A chicken and an egg are lying in bed. The chicken is leaning against the headboard smoking a cigarette with a satisfied smile on his face. The egg, looking a bit fed up, grabs the sheet, rolls over and says, "Well, I guess we finally answered THAT question."

What *exactly* does the moon have to do with the tides....this confuses me.

Chris
05 Sep 2005, 22:22
The moon causes the tides.

Basically the Earth is spinning at a relatively steady speed and the oceans are trapped by the atmosphere and gravity so basically just sit there and not do much.

However the moon is following the WEarth around like the geeky kid at schoool trying to be cool by following the popular jocks round!. Since the moon has gravity, it pulls on the Earth. The solid bits of the earth are quite happy to sit there and not move but the water thinks "aha, this could be fun, lets get pulled a bit by the bravity of the moon". So it does, and as the moon pulls it the water moves leading to tides.

And everyday the tides are at slightly different heights and times because the moon is in a different place everyday.

Q. Would it have been better to just say "because it does!!"?

Biter
06 Sep 2005, 06:27
hahahaha yes, but that explanation is very good and im no longer confused. Well....

Q: Why do shops start stocking Christmas stuff so early, Tescos has theirs in already ~ selection boxes and Christmas puds.

Chris
15 Sep 2005, 19:48
Because most people only go to the shops once a week at most which equates to only twelve visits before Xmas. But you need advent calendars before Xmas and also boxed chcoccies for presents which are swapped during december - in retail terms that is roughly 8 capture opportunities before xmas!!

Better than 9months of pregnancy

Why do woman moan about being pregnant when the man does all the running about :??:

KebLou
29 Sep 2005, 21:22
Because they have to carry another extra weight, and they normally run after the man so they think it's time they got to turn the tables by sitting and moaning about everything while someone else runs after them.

Why is it that on this team building day I went on yesterday that everyone in my group comes up to me and asks me if they are doing it right?

DIZZY DRUMMER

KebLou
29 Oct 2005, 19:07
Males start it, in all my experience it's always men that say "you can't do that your a girl" or "Women can't do that.." That's not really an answer. Men start it and women finish it, men know better than to carry it on.
