This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic. Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!!

You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth (8)

It's a beautiful romantic song. The lyrics is very good, but the music is not so good (to me). I think this song is better in concert. The best version is on the Live Around The World CD. When you are hearing this song you got a smile. It's very good if you are sad, cause you are going to be happy. I think it isn't a typical Steinman music. Not enough the power and the fire, but it's a good melody.

My score is: 8

Average: 9.31 (195.5/21) [07/08/05]

this is my favourite song of all time. not just of meat's, but ever. it holds different memories over a few years and i also just love it as a song, aside from its pesonal meanings to me. its, well, singability (yes its a word!), the jimness (!) of the lyrics and above all for me the vivid mental pictures the combination of the words and the whole wall of sound thing create.

It's a very good Rock and Roll song. It has a very simple intro, like most of Steinman's intro. Because nobody thinks simple, you can't make such a great intro. I think the best version is a version from Bat II tour. Maybe the cardiff version.

My Score: 8/9

This is one fantastic song.I love the poetry intro. The music is great, the wall of sound that starts the song is magic.Meat's voice really shines and gives some great mental images.
10/10 Soul is flying high above the ground.

When you are listening the live version of this song it's too long and there is 2 minutes silence. Why?
In "To Hell And Back" film we can see Meat was proposing to Leslie during this song. Is it the answer?

LoL guy's do you know that it was this song that got the BOOH album signed up ?? Not Bat or Paradise or 2 outta 3 but Took The Words the quote was simply the BEST intro too a rock song I have ever heard Record it!!! And I got to agree with that :)

Hmmmm I never really liked the album version, dunno why. It's the worst song on BOOH imo.

I give it a 6/10

The live versions on the otherhand will get a 8/10 from me at least.

Very funny. For me it is just the other way round. like album version most. meat doesn't like album version, the live version is much different. Ofcourse the last part of the song is live better than on the album. Todd Rundrgen doesn't like to make the songs really long, he keeps it short. In this particular song it is just a waste he didn't do it.

why? cause he is playing with the audience or something like that. Put on your headphones and pump up the volume, you will hear what he is doing. :D

What an amazing intro!!!

Is there any better?

Does anyone know where the intro comes from just out of interest, was it written by Jim especially?

Anyway, following Bat is a tough job, and You Took The Words holds it own amazingly, becoming a classic as it goes :)

Not the best on Bat, but still an all time legend, I am toying between 8 and 9.

Ok, because of the pure rock and roll of it, and the great clapping, I give it a wolfy:

9/10

However, i do have to say I dont like songs that fade out. This is the one exception!

I absolutely love this song. From the beginning intro which originated from Jim Steinman's rock musical "Neverland" to the beginning intro, the Spector wall of sound, and especially the lyrics. This song is such a simple concept but Jim makes it sound so mythical. And you can just imagine yourself on the beach right there with them. And you can't forget the tribute to Queen at the hand, the hand clapping. I love the song.

Yeah its a good song, I agree the intro is superb and lovely lyrics too. Probably the most accesible song on Bat most people would like this one.
I prefer the Live at Wembley 87 version to the LATW one. It's just a little too slow live nowadays for me.

Hi!

I really love this song, it definitely is the best rock'n'roll intro ever, it's also one of the best rock songs ever!

I love the bit where it says:

"I try to speak, but no matter what I do, I just don't seem to make any sound... Chorus...!" (Bit lazy, sorry about that!).

I think the lyrics are great, the tune is fab, production is top notch (please could we get Todd Rundgren back for Bat 3???), Meat sounds great, and the claps rock!!!

My vote is 10 / 10!

From the begining "On a hot summer night, to the fade...
Rock & Roll perfection. Beautiful imagery in the lyrics. Perfect Guitars.

This is an amazing song, how did I leave this one out? It is indeed a 10/10. I love the vocals and the music. That poem at the first is truely an amazing piece! Is it just me, or does anyone else notice that Jim starts to stress the word YES everytime, almost like he's um, uh never mind, but I seriously think it was made to be that way.

who is that girl with him at the first?

Storytellers version, is just as good.

BOOH version, 10/10

Storytellers version 9/10.

Great pop song,
The lyrics are very poetic,
I especially like:
"You hold me so close that my knees grow weak
But my soul is flying high above the ground"

Somehow that showed that geeting week knees is not just a womens thing:))

This is a favourite of mine... my brother had the 1981 EP (this track, 2/3, Deadringer and IGLHFBOU) and one day I found it and put it on. At first I thought it was awful. Then I realised it was a 45 and I was playing it at 33 RPM.

I guess you could say this was the track that got me 'into' Meat Loaf. That aside, this is a truly great rock n roll song. From the "greatest rock n roll intro ever" (wasn't that Steve Popovich said that?) to the fade out. It's a cliche but this song is five minutes of rock n roll perfection. The imagery that the lyrics conjure up are without compare.

"No-one's gonna know where you've been..."

A definite 10/10.

I used to hate the triple-tracking on the vocals, but now it reminds me of all those classic sixties songs. Watch the room errupt when this comes on. And Queen can f*ck off - this had the hand-clapping thing going on before Radio Gaga ;)
