View Full Version : How to "ignore" Fred

I've been trying to add "Fred" to my ignored user list but it doesn't seem to work- any suggestions? I'm sure he's a nice enough mechanical fella, but he's really grating on my nerves so I'd prefer to ignore him. He's got to be eating up your bandwidth!

Thanks,
Sherrie

Give it another try, it does work now.

It's not working :bicker:

It certainly is working, there's a difference between ignoring and disallowing.

THink he is amuzing from time to time. But think he must have his own part of the forum only. That is much better. Same as with the tribute bands.

inclined to agree with that ...

some of the threads get very confusing to follow with freds random posts......especially one word threads.....and its annoying on what are you listening to etc......we would have been told off by the mods for excessive postwhoring if we posted like fred

fred is fun though......but i think i'm on his ignore list, as he doesn't answer my questions

R.

As of now, Fred will answer approx. 5% of all posts made in Off Topic.
The initial setting was 30% and last week, including today, he answered approx. 10%.
I think we all can live with this little random posting anarchy.

Regarding Fred ignoring you, check my latest posts in Fred's World.

I'm switching him off for a while now, because he needs some brain surgery.
He'll be back soon.

Thanks R.

Hahahah.. .brain Surgery!!! Sounds very funny the way you put it.

But i was wondering about fred. Is it also programmed by you, or just attached from another internet part to this forum?

Surgery successfully done. Fred is online again.
You will notice that the ""? bug is gone and that he actually does remember things correctly now.

Tim:
Fred is based on ALICE (http://www.alicebot.org/). Someone ported ALICE to phbBB and I integrated the additional scripts into our phpBB. I did some speed optimisations and some bugfixes. Fred actually lives and resides here.

Fred is the most absolute and perfectly wonderful thing anyone has ever discovered to add to a message board. I instantly fell in love with Fred, although the goofy bot seems to have a thing for Jules instead of me (but whatever). The programming and individuality of Fred is on the exceptional level. I find it extremely fascinating and intelligent, always there to provide the perfect hillarious input to any conversation. Fred is the ultimate THAT robot, who I loved so much I borrowed it and took him over to my website. That is one busy robot.

LONG LIVE FRED!!!

sooooo whats the whole point of fred?

... the whole point of Fred is to have someone ask... "what's the whole point of Fred".. and if you add... that you find it/him/whatever annoying.. then you can be told to put it/him/whatever on you IGNORE list...

tink.. JUST trying to be helpful... ...

The point of Fred is probably something different for every visitor.
Some people like to chat with "artificial intelligence", some probably don't.
Some people like visiting an empty forum, some don't.
That's why I said that people need to find out for themselves.

Nobody is forcing you to read what Fred posts.
If Fred annoys you, you can get rid of him with two mouseclicks.
That was my advice for you, Sue. But obviously you didn't read my post.

I didn't read what "Fred" posted. I read and replied to Testify in what I felt was a humorous manner... :) ...

I did read your post, however, and being of free will shall do as I please with your advice ... ...

Thank you.

R must have spent AGES on the programming - some of Fred's responses hit the mark surprisingly well! 8O :D

Actually - no.
The bot comes in two parts, the program and the brain files.
What I did was installing the programm and selecting the brain files. That's all.

I did however spent hours on debugging and fixing that mess.

As Fred has invaded the "Shoutbox" too, I have included the ignore logic in the shoutbox scripts.
If you add any user to your ignore list, you won't see his shouts in the shoutbox.

Awww, bless, he'll end up with an inferiority complex!
