This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic.
Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!

I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) (9)

Can and must I say anything? I think no but I try it! It is Meat's Grammy-song about love. A typical Grammy-song.
I think everybody became Meat fan from it. We are young (respect to exception) and it was our first Meat song. When Jim Steinman was writing this song he lived in the mood of "It's All Coming Back To Me Now". This era was maybe the years of sensuality and pain and state of being slighted.

"Somedays I pray for silence
Somedays I pray for soul
Somedays I just pray to the God of Sex and Drums and Rock 'n' Roll"

These lines are one of the best lines of Jim. After this album Meat Loaf said sometimes he was a "Sex-God"! Did this line inspirate him?

I want to say about mistakes what are just maybe mine. The video is fantastic, it has got an own mood but... The Beauty and the Beast story is a classical tale. I think Sex, God and Rock 'n' Roll shouldn't be here. OK! I'm a little bit conservative...
And the other mistake to me: I'm missing the orchestra so...

My score's (only): 9

Average: 9.81+ (265/27)
(Cause lots gave '+')

I can't believe you gave this song a 9!! Are you drunk? :D But ok, man, it's your meaning.

Only a rating of 10+ is right!!!

10+/10

INdeed, what can we say about this song? Think that's already done.

But it is one hell of a song. Beauty and the Beast.....great lyrics and that video clip......wow, so powerfull and beautifull!! One of the best i've ever seen!!

This song is superb on the album but live it is also very nice! I think that, actually, there are no good words to describe it!

10+/10

One of the best song I've ever heard. It was the song that made me a fan. It's Steinman at his best, and with Meat's powerfull voice it was the best comeback in history. Meat needs such a comeback again, but I don't think he will make his comeback with a non-steinman album.

My score: 9
(Garret, why I don't give a ten, I always hope that I will get a live version that is better than the best live version I have)

 What can I say?
The best selling single in 1993,from the best selling album of 1993.Spending seven weeks at number one, this is Meat's biggest success yet.
The combination of Meat Loaf & Jim Steinman, the fantasy art and feel, the magic name Bat II,yet record produces thought the album would crash and burn. Some people just never ever learn  .
The song itself is a Steinman classic.Nice long intro, mixture of ballard and rock, and an unmistakable quality in the music and lyrics.
I think the video is fantastic. The beauty and the beast story fit this song like a glove  .
Just when you think it can't get any better, you hear a live version with Patti and it blows you away all over again.
10/10 As long as the planets are turning.

is the best meaning of love - stronger than anything else. Some people may not like this song, but that is because they don't understand it (What is "that"?), but anyone who understands the song and the lyrics should think this is one of the best love songs in history

 Refering to the last post,i've lost count of the amount of times i've been asked what is that? after singing it at work. Most of the time, you tell them once and they understand. Now and again, you get people who will stand there and argue that it is the "screwing around" thing. No matter how many times you tell them, they seem to obsesivley want it to be a sexual answer.Sometimes I feel like saying if you know what it means what the hell are you asking me for  .

The greatest song ever!! I never had a favourite alltime-song before I knew this song and It would be very difficult for any artist in the next 80(then i'm 100) years i hope to live to be better than this song.

Of course I give it a 10/10!

This is the best song ever! But SCREW Magna Charta and SCREW Prefecto for f**king up this song! I really like the video as well and I also really like Beauty And The Beast(Well, some of ye might not know the Disney version) Here's a line from it: The Beast will make off with your children! He'll come after them in the night! We're not safe 'till his head is mounted on my wall! I say we KILL THE BEAST!!!!!

So and as for the character: Did I Say That is The 40s Man! The guy in this video is The Make-Up Man! And the guy in I'd Lie For You is The Madman! The Three Alter-Ego's Of Meat Loaf!

Anything For Love ~ Absolutely a BEAUTIFUL love song. I was a Meat Loaf fan from the time of 2 Outta 3 but was so thrilled when this came out. When I finally got the chance to listen to it with the headphones on and really listen to the lyrics and all I was in tears and bawling by the end of it. I think it's the one song in my life that has moved me the most. All I could think was "Wow! What it must be like to be loved like that!"

Definately a 10+++

This is the greatest most majestic love song of all time. Jim really went all out and every time I hear this song I just wish that it was me who had composed it. It's brillant in every way. And the Lorraine Crosby's surprise part at the end is so moving and gives me the chills. "Will you hose me down with holy water, if I get to hot", classic Steinman. Meat's voice sounds brillant and I truly believe that no other human being could've perfected this song in the sense that Meat did. I always believe that this is the more mature "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" and it keeps me wondering, how will Steinman top this song on "Bat 3"?

Forgot to give my score, but I think it's obvious

This is a brilliant song, and easily deserves 9 out of 10, and is easily the best song on the album (the others are all great as well).

