I've just been listening to the Live At Wembley 1987 album and wondered what other people make of this strange live album.
I say strange cos its exactly that for a few reasons.
firstly, where is it actially recorded?? it says Live at wembley Stadium march 1987 but Im not sure if Meat has ever played Wembley stadium espeically on the Blind before I stop tour? it was more big theatres such as Newcastle/sheffield city hall and edinburgh playhouse, so surley it must be Wembley ARENA? or even Hammersmith Odeon?

Secondly, the album artwork. why are the songs listed on the back cover shortened down to 'TOOK THE WORDS' and I think on the vinyl version that was released its '2 OUT OF 3'.

Lastly, the actual content of the album. The version of 'Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad' is the best Live version I've ever heard, Meats voice on this track is amazing, very powerful and the guitar solo is superb, bob kulick rocks!
Theres also some great Blind Before I Stop tracks on there, although Execution Day would have been a great addition as it was played first on most nights of this tour.
I also have a bootleg of a show from this tour and All Revved Up With No Place To Go was performed very well with Meat telling a little 'story' in the intro, this would have been great had it been on the official live album.

To me the album seems very 'Layered' and the crowd noise sounds like its on a tape, did't Meats brother in law produce or mix the album?

I agree the sound quality is not that great (Meat's voice too low in the mix at times) and the audience noise is kind of obscure at times (fades in very rapidly after songs etc).

I love the guitar solo on two out of three also. It's a great version of the song. I actually think this years version was quite similar in parts.
Not sure why the titles are shortened, maybe it's got something to do with the fact that Meat was leaving Arista and they probably didnt care much about the exact titles or so?

I thought the shows were at Wembley arena also, don't have the album here so can't check the sleevenotes. As far as I am aware Meat Loaf has never played Wembley stadium? Maybe as part of a festival (Meltdown concert, not sure where that was).

I believe I heard Meat say in an interview he wasnt very happy about the sound quality and that had to fork out the cash himself. Probably to get out of the three album Arista deal or so.
I still think "Night of the soft Parade" would make a great live song! :D

No, Meats never played Wembley Stadium, the Live in 87 album was recorded at Wembley Arena.

The Meltdown TV concert was recorded somewhere in Germany I beleive.

He played 2 nites in a sold out Wembley Arena.
I think Live at Wembley is the best live effort on tape.
Yes, the audience is mixed badly but I think the songs are superb.
My impression about "took the words" has always been that the album would seem mostly exist of Bat out of Hell songs. So they changed the title and then it seems that only the b-side (yes back in those days there were lp's) was Bat out ouf hell.

I like that album. Great voice he had, but I don't know why they shortened the versions.

I think of live at wembley as a very good album, in fact for that quality they actually had to make a 2 parter of it (you know something like Queens live at wembley) the songs are sounding great Modern girl MALAF Paradise and of course the tearjerking version of Two out of three ain't bad

What Meat seems to have an ability to do is to rip open some songs and make them sound even better live and that's definitely true of this cd.

Masculine sounds 100 times better then the original, and he manages to up the tempo on Midnight at the lost and found making it much better.

It's a good live album, interesting to see how the structure of some of the songs has changed when you listen to Live around the world, storytellers and live with the mso.
