, the types declared in the subsystem interface specifications are correct as degrees are in the range 0 to 359 and the 0 to 360 integer passed into the subsyetm from the multi-radar trackers is converted such that 360 degrees is cast to a 0 value as it should be.
Any ideas?
:D
To the best of my knowledge, STCA Sub-systems are the bits of air-traffic control setups which handle the Short Term Conflict Alerts.
If this is correct, then i am immediatly out of my depth.
If it were something as simple as C++ i would say that you are handling your type-casts wrong and need to check whether you are using signed or unsigned ints. However, i expect it is a bit more technical than that!!!!
You are indeed correct.
It is not however as "simple" (!!!!!!!!!!!) as C++, since it's a Cat 1 related system for Safety purposes, it's written in an accredited language ie Ada '83.
Thanks for trying anyway... actually that's not my problem anymore anyway, I'd ask about the stuff we're currently struggling with, but I'd have to have you shot afterwards, and that makes a mess ;)

Great idea Chris.
Your in luck. I've just had an email from the comp support man for work so hoping I've solved my email query. I'm really impressed I sent the email at 9.30 and he replied at 9.59 on a Sunday evening. The best bit is I'm not paying him, it's one of those queries we catch him with when he comes in the office.

Maria
Brilliant Idea Chris - I'll certainly be one of your best customers
Excellent Chris, Right
How do you put pictures onto pages like this one???
Right Gerry,
First step is to upload your pictures to some webspace. If you check with your internet service provider (ISP) you will probably find that they have provided you with some free space. If not try registering with a commercail provider such as Geocities (http://geocities.yahoo.com/) who provide free space.
They will provide instructions on how to upload images.
You will then have an address which points to your picture. It is important to make sure the link goes straight to the picture not to the webpage it is on.
This address will look something like this:
http://mysite.freeserve.com/crblakey/22.jpg
Next, create your message on the forums and enter the IMAGE tag. This can be done by clicking once on the IMG button at the top of the reply screen.
This appears: [img]
Then type the full address of the picture you wanted:
[img]http://mysite.freeserve.com/crblakey/22.jpg
Then click agan on the button which now says IMG*.
This will appear [ /img ] (but without the spaces.
You should have a line int he middle of your message that resembles this but without any spaces in it.
[ i m g ]http://mysite.freeserve.com/crblakey/22.jpg[ / i m g ]
And hey presto, a picture should appear when you post the message!!!

I have a question...
Does anyone know if SpyFerret is any good as an ad remover piece of software? I have to buy it to actually remove the advert files but I'm not sure if I'll be wasting my money.
Have already tried Ad-Aware which hasn't as yet got rid of "i-lookup" which is hi-jacking my browser in a real bad way!!!

I would have to say do NOT purchase SpyFerret. OnlinePCFix who produce it are currently being sued over the product as it contains several sections which have been hacked from other programs.
The main program that it is based on is a free download located here. (http://www.safer-networking.org/) The program is called SpyBot and is one of the best programs you can use for this purpose.
Although no spy-ware removal program can be 100%, this one seems to do the best.
And yes it removes I-Lookup. :D
Also, when your system is clear, be careful of what you download and install. Especially programs such as Gator and the options you select in programs like RealPlayer and Quicktime so you don't enable any monitoring programs.

OK, a few people seem to be having virus problems!!!
The main virus is w32.novarg.*
It is set to be active in launching denial of service attacks between 1st February - 12th February. As it is capable of scaning a hard drive and remailing itself, it is likely to circulate around a community like this one fairly quickly so everyone should ensure that their virus checkers are up to date and also, if poss, check that they are capble of blocking ths virus!!
A removal program has been developed by Symante and can be downloaded by clicking on this link. (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxNovarg.exe)
If you do download this program, please ensure that you are disconnected from the internet and that all applications are closed before running it.

Thanx Chris. So If my norton is picking them up, does that mean I'm safe?
Deb
In all probability, yes.
I ahve scanned and none have managed to get through to my computer as thye have been filtered out by Hotmail and my Firewall (ZoneAlarm).
It is probably wise to ensure you run a full system sweep by Norton (or any virus protector) before Feb 1st.

OK Uncle Chris
As the world knows Auntie Sin is a techno thickie, and I'm not sure if I've been spun a load of rubbish today.
We are going to be using a management system that we access through a portal and web link - This is going to contain sensitive info.
I questioned secuity and was told that as it is entered through a "portal" it cannot be hacked as the computer gaining access needs to be configured.
My reply was that teenages computers aren't configured to NASA but the still get in!
So what does it mean?
What's it all about?
And WTF is a portal????
Sin
Sin
A portal is just that, a doorway from one computer to another. For example, the Yahoo (http://www.yahoo.co.uk) homepage is a portal to the internet.
It is possibly to set computers up so that only machines running a certain program can access a link. I would assume that they will have considered all the security risks and worked to remove them before letting a system go live.
No system can be totally hacker proof, but they will have got it as near as possibly.
In reponse to the 3 PM's i have ahd today,
Yes, if ou have a computer problem you don't want to discuss on here as you are embarrassed it is a simple one, you can email/pm me.
I might post the answers (with no link to the questioner) here so that it benefits other people who might be having the same problem but too scared to ask!!

Right NT,
Sounds to me like one of a couple of things.
Firstly, do you mean when you post the message or when you are typing it? The highlighted grey box won't appear until you post the message. Try using the preview button to check.
Second, I am unsure what you mean by highlighting a section. As far as I know (and i could be wrong) there is no way to quote a single section. I think you have to click quote (top right hand corner of the post you wish to quote) to quote the entire message and then delete the sections you don't want to appear.
Third, are you using the right tags on the message. It should read
[ q u o t e ] QUOTED TEXT HERE [ / q u o t e ]
(but without the spaces)
Hope this helps

Hi Chris
I've recently transferred everything to a new hard drive and I'm getting error messages which are are a bit annoying. I just OK the error messages and everything works fine, but something must be fundamentally wrong for the damn things to be appearing in the first place.
The error messages I'm getting are:-
(1) When I open a Microsoft Office document it tells me that a document of the same name is already open. But it isn't.
(2) When I open Microsoft Outlook it tells me it can't find pop.freeserve.com.
(3) When I'm on the internet I occasionally get a message saying an error has occured and an error log is being created.
Any pointers you can give me will be most welcome :D

Chris,
I have recently downloaded ZoneAlarm firewall which for the first 15 days I am running as the Pro version. This includes a cache cleaner but the free version only has the firewall (which I will be left with in about 12 days).
As I'm sure you're aware it gets rid of pretty much everything that IE remembers which is quite handy... My question is this:
Can you clear the cache manually (I.E. Once I lose this function of ZoneAlarm)?
Cheers,
Stephen.
P.S. Feel free to answer the other questions first - No rush :)
Ello Chris hun,
I'm having a bit of a problem. i've managed to upload some pics of Meat onto pixagoggo.com, that bit's fine, but when i want to post them on here all i'm coming up with is little boxes with red crossess in them. I've typed in the url inside the [img] tabs, but i just cant figure out what to do. I even tried uploading the pics onto picit.com, but they wouldnt upload. Am now majorly confused. HELP!!!!!
With many many thanks to Stephen, i think i might well have this sorted!!!
Apparently pixagogo.com requires a password to view pics, that why i cant post em properly - will try geocities, see how that goes..
Geocities won't work, because the don't allow hotlinking.
Try www.uploadit.org
If you still struggle heat let me know ... I think I've found a way round my websapce problem, so should have ooodles free very soon ;)

Did someone whistle? ;)
Not sure what your problem is here I'mk afraid Patricia... if you're getting a phpBB error then the implication to me is that it's at the MLUKFC servers end and not on your PC, but I'm not 100% certain on that. No one else seems to be claiming problems from what I can see.
All I can suggest is to clear your cache and history and have another go.