The only thing that stops it getting 10 out of 10 is that some songs from this album have lost the teen angst type stuff from Bat 1, and become more "middle aged" (e.g. Objects In The Rearview Mirror, It Just Wont Quit). Some of them still have the original feel from Bat 1 (eg Everything Louder) and overall it is a fantastic come back...Anyway...

This is really a love song, not a lust song like the ones on Bat 1 (e.g. Paradise, All Revved Up). I guess this is because both Meat and Jim were middle aged by this time, but I would like to see a bit more Rock'n'Roll, fast paced, lusty stuff on Bat 3 (especially Dance In My Pants 8)

By the way, is it confirmed there will actually be a Bat 3? Dream Pollution is so out of date!!

Score: 9 out of 10.

Well it's gotta be the best love song I've ever heard. The woman doubts the man's sincerity all through the song. But the man's resolve can't be shaken. It's scarey, how good this is.

This is truley the ultimate love song of all time. What a comeback this album\song is. Its truely a song that will never end. The music is great and the words, and the vocals. Beautiful instrumental.

It is no doubt a 10\10. 2nd Album, I ever heard, and fell in love with it by just the first song.

I hate it shortened. 12 minutes is a perfect length. I just feel that the female singer should have been Patti Russo! imo

Such a great song!!! Great music, great vocals, great everything!! This is truly the ultimate loves song with powerful lyrics. I'm glad that Meat found someone like Patti to sing it with him on stage!! :D And I hate the little edits  --it's perfect as it appears on album!!! :D Lorraine Crosby did a great job...and Patti is the ultimate diva!
This song gets a 12/10!! I love it!!

I absolutely love this song- I have to give it a 10/10. I have to say that, though I do love the version on Bat2, my favorite is the one from Live Around the World- I guess I miss Patti's contribution when I listen to the Bat 2 version. I'm a bit embarrassed to say this....but the first time I heard it I thought "that" was some kind of perverse sexual practice (why do I hear Alexi Sayle from Young Ones as I type that phrase? :P ), but I enjoyed it much more when I finally figured out what "that" was. I love the look of exasperation on Meats face in the Storytellers DVD when he is trying to explain the song and realizes the chalkboard is written wrong!

The most beautiful, wonderful, mesmerising, majestic, outstanding, amazing song I have ever heard in my whole life. Have I missed any words out? I loved it from the start when I heard it when I was 6. It made me a fan. One wednesday night about 2 years ago, coming back from the cinema in the car with my Dad, the movie had really freaked me out for some reason. We had just pulled out of the car park when Dad put the radio on and this song (my fave of all time) came on. I was never so happy to hear that song in my entire life!!! Words cannot express just how much that song, Meat, and Jim mean to me.

This was the song that escaped Electric Light Orchestra's reunion album from 1990. There, it existed in infinite form - and was instrumental. Something happened to prevent them from making that album, so Jim recycled the melody for I'D DO ANYTHING FOR LOVE. Also, Bonnie Tyler fans will note the appearance of the title (spoken by JIM) in the third track on Tyler's Steinman-produced fifth album (Faster Than the Speed of Night). The song was my introduction to Meat Loaf, but I only ever had radio edits - before I discovered BAT 2. To this day, BAT 2 is the most phenomenal and inspirational album I've ever heard. I give the song, 10 / 10

I don't understand why people don't understand what is "that"...????

Nothing to add, that's an amazing song, except that many people do not like the CHSIB - The Last World Tour intro and outro version... and I DO LOVE IT A LOT!
Why? because you can't sing along!
you just have to listen to Meat!!! and that is great! :D

10/10

ps: sorry for those who wrote that "I'D Do Anything For Love" was the ultimate love song...
I'm still thinking that "For Crying Out Loud" IS THE ULTIMATE LOVE SONG!
ps2: If I do hear it once live... I guess I can die peacefully!

The only bad thing on the song is that it may be too often played and too well known, so that it became a song that everybody can sing and nobody really thinkīs about the song itself, the melody, the lyrics (->"what is that?")
OK, maybe a second bad point:
The radio edits that are going round the stations.
Some of the best lyrics are missing already in the original radio edit, but some stations just cut nearly everything away that itīs at the end just about 3 minutes. A shame!
That just causes more people asking for that!

The brit. awards version is the best and the album version has been overplayed:

This just got lucky cause it was:
A: Off BOOHII
B: It was his first single off it out
C: overshadowed Object's singe and Dream's single.

I truly hate this song, but I'm a kind kid.

why is it obvious.

no disrespect but you werent even 5yrs old when this was in the charts so maybe we remember things a little better

i cant speak for other countries but i was a teenager when this came out and Meat was far from cool, to say other places followed suit implies that he was a trend and he sure as hell wasnt, in fact i used to take a hell of a lot of stick for listening to him but AFL grabbed their attention and many people i knew had bought it. Just because you'renot keen on it some others are...i know alot of non-meat fans who love that song but hate everything else he has done
