 She's got a decent voice, and does some good songs, but I do find it puzzling why there is that much hype about her.

Saying that, I bought her live album/DVD from RAH, and for me to buy the work of an artist that's come out in the last 10 years is a bigger (and far rarer) honor than a Grammy

Amen to that Flying Mouse. I do not even listen to the radio anymore because the music that is played is horrible. Not all of it of course but you have to listen to several bad songs to get 1 good one. When I listen to anything that isn't my cd's it is Pandora.

I am a big country music fan and the stuff they play on the country radio stations, I am not sure how that is even considered country.

I also like artists and songs that have meaning behind them. The words come first and the music comes second. I think that is why I can't stand the music that is out now because there is no substance to it!

Going on my own is something that didn't really bother me all that much although it is always nicer to go with someone. I was originally going to the concert I went to in 2010 on my own but I got talking to Netty (from this site) and we decided to go together.

I paid $3.69 a gallon yesterday. Not cheap to us, we are hyperdependent on petrol. We do not have great public transport means as an option in most of the country. Long distances to and from work (cannot walk or ride a bike), spending $60 a week on gas. It all adds up. Groceries are going up again here. No increase in wages to cover the costs of living.

Re: the fuel prices. At the moment I'm paying close to £1.40 for a LITRE of diesel here in the UK. This works out at roughly £6.35 a gallon. In US terms that's 10 bucks, folks. Per gallon. So yeah, I'm with Jonty, you guys have cheap fuel! I spend over £100 a week at the fuel pumps. Public transport is not an option in my line of work either. It doesn't help when we in the UK know that over two thirds of that is tax, even though we also have to pay a road tax duty as well, which is dependent on the type/size/emissions of your car. Something has gotta give!

Hypnobabe
31 Jan 2013, 19:12
I have real trouble choosing between the two, and love both in part because the adaptations are so faithful to the original novels. There's very little left out or changed, no pointless action sequences or love interests introduced, and brilliant actors chosen - Tim Robbins is fantastic as Andy Dufresne, and Tom Hanks deserved an Oscar, in my opinion...

LucyK!
31 Jan 2013, 19:30
I think Green Mile just edges it for me, the book was amazing too. Oddly, I think I prefer Shawshank the film over the book as it was just a short story - a brilliant short story but having seen the film first I felt the book had lots missing.

So, I could possibly have Meat, Saxon and Colin Hay in the space of four frenetic weeks.

:D Yup, and I was in a very similar boat as you....so things can change and dreams can come true :) Took me switching programs twice to finally figure out I didn't belong in a University, but a two year College program, and that was good enough for me. I had people telling me that I was limiting myself - now I work at home and they have go to an office for 8 hours/day. So its about listening to your inner voice and learning about what you love, and then finding programs and tools that help you hone those skills

Yeah definitely, its about finding something you enjoy. Money will flow from there, and i wish you all the best of luck. I mean, You are very talented and a hard worker, just seeing all the sites you moderate and have designed/built, and you know that's special - most people would rather play XBox than spend time building an online community :-)

I bet my ML tickets that that's true! I've suffered a lot with bowel problems and some junk food kills me. I don't eat a lot of "junk food" but you know sometimes when you just fancy something (usually the morning after a King-family party!) if we go to McDonalds I can't entertain having a burger, and if I do I know I'll suffer. Pffff, my wife lost her job today. I've been unemployed since September and with all our savings going into last September's wedding and honeymoon we are now officially broke

I just did some calculations and apparently, after paying our monthly bills, we now have little under 40,- to spend each week on food and everything else. In reality that means that we can't afford anything at the moment (including something fancy as a concert).

We already agreed to sell the German concert tickets and I already sold my Dutch concert ticket. But, as long as I can, I'm gonna hold on to the London ticket.

My wife said that, if there is a possibility, I should at least attend one of the farewell concerts. And London has always been on my 'wish-list'. I decided to keep the most expensive option open :-)

In the end it's also the easiest ticket to sell, if I have to (2nd row seat 47). And I'm affraid it will end up to that because bills and food always comes first. But we hope one of us (or both) will manage to get a job before April ...

At least we have our health and each other :D

Ohhh that's a nightmare Adje, not exactly the start to married life you'd hoped for I'm sure, but you're right at least you have each other!

If your wife's been made redundant are you guys not entitled to claim anything from the state? I've no idea how it works but surely there's something that can help while you get yourselves sorted out?

Thanks Lucy,

We both (will) get a monthly unemployment fee from our goverment. But it will almost all go to the house and bills. The curse of a luxery life :D

I'm a bit sad as I looked very forward to the shows. But there are so many people having it worse. And we do have a lot of fun together, money or not. So I'm fairly blessed.

In the end you can't always get everything you want. If it hadn't been for the concerts I'm sure we had our eye on something else unaffordable

Your attitude is outstanding, not sure I'd be so calm and collected!

And you're right, if it's not Meat it's something else, so it may as well be Meat lol

 Sorry to hear that Adje.
Hope things turn around for you and your wife soon and that you are still able to enjoy a great show in London.

Good on you for conting your blessings, A very comendable and healthy attitude

I'm really regretting ever signing up for this Open University thing. This module is boring me to tears and I could quite happily be spending the time on something else.

Aaaw thanks guys. I've been spending the past few weeks experimenting and learning about a new system and that was the result.

I've still got a few minor tweaks and additions but it's getting there. :D

@ Jenna. What I like is how it's an up-to date Meat Loaf. A lot of my relatives still see Meat as the long haired big fella in a tuxedo with the red hanky. And I like the beautiful dark layout. Which goes with Hell In A Handbasket. Keep up the good work! :)

I wonder what the chances are on reviving the Like A Rose - Meat Loaf & Jack Black duet
to number one campaign Probably couldn't hurt. With a big tour on its way.

Well up-to-date is what I was aiming for so I'm glad you liked that. :D

Meat is so much more than that big guy who sang Bat Out of Hell with a red hanky in his hand and that it what I wanted to show.

Took the ice cream out to have a couple of spoonfuls... Nek minut, ice cream all gone.... Oops.

I don't get "nek minut" where'd it pop up from? Is it only an Aussie thing, or is it being said all around the world? It's horrible but funny when someone randomly uses it.

This is based on a true story, I really did eat all that was left of the ice cream :/ shhhhhhhhhh!

Easily done, I confess I may have been guilty of the same thing in the past... MAY have been.... Possibly...