Which page shows the database error?
Community!
This is probably because that error message page is still stored somewhere in you disk cache.
Try this:
Click on the community link and make it open in a new window. On Windows systems you usually use a right click and select "Open in new window" from the context menu. Could be the same on Mac OS. If you see that error message again, try to click the "Reload/Refresh" symbol of your browser. Try to click it while pressing the "ALT", "CTRL" or "SHIFT" key. I don't know the exact combination, but usually a click on Refresh while holding down one of these special keys forces your browser reload the current page and ignore/bypass your temporary internet storage (cache).

I've just tried on my PC, it worked but I got automatically logged out!! Each time a page opens I still have this error message, I click back then I try to open again and then at the second attempt it opens normally!

OK,
This involves editing the registry - YOU MUST BACKUP THE REGISTRY BEFORE ATTEMPTING THESE!!
1. Click Start, click Run, and type Regedit.
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogo n.
3. Right-click within the right pane, point to New, and then click String Value.
4. Name the value KeepRasConnections.
5. Double-click KeepRasConnections, and set the value data to 1.

Having problems getting multiple monitors to work as I want them to...
Have a laptop and additional monitor. I want the monitor to play a Powerpoint presentation continuously and the laptop to run the presentation unless I need it to run something else. Basically, we're doing an exhibition on Tuesday and the laptop may be needed to show other things, but don't want passers by to see what I'm doing on the big monitor. I can get it to work the other way round, but not the way I want!!!!

Hey Chris.
Was just wondering if you'd found anymore information on how to back up the registry in Windows XP :??:
Stephen.
Hi stephen.
Ok, first of all you need to install the XP system backup utility.
Insert your Windows XP Home Edition CD and using Explorer, go to the following folder:
CD-ROM Drive:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP

Any problems PM/IM/Email me!!
Hi,
I am having a problem with MSN Messenger on my computer and was wondering if anyone here could help....
When anyone tries to sign in a thing comes up saying : "sorry we could not sign you in because the sign-in name you entered does not exist or your password is incorrect"....
But that's not true! There's 5 of us in this house and it says that for everyone - there's nothin wrong with our sign-ins or our passwords, so what's it playing at?
We have tried uninstalling and re-installing, but that hasn't worked either.
We cant get into hotmail at all using explorer either.....
Anyone know what the problem might be, and how to fix it?!
Thank you!!!!
Louise
Hi stephen.
Ok, first of all you need to install the XP system backup utility.
Insert your Windows XP Home Edition CD and using Explorer, go to the following folder:
CD-ROM Drive:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP
In that folder there is a file called Ntbackup.msi Double click on it and a wizard will start adn work through the installation.
When it is complete, you can run the Backup Utility by going to
Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Backup
When is starts, click on the advanced mode option.
Select the Job menu adn select New.
A set of checkboxes are shown, click on the one labelled System State
Check the Backup destination is set to the right place eg. CD-RW or wherever!
Choose Start Backup.
This will backup your registry and all system/startup files.
Any problems PM/IM/Email me!!
Desculpe for butting in here, but:
If I'm not mistaken, WindozeXP supports restore points. Wouldn't it be more simple to just set up a new restore point?
What about simply exporting the registry keys affected by the changes?
I never thought of that R!!!
If system restore backups up registry then that would probably work as well!

Aargh  any of you two geniuses know why my home page keeps going to a different one. I'm on freeserve and home page always set to open on it, but when I go to Internet Options to clean out cookies and temp files, it's always changed to a different one. A friend gave me a link to Start Page Guard, and I sorted it etc., but when I booted up this morning, it had gone back from freeserve to the other one. Have tried everything I can think of (basically I can sort anything if I sit and take my time) but this has got me really stumped!

