 Hi all.
I don't know about you,but I am sick to death of people doing covers and remixes of good songs  .
Has anybody heard the new version of Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word by Elton John? It's been released with Elton John singing with Blue and it's awful. The've taken the simplicity and emotion out,and sorry, but the lyrics yo yo just don't fit.Although I can't claim to be Elton's biggest fan,I do like a lot of his music, and that song used to be my favorite Elton song.It seems a shame that Elton feels that he has to sing with trendies so people will listen to his music, and MAYBE buy his new album.
There's also a remix of Robert Palmers hit Addicted To Love with a dance beat 8O .
Chris has already mentioned that Russel Watson has covered Is Nothing Sacred.AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Now there's real trouble in our house.Westlife have covered the Cliff Richard song Miss You Night's.Carol likes Cliff a little bit, just like i'm kinda fond of some guy called Meat Loaf  .
Is anybody else getting fed up with people taking a good song and destroying it?What is the worst cover version of a song that you have heard?
Thought this needed resurrecting:-
Michael Boulton singing A Love So Beautiful, I bet Roy Orbison is turning in his grave
but some covers can be gud AKA george micheals cover of somebody 2 love was great!!

I know that Barbara Striesand did a cover of one of Meat's songs and it was horrible. For the life of me, I can't remember what it was. I think that I blocked it out to save my sanity

In '86 Babs recorded Left In The Dark - long before Meat did. So Meat did one of Barbra's songs :)
I think it's not too bad actually - its nowhere near Jim's or Meat's version, but still - I like it.
And there are quite some good cover versions to be found:
Metallica - Astronomy (Blue Oyster Cult)
Therapy? - Diane (Husker Du)
Guns N' Roses - Live & Let Die (Paul McCartney/The Wings - don't know the original)
Nightwish - Over The Hills & Far Away (Gary Moore)
Lana Lane - Still Loving You (Scorpions)
and tons more...

Thanks for the correction evil :D
U were talking about Elton John.
I happen to like Nickelback's version of "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting" More than the original Elton John's. Altho i do like sum of Sir Elton's stuff.
looks like someones up for a wee fisticuffs tonight RSG :x
Glad I'm on your good books
What does that mean Gerry?

Mandy...yes I was thinking of Westlife there too. Some of their stuff is ok but it would be nice if theyd sing something original for once, they make everything sound the same and its starting to annoy me

Have to agree with you there  .Although BM is hardly blameless himself :? .His version of Read 'Em And Weep was utter crap 8O .
I think I'll stick my nose out and agree with you there :D
OMG,
I should never have read this thread. The memories it brings back.
Have to agree Russell Watson's cover of INS was awful. My wife could only stand a few seconds of it, dumb me I listened to the whole thing!
And just recently saw Barbra's video version of Left In The Dark, eeeek. So, I never did like her and I'm partial to Jim and Meat...but I thought it was crap! She so lacked emotion, made me wonder if she was smoking and swigging a Coke :??: to stay awake to finish!
All JMHO,
T
