I too have noticed the inverse correlation between the nutritional value of a food and/or beverage and the pleasantness of its taste. Peculiar.

Ok, ok! My profession in the university is the geography of religions. And some days ago I was menaing about the system of religions.
What is the mode of the thinking? There are Christians, Islam, Hindu, Buddhism and Atteists. These are the biggest systems. I have to say Christians and Islam are the similar level. Why? Cause they are speaking about Genesis. If God says: "Be there Sun, be there stars" etc. What does Hindu say? At now here isn't Genesis. Here is reincarnation. At now they don't make souls and bodies. The Christians and Islam are doing souls and bodies by God.
And Atteists? This is the smallest level. Here are scientist. We want to make souls and bodies. But we can't. Genetic an biology at now can do bodies but no more. Where is the soul. Well, here is my hierarchy:
1. Hindu
2. Islam & Christian
3. Atteist
About Buddhism I don't know... It's very strange. And the nature religions are very strange too and there are lot of kind...
1. What was before the big bang, and whee did that come from, and where did that come from, and what colour was space right at the beginning?
If Stephen Hawkings and Einstein are right then before the Big bang came the Big Crunhc - Universe is expanding, eventually it will reach a point where the energy in it is so dispersed it can expand no further. At that point, many of the stellar objects will have decayed in to gravitional wells and/or black holes. Therefore gravity will be the overwhelming force within the universe and it will start collapsing matter in on itself. As the laws of entropy state that energy can be transferred but never destryed/created, then as the collapse occured all the original energies become concentrated and eventually the entire universe gets crunched down to the point where quantum forces exceed gravity, so it begins to expand again and so ad infinitum!!!
As for the colour, I think the accepted answer is purple!!! Something to do with redshift theory and the doppler effect on light emitted from stars from earlier galaxies. Would need to get my cosmology coursework out to look it up but can't be bothered!!!
2. If penguins can fly under water, can you swim in the air?
Yes if you can produce air of a density equivalent to that of water!! Suppose if could be possible if you substituted the nitrogen for another more dense gas - would need to be in a contained space tho!!!
3. Who actually came up with the idea of bog roll?
Joseph Coyetty in America in 1857. First marketed in the 1880's but the British perforated paper company. First appeared ina roll in 1907!!!
5. What was the very first programme to be shown on tv?
No idea - but the first live Outside Broadcast was King George VI's coronation in May 1937.

yeah but chris: where did those earlier galaxies that crunched together come from?

For that answer, I shall defer to the late, great Douglas Adams:
"There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened."

Yup
Just out of interest - why did you ask the questions?
I'm astounded by people who want to 'know' the universe when it's hard enough to find your way around Chinatown."

5. What was the very first programme to be shown on tv?
The general opinion is that 22nd August was the birth of tv, as this was the date the BBC aired it's first broadcast. In those days the pictures was only 30 scan lines and almost impossible to look at. It would only have been a face, and news was generally the program.
You can go further back to Baird's experimental broadcasts, but the first true programme was on that day.
Aargh .... too much like brain power for me