Caz,
May I ask what the other page it reverts to is? It could be some software you've installed that wants you to buy more stuff. Failing that it could be something in your start-up programs changing it all the time.
Chris is probably better suited to answering that.
it keeps changing to mysearch.com ..... haven't installed any software for ages .... although i had a weird and wonderful toolbar that disappeared AFTER i downloaded and ran Ad aware 6

I had this problem not so long ago... The toolbars are annoying but seeing as it has gone that is not a problem any more - Now, the mysearch.com homepage... You will probably have, somewhere in your machine, mysearch.com lodged into a dark corner which is why it keeps re-appearing. Try doing a search for "mysearch.com uninstall" or something like that, chances are there will be a remover for it.
Anyway, think that made sense, and hopefully it is right :?
Stephen.
Best bet is to remove the software as it cna be used by viruses!!
Open 'Add/Remove Programs' in the Control Panel. Select the 'My Search Bar' (MySearch variant), 'MyWay Speed Bar' (MyWay) or 'My Web Search Bar' (MyWeb) entry and click 'Remove'. For the MyWeb variant, be sure to also remove 'Fun Web Products Easy Installer'.
You can then reset your home page (Internet Options->General->Start Page) if it has been changed, and search settings (Internet Options->Programs->Reset web settings).

I am looking at going onto broadband. I've been told that if I do I will need a firewall as well as antivirus software. Any recommendations as my antivirus software is due to be renewed this month.
Was looking at Amazon at McAfee and Norton and they seem to have so many positive/negative responses that I'm very confused
Personally I use Norton and think it's great, but McAfee are well lmwon company too, and provide much the same facilities as far as I know. Everywhere I've worked has used McAfee for its virus protection. Either will do the job admiably.

Best bet for a fire wall is ZoneAlarm I would say. It's either free for the standard version or pay for a pro version which includes other useful features.

URGENT! If anyone sends me an e mail with an attachment please enter "Paradise" into the subject title somewhere. Otherwise I'll be forced to delete just to make sure they aren't a virus.
I'm receiving e mails with attachments with webmaster.com written as the sender, and unless I recognise the particular topic, and know for sure its safe, I delete it straight away.

Dottie, this could be due to the virus emails going around, although not too sure. I've had several, not from anyone on here i hasten to add. I passed them onto a friend, without opening them, who in turn sent a Malware Notice to the email address from which it came. If you would like me to do the same for you, contact me via pm on here, or via my hotmail addie and my friend will send a Malware Notice to whatever site they are coming from. Unfortunately, you will need to fwd the email to me, but you can do this just by hitting fwd and sending to my addie. There is no need to open the email.

I would really appreciate it.
Caz when I receive another one like this I'll forward to you straight away ok - Thanks for your advice :)
Not a problem Dottie, anything to help a fellow addict lol.
This problem is driving me nuts!!
I can suddenly (on about Thursday) no longer send any e-mail via my KasimInfo.com Outlook Express programme. My computer appears to send it but people don't always receive it (I check it with my AOL account and it never arrives there). I can receive e-mails fine though.
My ISP is AOL (which I detest but I'm signed up with for a few more months) but whenever I log onto Virgin.net, I can send my KasimInfo.com e-mail with no problem.
I've had this setup for about 2 years and not had any problems. I can't keep logging onto Virgin as I have to pay for each call and I've tried AOL support 5 times today but each time they are more interested in selling me broadband....so I won't be able to send e-mails far faster than I can't send them now!
This is probably due to AOL enforcing their anti-spam policy.
Does it work if you use the AOL software?
I can send AOL e-mails through AOL fine but if it was anti-spam software, why does it let me receive e-mails with no problem and yet not send them?
Sue
The SMTP (~outgoing) server in your Outlook account, is that an AOL mailserver or some server of your kasiminfo.com host?
It's set as the KI.com one but I tried it using an AOL server too with no luck.
SueW
Looks like they are blocking port 25 (SMTP) in order to prevent spam relaying (your emailer connects to the smtp server through tcp/ip using port 25).
You should ask AOL tech support if that's the case.
That's what my hostcompany said but AOL say they aren't!
The strange thing is that on some settings I can send e-mail to some IPs but never to my AOL account!
Did you check if your hostcompany's mailserver is blacklisted as a spam relay? Google (http://www.google.com/search?q=spam+relay+blacklist).
Send me an email as a test.

