View Full Version : Meat Loaf at Live8!
Hi everyone - have you seen the papers today which are alleging that Meat has been turned down to perform at the Hyde Park concert? apparently as they didn't have 'enough room'.
Maybe we should get a petition together or bombard Harvey Goldsmith to get him on the bill?? ;)
what paper was that in pixie??
The Daily Mirror believe it or not Ben! :D (p.7)
sounds like madness to me!!!

Steady Ross :D (*Pixie hugs Ross to calm him down*)
It would have been a great date for him (2nd July) and if they're going to have a proper rock concert, I don't see how he can be refused in favour of some of those going, but Status Quo were refused and the organisers overwhelmed by support and have now promised to include them......

Umm, isn't Meat already playing a gig on the 2nd July? Another one with Quo in Ireland?
Yes he is.
And since he's not supposed to do a show over 1hr 45mins I very much doubt that he'd be allowed to do TWO shows in one day in different parts of the country!
Good point! Although I suppose if invited Live8 would be most artists' priority. However I'm sure Meat wouldn't want to let the Irish crowd down.... so it's probably a good thing he's not on the bill...;)

I personally feel that live8 might turn out a little disappointing anyway since there has been so little preparation time for everybody. I doubt it will have the same impact as live aid had in 85.
I'm looking at Live 8 now.in Holland on TV well , it sure doesn't have the impact as it did in...? well I still am missing the most importent man for me on the world

Ross Language mate - I'll have to sort you out
Can till you're mums not around
Thought it was a charity concert. I do believe that the more great artists will play, the better that is. It is a shame for live 8!!

Geldof and that weird guy from the Libertines were awful.
Why on earth didn't they have Meat. There's an establishemnt in this Country even at pop level - if you're not in it - youre out.
All the established acts have been pretty good so far. Meat would have been a great addition.
Personally I'm glad he's saving his voice for Harewood in God's own County of Yorkshire!

Why on earth didn't they have Meat
Because he's already doing a concert in Ireland today!!
If the concert in Ireland today is as packed out as the one on the 18th of June I'm sure the thousands of fans that turned up at the venue would be really impressed if Meat didn't show up just to do one or two songs in Hyde park!
However, it IS a shame that there won't be any kind of link up between Meat's show and the Live 8 show ie in between acts at Hyde park they could show video footage of Meat at his show that way everyones happy.
But I personally don't think that Meat not appearing on Live 8 is that big a deal. The exposure would've been nice but only doing a song or two would've been a waste of having Meat there in the first place.
Umm, I'll shut up and go now I think!

Aware of the show but an early listing at Live 8 would have allowed his performance in Ireland. U2 are in Austria after their L8 numbers.

But not only Meat has been left out.
I think it is amazing they did not try to get artists like Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Status Quo, Queen (plus plenty of great African musicians). Surely these kind of artists would fit to play at such an event much more than some of the ones that are playing there right now and only really seem to be wanting to raise awareness for themselves????
Having said that I thought Annie Lennox' "Why" was pretty damn good and up until now the only song / clip that really struck a chord with me about the magnitude of the situation in Africa.

Bruce Springsteen was asked to play but didn't want to
Bob Geldof said
"As for the Philadelphia show, Geldof is psyched that impresario Russell Simmons has signed on as a producer. And Geldof is sorry he has been unable to convince Bruce Springsteen to play.
"I wish Bruce would do it," he says. "He doesn't want to and I don't know why... . He's a lovely man. And we'll miss him."

I watched Live 8, best acts were The Who and Pink Floyd.
Pink Floyd were the greatest act there, was great seeing Rog and Dave together singing on Comfortably Numb. And also Rog dedicating Wish You Were Here was great.
Shame Meat wasn't there, he could have got the crowd going. They should have had him in place of the Dire Scissor Sisters.
Think that beatles guy was a shame! my god, he is horrible!!! And that Williams guy is just an attention addict.
Think that Madonna, Stevie Wonder, The Who, Shakira, Destiny's Child were great!!
Found it a special moment when that girl entered the podium. First you saw the girl when she almost died, and now 20 years later. Gave me goosebumps!! What a beautifull woman that was!!!
Allthought it is for a serious cause, glad that i now have seen 2 live 8 concerts. Think it is great!!!!

Please tell me you're not referring to the finale by Paul McCartney? That was again one of the better acts of the Hyde Park Show.

I have to totally agree there!! Paul was one of the best people there, he was absolutley ace!!
I adored the opening so much! Sgt Peppers is my fave Beatle album! :D

To be honest... yes i am.
What a horrible guy. He thinks he is great and very good. But he can's sing and behave normally. Thinks he is a god cause he was a beatles member... brrr.
For some people it is just better to dissappear and never come back!
Well I have no idea where you got that idea of him from!
I thought he's always been pretty modest about being a "Beatle" and I think he has a fantastic voice for his age! Of course it's not as great as it used to be but I think it's still really good!
But it's all our opinions.
Hee Tim, are you deaf? Paul was quite nice for an old man.
The Who really rocked the house. Wow, they were good!
And Mariah Carey really really sukcs. She can do everything with her voice but she sukcs all the way. What a horrible woman.

For me, the best acts were Elton John, REM, Annie Lennox (possibly cos they're the songs I know best out of everyone there), and I thought the Who were good too :-) Pink Floyd I think went on far too long and the songs weren't really exciting. Perhaps Another Brick would have broke the mould. I know a lot of people really like the music, and it was commendable that they got back together for the cause after all these years, but that was about it. Sorry if I've offended deeply any Floyd fans :(

Meat Loaf
ME too ..the most important ingrediant....

No, not deaf, just a good taste of music :p
Just kidding... don't like the Beatles, and surely don't like him. But still, do think that Live8 was an amazing musical project!! hope that it really has got the impact that Geldoff wants it to have!!

Pink Floyd songs aren't known for big bombastic songs, and I think that The Who should have followed to liven it up for the finale.

Bombastic no, big yes. Echoes weighs in at the 24 minute mark. Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 1-VI are about 15 Mins.
Someone mentioned Floyd doing Brick Pt2, that wouldnt really have fit in with the theme of Live 8 and saving Africa I don't think, plus Comfortably Numb shows just why David Gilmour is one of the greatest guitarists in the world.
Its a shame Meat wasn't there, as I said before he could have got the crowd going during his set.
I think Robbie Williams did a great job out there
The Who and Pink Floyd were fantastic!! :D
Who the heck did Madonna think she was, playing the diva and taking up their rehearsal time - someone should have put their foot down and got her off so Pink Floyd could have their well-deserved time  ;)
