The idea is simple: just like in the "What are you listening?" thread, you can post which CD's you've bought (today). Any thoughts about it would be nice too :)
To get things started: "Look! I got a new CD!"

Well, in fact, I got 5. I bought a complete set of Arturo Toscanini conducting the NBC Symphony Orchestra on all of Ludwig Van Beethoven's 9 Symphonies.
The last few months, I'm really starting to appreciate classical music, and Beethoven in perticular. This set is widely seen as one of the better collections, and since it was just released in a "budget version", I decided that this was a nice way to get a load of good music.
Katie Melua, Call Of The Search.
A few words about it? Awesome! Superb music to chill out and relax to, her version of Lilac Wine is beautiful!! perhaps I could get it piped onto the forum?

Beautiful Sky, from a band called "Reamonn"
Does anyone outside Germany do know them?
If not, try to get one. It's a POP album, but in a positive way (like Kasim say of himself "intelligent pop")
I saw them on a life show in january and they rocked!

They had a small hit with "Supergirl" here some years back, which is a good song. Other than that, I haven't heard anything by them.
We had a sort of Idols thing, called Starmaker, where a band was 'manufactured'. One of the songs they did on their album was "Supergirl". In the wake of that, Reamonn released it as a single.
Not today, but recently.

Yes, supergirl was there first hit here in Germany. Since then they had some more. But they still know, where they came from. At the show they behave like the nice guys next door. Some other of these "pop idols" should take that as an example

The limited edition of Iced Earth's "The Glorious Burden". Had the mp3s for a while, and musically, it kicks butt. Vocally it's okay (their singer left, and they got Tim "Ripper" Owens to replace him - I liked Matt better), but lyrically it's cringeworthy: the album is mainly focussed on wars, and the US Civil one in particular. For my Dutch state of mind, I find it overly patriotic, and too sentimental.

I cannot recommend the first enough. Truly, wonderful pop record.
Three Weeks ago, I bought the LP Dead Ringer for $6.00
http://perso.libertysurf.co.uk/lee.gregory/deadring_cd.jpg
And today, my mom and I went to the thrift store and I found 3 records and 2 cassettes
Adding up to $6.80
First one I found Nazareth Greatest Hits LP
http://www.collectable-records.ru/images/GROUPS/Nazareth/greatest_hits/front.jpg
Then I found a record full of different artists, I thought I would like it seeing how I know most of the artists Alice Cooper, Boston, so I thought I'd get it, not knowing Meat Loaf is on it! LOL Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad is the song by Meat. The record is called Winners. Made in the 70s. Also an LP they spelled his name "meatloaf" Grr
http://www.ne.jp/asahi/salaryman/asada/jwinn.gif
Then I found Bonnie Tyler's LP Faster Than The Speed Of Night
http://www.jpc.de/jpcimages/big/5366488.jpg
As for the two cassette tapes, I got Edwin McCain (the only song I heard by him is Alive) so I got it. The album is called "Honor Among Thieves"
http://surfsc.com/homegrownmusic/images/emhat.jpg
Never heard any of the songs by this band, but my supply teacher (friend) says U2 is a great band so I bought their "Rattle and Hum" cassette.

Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armaggedon
That is one sweet pile of "commercial" "black" metal. I like that one.
Yes, I agree. Latest Dimmu Borgir album combines extreme and melodic parts of black metal, that's great. I began to really like this band after their concert here in Moscow in November.
I wouldn't say it's commercial, it's too much variable music for it - I would say "succesful" :).
I first got Puratanical Euphoric Misanthropia (sp?) and was hooked!
I am getting more into black metal now, although don't know exactly where I am going.
Well, that was the same thing with me few years ago with Immortal "At the heart of winter".
About Dimmu Borgir I would recommend "Spiritual Black Dimensions" - though songs on it has more complicated structure and need even more attentive listening I like it most. It has more keayboard arrangements and wonderful clean voice.
Late 90's - 2000+ Black Metal is very fast developing genre, really taking the indie music higher. There were some great releases from Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, Limbonic Art, Emperor, Kovenant, some others.
thanks for the tips Alice :D