A cookie is a file that contains your username and password for the site so that when you visit the site, it can automatically log on!
To clear them in the AOL browser, follow these instructions:
1. Open the AOL account.
2. Click on the "Settings" button on the toolbar. ("My AOL" for older
versions).
3. Select "Preferences".
4. Select the "Internet Properties (WWW)" link on the left-hand side.
(Older versions will show a "WWW" box).
5. In the middle of the Internet Options box is a section called
"Temporary Internet Files".
6. Click "Delete Files". Place a check mark in the "Delete All Offline

I seem to be clear for quite a while, then they start again, with the 'Viagra ones' etc., I mean do I need it  not unless I've changed sex anyway
Personally Dottie, I would say you have Muliple Personalities and amnesia which means you are sending them to yourself and then forgetting which makes it a problem for Auntie Sin!!!!
Failing that, it is a common trick by spammers to mask their email address behind the address they are sending them to!! They do it so you cannot block them with filters.
All I can suggest is deleting them each time!!
One point tho, do NOT ever ever ever click ont he link at the bottom of the email that says "Click here to stop getting emails" or something similar. All that does it let them know you have a valid email address and cause more problems!!
Cheers Chris - I needed reassuring :) .

Ben
To run kazaa, you must leep open a port or door that other computers can use across the internet to access Kazaa. Firewalls block this in order to prevent anyone dodging gaining access to the PC. For Kazaa, the port is number 1214. Your firewall's help file or internet site wilkl be able to tell you how to unblock that port.
hi Chris,
How do you manage to replace the url link by a shorter word or a picture without modifying the link itself?
Patricia
Hi pat,
To do thjis, you just need to type in the url ina different way:
Normally [ url ] http://www.smart.com [ / url ]
Displays the link as it is between the url tags.
e.g. http:www.smart.com
Using [ url = http://www.smart.com ] Smart Cars Rule!!! [ / url ]
will display the phrase "Smart cars rule !!!" as the link
e.g. Smart Cars Rule!!! (http://www.smart.com)
Using [ url = http://www.smart.com][ img ] http://tinyurl.com/2ehvh [ / img ] [ / url ] creates a clickable picture like this:
http://tinyurl.com/2ehvh (http://www.smart.com)
Hope this helps

I'll try and answer Heli's question, as it's the only one I have any idea on (but i'll probablly be wrong anyway  )
Your friend needs to use her e mail address.
The e mail address is needed on this kind of forum as a means of identification. It's impossable to join this kind of forum without it.It's just the way the software works.
What is the problem with her e mail addy?
Is it that it's inactive or that she just can't view it?
If it's that her e mail address in invalid, then the account conformation e mail will be bounced back to webmastermlukfc. If this happens the account is automatically deleted.
If it's that she can't access her e mail address, then the conformation e mail will still be in her in box.She would need to find a way to access the e mail to activate the account.
If she tried to register again with the same name, she would not be able to use the same name, as the account has still been created even though it hasn't been activated.
I believe it is possible to access an e mail address from another computer, but i'm afraid I haven't got a clue how it's done :? Hopefully someone with a brain will be able to give you more details soon  .
If you still have a problem send a PM to R.I'm sure he'll be able to sort it out for you

Right click and 'save image as' or 'save target as' and then upload it using ImageShack (http://imageshack.us/index.php).
You can link to there then.
Hope it helped.
Aargh  Chris, why do I keep getting a message saying 'Cannot run Installer' when I try to download the software for Shockwave?? *Knew I should have stayed with 98 instead of going with xP  *
Not sure Caz.
Try right-clicking on this and choose "Save target as....."
http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/images/download_now.gif (http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/shockwave/default/english/win95nt/10.0.1.004/Shockwave_Installer_Full.exe)
The when it has saved, try running it.
It worked fine on my XP.
Cheers Chris, will give it a try ... one delightful xP has finished it's downloads grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Thanks for the help Chris ........ finally got it sorted and can now get back to being an arcade addict :lmao:
Ok...need your help.
I've got a little picture on my computer that I would love to use as an avatar. I have no idea how to put it onto my profile because I can't remember the website I nicked it from. I'm also not sure how big it is. It was accepted as an avatar on another forum but the profile section on this one doesnt have a browse option so all my attempts have been fruitless and i have been left swearing at my pictures section.
Any help at all would be appreciated!!!!

