I had something called Cherished on in the background while I was working tonight. (It was a BBC play based on a true story about a woman accused of killing two of her children.) Anyway in one scene someone switched on a car radio and the musical part of Bat Out Of Hell was playing and then as the credits came up, they played Meat Loaf singing Forever Young!! Of course they spoke over it a bit but we could hear all the first verse and chorus.

I almost fell off my chair!

Hi,

Not been around for several months. Discovered husband having affair October 1st, so he left. Then found out she was one of 5 during our 4.5 year marriage. Been very depressed as I believed he loved me. Serial adulterer, liar and thief, even stealing from the 3 elderly men in my care who have lived with me for 16 years. Now in the hands of the Police.

Have not listened to Meat or to my other favourite singer, Roy Orbison.

Not seen much TV as I have not been interested until recently.

Watched "Cherished" tonight - it put my problems into perspective. I did not loose three of my babies in infancy, I was not put in prison for murders I did not commit.

What beautiful and sensitive music from Meat permeated the whole drama. Cried my eyes out through most of it.

Anybody else watch it?

Heather.

Hi Sue W,

They actually played about 5 of Meat's songs - maybe someone counted, but I remember part of a song I could not name which was Meat, also "I'd Lie For You" was played in another part. I don't recall any other song by any artist, just Meat.

Heather.

Yup, I did.

A superb drama, and what great use of Meat's music - all the way to Forever Young for the credits - brilliant.

EDIT: I didn't read the first part of your post properly - I hope everything is working out for you :)

They also played Steinman's 'The Future Just Ain't What It Used To Be' from the Pandora's Box album.

This was the point during the broadcast that I collapsed on the floor from sheer disbelief at a non-single track from a Steinman album that failed to make the top 50 on release in 1989 got played on a mainstream BBC Drama.

Love to know the story behind the playing of this song.

 Got in from work last night and Carol told me she was waiting to see the second half of a program that was on (Cherished).
She told me that they kept playing bits of Meat songs 8) .
She mentioned Bat and I'd Lie For You, but I thought they must have been a coincidence, then in one scene, Timothy Spall (who played the dad) got in the car, turned the radion on, and there was the instrumental from Bat 8O .
Couldn't believe it.Then I was completly amazed when they played Forever Young at the end :D Such a new song for Meat, certainly too new to be considered a classic to a layman, so I was very suprised (but happy) that they chose it.

Someone involved certainly seems to be a Meat fan

It occurs to me that having a new song from a recent album used in such a high profile drama, a record company would try to get it pushed out as a single to capitalize on the show.
Mercury, are you reading this?..............

Just saw the last few minutes and heard Forever Young but wow, I would love to know who was responsible for playing so many Meat tracks so we could write in and tell them how much we appreciated them and please do some more! :D

I agree that if there is some support out there it would be easier to make a case to release another single. Also Cherished would have pulled a very large audience....

Heather - so sorry to hear of your troubles - sad to say that you are definitely well rid of him and deserve so much better - but then you know that don't you? Hope you've got friends and family around you to support you xx and a BIG HUG from here :D

Thanks Pixie - have good support from my brother and sister, and my 3 sons. Its very hard to come to terms with what he's done. I was with my first husband 32 years, and can honestly say the pain is much worse with what this ~~~~~~~ has done to me, after such a short marriage. He even wants half my house (which he won't get but believes he will) that I owned since 1986! He never worked the whole time we were together and contributed nothing. It has made me very bitter and I don't think I could trust another man in a relationship.

I must be coming round a bit, as I watched "Cherished" and the music from Meat had me on the community boards (if that's the right word) for the first time since he left.

Good for you Heather. You're right, he won't get anything (speaking as an ex-barrister!) but don't judge everyone by his standards. My Mum split up with my Dad after 37 years, met another lovely man and has been married to him for 6 years and they are both now best friends with my Dad - life is strange sometimes!

You know you're on the mend when music starts meaning something to you again, and Meat is the perfect remedy!

Take care, xx
