Ours is OK - but we have just got it back from repair - so it is fine.

If I use the computers at work though - somethimes it is very slow there - times of the day may also have an effect :??:

Hope it is OK for you now Dottie

Hi FA, yes I think you hit the nail on the head there, it does appear to be an intermittent fault. :)

I know the old forum and chatroom used to slow to a halt at 11pm - due to server resets at the hosting company, not sure if the same applies now but I'm guessing it does since I've experienced the 11pm slow down this last few days.

Your ISP could be a factor - I know that Wannadoo who I use, are sometimes really slow - usually late afternoon/early evening when the number of school kids who are online avoiding homework is highest.

That's shortly after midnight around here.
Database backup is done at that time and the webserver stats are generated.
The statistics are not the problem, but the online backup causes table locking.
Locked tables deny any secondary access, so every query has to wait unil the locked table gets unlocked, ie. the back up is done.

R. ..since the forum changes..pages load so slowly, and not just late at night around 11ish..as it used to..
it is doing it now...the times when it works at a "normal" speed seem to be getting fewer and fewer.....

i can no longer enjoy the forum as i used to be able to :(

Bren - the internet itself is slow today - I am having trouble with a few sites loading slowly.

R might be able to say if it is a permanant issue here though

Actually, everything's fine from here. Server workload and response time are more than just good.

Are you on dial-up? If I find that a few sites are loading slowly then I re-dial and hopefully get a faster connection.

Broadband - but not sure what speed - but it is usually faster than this. Might be NTL :wtf:

You are connecting through a proxy server: 195.92.67.xx. (webcacheH14a.cache.pol.co.uk).
Try to disable the proxy connection in your browser's configuration.