Image Shack is your friend. Simply up-load it here.
Use an image program to cut it down to below 100x100 pixels first though.
Erm...still very stuck. Image shack isnt helping because it doesnt take 'bmp' files. It is really starting to bug me so I'm gonna give up because I have a bast*rd of a head cold and I am very short tempered at the mo.
I quit!

Help ....... anyone!!!
I have just got broadband on main pc, it is working fine at last :lmao: but for some reason it won't work on laptop. Laptop is running W98, but NOT W98SE. Someone said that this could be the reason i can't get my broadband to work on said laptop  Any ideas how i can get it up and running, so i can use laptop upstairs, when i'm being a lazy mare :lmao:
I was doing a search last night and I must have entered a "dodgy" website (I was only searching golf balls - honest!) as I now keep getting new website pages opening up, all for Spyware. I've performed a full virus scan and my computer is clear so it is just some sort of spyware campaign.
I also have an Explorer error message when I first log on that says "Explorer has caused an error in UJBUI.DLL. Explorer will now close." That box stays on the top of my desktop the whole time but it seems to work okay if I just ignore it. I searched my C drive and can't find a UJBUI.DLL file and Microsoft.com don't have any info about it.
Control, Alt and Delete has stopped working too now.
Thanks...
SueW
The DLL file you found is (i believe) a dodgy file.
What software are you using for Spyware claning, firewall etc.
Chris
I've been sent a photo in a pdf (Acrobat Reader) file format. Is there any way that I can convert it to a jpeg so I can use it on my website?

Sue...I've been able to work out PDFs by using PhotoShop. Open PhotoShop and IMPORT the PDF and you should be able to sort the image and SAVE AS a jpeg file from there. Hope that helps!

Just thought I'd let you know, our computer downloaded a weird program which placed many pornagrphic pictures on our computer, and prevented us from accessing the internet!!! we have had to take the computer back to basics, but at least we're clean :D
Neither one of us has opened anything suspicious, so haven't a clue where this has come from..
For warned is for armed, look out there is a Christmas nasty about
Okay.. funny, never noticed this one.. BTW, where is Aunty Sins page/topic???? Need that one also ahhaha.
Question:
My computer told me i got a virus. After a check with 2 different virusscans it told me there were no virusses on the computer. So.. can i trust those scans??
And another question... Any clue how i can put VHS recordings on my PC and burn them as a VCD or other format?? Got only a TV out card.
The Butcher
By the way... looking for people who can transfer cassette and VHS to CD and DVD (prefer Dutch people hahha)
Does anybody on this list know of a free ftp that I can download which will upload files in sub-directories too (keeping the directory structure)?
I want to move a large number of files to a server (I'm still on dial-up!) and I don't have the time to upload them one sub-directory at a time!
Many thanks

you need to click on User CP.
Then click on Edit Options on the left hand side of the page.
Scroll down to the bottom and just above the save changes button is the bit to change it. select "The Bat" and then click save changes.
Cheers Keab42 - sorted :D

I turned on my computer this morning and almost all my stuff was gone. Even my wallpaper disappeared. It wouldn't let me do anything and every time I hit the start key, it froze solid.
I wiped out everything and reformatted. Now it won't download the ie6 service pack. Everytime I try it tells me that not all componets were downloaded and to try running set up again.
I'm running windows ME. Any suggestions?? A Sledgehammer perhaps

ME is crap, crapper than a crap thing on a crap day. I had it for 4 years, pain in the ass it is. My advice is to sling it or upgrade to XP or something. Don't try and fix it, save yourself an headache or two and just bin it.
Pud
Threads merged.
And regarding your problem:
Upgrade to XP and stop using Internet Explorer, this crap piece of software is the root of all evil.
Use Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/) instead. It's better, faster and more secure than IE.

Thanks guys! After Christmas I will take your advice. I got it working this time but this will definately be the last time ;)
to be fair if you can last 6 months more on ME you can then upgrade to the nice shiny bugridden mess that will be windows Vista.

