Hate BT :( We've had enough, we're leaving them. Four months of intermittent broadband, we can't be doing with it anymore, we're changing to Sky, and if BT try to charge us for breaking contract we will fight them on the beaches...
We get Torchwood over here in March.
Makes completely sense, especially because we didnt even get to see the complete first series of Doctor Who lol
I bloody hope we´ll make it till the second series of Torchwood, cos it has James Marsters in it

Thoroughly gutted by the human cost of our fires here in Victoria, Australia.
First the worst drought in history dries up the countryside, then the heatwave from hell and then a succession of fire balls (and not the yummy kind) swallows up what's left.

It's truly shocking beyond belief, especially when they think most of the fires were deliberately started.
We had the smoke haze from those fires drift over to New Zealand, turned the sky a weird yellow. Kinda puts it into perspective the size of the fires when we get the smoke from over 2,000 Km away.
Pud
Just seen the news reports about the fires in Oz, makes the stories that've been run over in the UK about a little snow and ice somewhat insignificant really.

Absolutely. We whinge about not being able to get into work, whilst people in Oz are losing their houses and in some cases their lives. I can't imagine what it's like trying to escape the inferno in a car, and getting burnt to death on the way.

I'm really feeling for the poor sods up north with their floods. Our fires have overtaken their plight and I hope they receive the full support they so deserve to get their communities back together too.
Where I live, we've only copped two or three minor grass fires and that's how I hope it remains. Next weekend is shaping up to be another bad one, with hot northerlies brewing. For once, I wish the weather guys would get it wrong. We're busily rotary hoeing all our (crunchy dead) grass around our home. Apparently, that's been the saving grace for some homes. The totally bizarre thing is, in Northern Australia they've got floods due to tropical rainstorms
I saw that on yesterday's news, it's an awful cruel touch of fate...and something of a shame the excess water from the north can't somehow easily be drained (thus also reducing flooding) and transfered to the south to be used to put out fires.
As for those responsible for starting the fires...no words can describe that...I cannot imagine why anyone would...and only hope they get their comeuppance. (as for the suggestion of fastening them to a burning tree ...I'm not sure death's a harsh enough punishment when you consider the losses of all those affected).
England (on the whole, I don't mean individuals) makes such a fuss out of any small extreme in weather, and I can only consider us fortunate that we dont suffer the extremes most other countries do.
As a Geographer (well, I was) my favourite area was 'hazards' (which includes fires and floods) and some of the impacts can be mind-numbingly horrific...yet unfortunately, the likelihood of occurence always seems to be higher in those areas where the impact will be higher, being more suitable areas for settlements. So cruel.
(and I'm done - shutting up now!)
Thoughts with those in Australia though, just a shame we can't do more.

And from cold to the the tropical... my office is within an office, so although it has windows, they don't open and only look into another office - which also has no windows (it's so healthy!)...because of this my office is always pretty warm - even in the depths of winter, it can be a happy 20 degrees C in here without having any heating on.
Fortunately or unfortunately, we have no fixed heating, only a portable heater. The lady with whom I share my office however, is always cold (yet still wears only one layer - usually a thin, but long sleeved, top), so frequently when I come in (we work different fixed hours and she starts before me), she already has the heater on. This morning when I arrived it was 25 degrees in here, yet she was still cold and I must not turn the heater off or she'll freeze. It took until the room was 28.5 degrees before she agreed it was warm enough and agreed to turn the heater off! Even now, it's only cooled down to 26 degrees!
I'm melting and my head hurts. The feeling faint, light headedness and blurred vision is beginning to subside though.

it hadn't hit me at first when they left me a message to say confirming the pre op on monday, meeting with surgeon and just to let you know you will have to pay the full amount...which is different to what i signed cause i was told pay €200 when meeting the surgeon with the remainder, €2100, to be paid on or before the day of the surgery.

 Heard a bit of bad news today
One of my semi regular clients, Jimmy at The Exelsior (I do about 10 gigs a year for him) rang me up and told me that he's getting kicked out his pub.
Apparently, he had a problem with the inland revinue, so Punch Taverns (who owns The Excelsior) told Jimmy that the IL would want to seize the lease as an asset.
However, Punch had a plan.
All Jimmy had to do was surrender the lease, then Punch would arrange a new lease to his wife.
Day saved
Unfortunatly, after giving them the lease the double crossing gits have now give the lease onto someone else, and they've told Jimmy they want him out ASAP.
He's having a leaving do this Saturday, so will have to try and get there for a beer or two if i'm not working.
Another one bites the dust :shake:

Well that was an eventful day, got a phone call yesterday from work asking me to do a 2-6 shift only when I got there, there was already Leah and Adam there, Leah asked if I was meant to be there and I said Lisa called me yesterday to come in today but as it turns out seems she made a mistake so I came home. there are so many times people have sent me things and ive not received them. they'll assume as ive not said anything that its arrived ok (and presumably that i'm just ungrateful), and if i know someone's sending something but not when they're sending it i don't like to contact them asking if they've sent it because i've not received it in case they've not sent it and feel i'm being ungrateful and nagging. see i can't win here!
on the other side, if i've sent things to people and they've not mentioned it, i don't like to ask if theyve received it for fear of appearing i'm prompting thanks.
i have an ex colleague who used to work for royal mail some time before he came to be working with me. he advised never to send anything in a package that will 'roll' (likely to be used as a football) or anything that could double up as a sword / lightsabre.