I got a gift certificate from the job I am leaving (last day today!) and I bought:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0001BS41A.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
(Rick Springfield's new one, Shock/Denial/Anger/Acceptance)
I just saw Rick Springfield in concert last Saturday (yes, I'm facing looming middle age by reliving my early teen years  ) and he was absolutely amazing. Sure, he's 80% bubblegum but he put everything into that concert- he even sang nearly half the show from the audience, perched on top of seats all over the auditorium.
On Tuesday night I bought:
http://www.paulthorn.com/images/125shortstreet.jpg
Paul Thorn Live at Short Street
and
http://www.paulthorn.com/images/125lovstrange.jpg
Paul Thorn: Ain't Love Strange?
I saw Paul Thorn open for Huey Lewis and the News on Tuesday night, and he completely upstaged the headliner. I'd call it acoustic redneck white trash music, I absolutely loved it. Someone more eloquent would probably call it roots music with a bluesy feel. Check him out at paulthorn.com- he impressed the heck out of me.

Cradle Of Filth - Love Craft & Witch Hearts
I got that one over here, and it's cool, in a way. I find it pretty hard to sit through that CD (either disc) in one go. There is so much cramped into the songs. The lyrics are not suited for the over-sensitive, but since you know the band already, that shouldn't suprise you.
My favorite tracks are Her Ghost In The Fog and the Iron Maiden cover Hallowed Be Thy Name, by the way.
And if all goes well, I'll be receiving my much anticipated "The Human Equation" today

also, I picked up a copy of Epica's "Cry For The Moon" single, to fill up the empty space that's reserved for that in the "Feint" single's jewelcase. Also good stuff :)

I can't believe I'm just getting around to buying this on CD, but today I got:http://i.afterdawn.com/albums/MeatLoaf_DR.jpg
Oh, and for the Morrissey fans here, my local paper (The St Petersburg<FL> Times) had a glowing article about the new CD today- it really peaked my interest. There was also an interview in Entertainment Weekly last week, my favorite bit was when he referred to Brittany Spears as "the devil". Rather correct assessment, I'd say!

That's such a cheap shot.
If you don't like someone's music, no big deal. But to be this childish about it? I don't like Ms. Spears' music at all myself, but there are people who like, obviously. Good for them.
I don't see any reason to make such a comment. It's not like "the kids" who like (and buy) Ms. Spears' music are likely to be interested in Morissey's music anyway, so who's he trying to convince? The elitist snobs who can't see past their own limited points of view?

It's called wit.
First of all you didn't see the context of the quote. Perhaps the interviewer quoted Ms. Spears insulting him, thus he used a witty retort.
He's not trying to convince anyone of anything. I'd rather him speak honestly about how he feels about the current pop music scene than just say "Well, she's got a nice nose hasn't she?". . .
It's a 'you get the joke or hate him' thing with Morrissey. . .

"If ya can't say something nice... better keep ya mouth shut" comes to mind. Reffering to Spears as "The Devil" does not add any value to the discussion about the current pop music scene. To me, it sounds like a terrible cheap shot.

Just bought this purely for the fact that it has Gee Ma, and Welcome home on it!!!
Have to disagree with Dave tho, although I really like old style country (Kenny Rodgers, Dolly, Tammy Wynette, Cash and so on) I am a big fan of the new country stars (Kenny Chesney, Martina McBride, Julia Roberts and others). Sometimes new bands can be as good as the old ones!!

bought this today
Ooooh William Shatner, I had my first crush on him in Star Trek! Can he sing though?
Love everything by David Gray - I've seen him in concert loads of times. The first was in Paris where he was little known and supported The Corrs -no one even knew who he was except me and my man who sang at the top of our voices whilst the French audience stood there almost motionless. DG actually invited us back stage afterwards as we were so obvious in our support....things have changed a bit since then for him....
