Well this is depressing. . . .that's one less constant in our lives.

Rest in peace.

Your very random Whiteley sory of the day
===================================

The first time I went to the Flying Pizza restaurant in Leeds he was there. After the meal, as we were stood outside waiting for the taxi he came out with his partner and i was shoved forward to ask for his autograph.

He was extremely jovial adn pleasant and signed two autographs - one as Richard Whiteley and one as John Whiteley which was his real name. He then said "you're not a proper Tyke (yorkshire-man) are you?"

I replied I was and prepared to prove it by reciting, from heart, the Yorkshire Pledge of Alligance. He said "you can;t be, you missed a free meal. If you had asked before they cleared your pudding plates, you would have been thrown out of the restaurant. That way you could have got an autograph and a free meal!!!!!"

I found out this morning and it's put me in such a sad mood...

Richard was one of those guys on telly you thought would always be on the telly...it really hasn't sunk in yet that he's gone :(

Countdown will always be one of my fave quiz shows....god bless him.

Very sad news. He always came across as a genuinely nice guy and he will be sorely missed.

Your story gave me a chuckle Chris. You obviously haven't got pure 100 per cent Yorkshire blood coursing through your veins! :lol:
