Can someone, if anyone, tell me why Meat decided to cover these two songs on the current tour? I was just wondering if there was a special reason why he chose "Black Betty"? I know "Whore" is Pearl's song, so I'll give him that one. It might not have been explained, but perhaps someone out here has a clue.

Same thing with "Mercury Blues" and "Forever Young". Was there a special decision made to cover these songs for CHSIB? Perhaps he had a list of songs he wanted to cover and just picked those two. I dunno, purely speculation. Any comments would be great.

Well he explains the story behind "Mercury Blues" in the Melbourne DVD Commentry and i can't remember where i heard it, but i'm sure theres an interview somewhere explaining Forever Young. Something like he had heard someone sing it (for some reason the name Susan something comes ot mind) and he was blown away. something like that!

I thought i might have read that Meat said he was doing Forever Young as a final farewell song to all his fans for the support and things they have gave him over the years, but that was only what I read/saw on something, cant remember what it was, :?

Thankfully it isnt the farewell song, we still have a rocking good album to look forward to!! :D

Don't forget that Do It! and Tear Me Down from CHSIB were also cover songs. Martha from WTTN is a cover song. Quite a few of the songs on BOOH 2 were cover tuns from Steinman's Pandoras Box project. Promised Land has been covered over and over again. Other covers that have been featured in live shows include 16 Tons, Honkey Tonk Women, Johnny B. Goode, and River Deep Mountain High.

Meat Loaf's career has been full of cover tune opportunities.

.... and let's not forget The Beatles covers Let It Be and Come Together. Meat's also covered Stand By Me, Presence Of The Lord, Blue Suede Shoes, Roll Over Beethoven, We Are Family, It's Only Rock 'n' Roll, Somebody Loves Me, Take Me Back To Sorrento and Oh, What A Beautiful Morning. Just for fun what about Tattoo'd Lady and Take Me Out To The Ball Game?!!!

Anyone want to add to the list? There must be at least a double CDs worth!

:D

And Lawyers, Guns and Money.

I had no idea Do It! was a cover.

His version of Martha is brilliant. The idea of Meat Loaf doing Tom Waits is in itself almost comical, but with such beautiful results.

Personally I love Tom Waits, I think he's a champ. Perhaps if Meat's a fan he could do some of his more recent stuff - "Starving in the Belly of a Whale" perhaps? "Who gives a good god damn!? You'll never get out alive..."

That could work quite nicely. :D

Do It! was written and recorded by Billy Rankin who also wrote Burning Down on Blind Before I Stop. Both songs are on Billy Rankin's album Shake.

Should have mentioned that Burning Down was also on Billy Rankin's album Growin' Up Too Fast which was released in 1984 ... 2 years before Meat's version on Blind Before I Stop.