Ok, why when I am posting a reply to a message I can use the smilies  but when I am posting in my blog I can't. I click them and nothing happens!
Help!
Off the top of my head it sounds like you need to refresh the smilies.
Go to the blog reply box as yu normally would and instead of typing your post, press CTRL & F5 simultaneously.
That should force your PC to reload the code from scratch and should make it work.
Let me know if it doesn't work!

Hi
Happy New Year to everyone - hope you all had a good one!!!
Can anyone help?
I have been nominated to set up a web site for work (I work for a charity).
Some one has bought us our domain name as a donation but it doesn't come with any web space it is just the name. I now need to find how to buy web space. Bearing in mind that the costs need to be kept as low as possible due to lack of funding and something user friendly as I am a novice. Could someone point me in the right direction. We use ntl broadband at work - I've looked on ntl business site but can't find anything - it is different to the site for ntl homeusers. I would probably have to do most of the work at home - can you register using the computer at work and then do work on the site from home once it is up and running??
Any help will be appreciated.
Love

Help!! Please Anyone?!!!
My screen has suddenly started to jump wildly whenever my mouse is placed anywhere on my screen. So much so that its unbearable to even look because its jumping that much. However if I place my mouse on the top of the screen where the toolbar is it stops jumping. Can anyone elighten me as to what could be wrong and how to fix this?
I'm a complete computer novice!
Thanks
Leahx
its either a problem with your graphics card or you monitor.
i would hazard a guess that its something to do with the monitor rather than the graphics card.
could you place the toolbar somewhere else on the screen. then see where you have to put your cursor to make it stop jumping.
Thanks for the advice Keab.
But computers gradually getting worse. I haven't got a mouse pad at mo (old one went abit scraggy so I binned it) and maybe this has something to do with it??? I'll get a new one on saturday and wait to see if it improves.
If not its a trip to the doc's.....:(
if the screen is jumping then its nothing to do with your mouse. is it a flat screen or the other sort?
The screen I have is a flat screen. So do you think the problem lies with the monitor?.....
Thanks for your advice by the way. Its very much appreciated! :D
if it had been a CRT monitor i would have been sure that it was a problem with the monitor.
i have to admit i'm stumped.
Thanks for the advice anyway Keab. :D
I've been looking on the web to see if I can find out anything but there's a whole range of possible causes from interference through to it being the actual monitor and a zillion other things.....
Over the weekend i'm gonna check all the cables and give it a good wipe and see if that does anything

I've been trying to post a picture i have scanned using my paperport scanner but it doesn't seem to be working :( a message saying i need jpg format comes up i don't really know much about computers  can anyone tell me how to get this picture up please?
you need to save the image in jpeg file format. this should be possible using the options within the software that came with your scanner. if not then you should be able to use a graphics package to open the image and then save it as a jpeg file. a good free graphics package is GIMP.

Hi
I did an earlier post asking for help with web space but no one has responded:(
Can I ask another daft question. When using excel does anyone know how to put page numbers in the middle of the spread sheet, in the background. It doesn't print out but is really useful when you have loads of pages and only want to print one out.
Thanks

Hi guys,
I was just wondering if you knew whether i could download the file 'sku112.cab' because i really need it so i can register my version of microsoft office which i downloaded. When i input the activation product key it starts to install but then stops after a few seconds to tell me that it cannot find the 'sku112.cab' file. please help.
Office is not legally available as a download is it?
If you would like to download an office suite without wanting to pay for one, try Open Office (http://www.openoffice.org)

office was already on my computer when a bought it. I mean i downloaded the unlock code so i could get the full version activated. That, i had to pay for.
You probably deleted some of the office installation files by accident. If you have the original office media, try to uninstall and then install again. Otherwise you might have to do a comlete system restore using your recovery discs.

so, is there no way i can simply download the file that is needed? I've restored my computer before and it took me hours and hours to get it back to the way i had it. I'm trying to do anything that prevents me from resoring it.

It sounds to me like it is to do with the new file space.
