Saw 2 movies on Wednesday at the cinema (both not my choice I have to say).
First one:
The Dark is Rising.
(this is an extract what I wrote about it on IMDB:
This movie is a total joke in my opinion. From the lame story line to the absolute stealing of ideas from other movies such as "Harry Potter", "Lord of the Rings", "The Matrix" and "The Goonies". That would not be so bad had it been executed well. I couldn't find anything good about this film at all if I am being honest. Perhaps some of the special effects were okay but that is very easy to get done properly these days I think. I thought the story was bad, the music was the bad and the acting was terrible. Probably the first time I ever felt I wanted to leave the cinema during a film. I cannot understand why this movie made it to the cinema if I compare it to other ones which do not. This movie simply insults the intelligence of the viewer and that is made worse by the fact that it is more aimed to children. Absolutely awful and a waste of time.
2nd film: Rendition; VERY Good, very moving, well acted. Quality film.

20 Nov 2007, 21:56
A friend of a friend was driving a year or so ago and the drum part of a cement lorry fell off the lorry and landed on the top of her car - the cement company won't pay any damages or compensation because they say it was basically an Act of God and they couldn't have predicted it!!
I especially liked boy leaving dentist who got smooshed by the glass thingy...
How is that Act of God? I thought it was only weather-based stuff that came under that? Surely that's a case of some dumb ass not attaching it properly!
That film did make me extremely paranoid, not helped a few years ago by a group of us driving through the midlands and a ladder shooting off a work lorry into the road, totally convinced me that film could happen!

I agree completely Lucy, I think the company's liable for (at the very least) not carrying out proper safety checks to make sure there were no worn parts or whatever, but apparently that's the stance they're taking, I assume they think she won't take it to court because they're a big company and can afford the legal bills and she's a single mother and can't.... It's shocking really...

Evening Tink, and I do the same thing every time I watch Cuckoo's Nest... Have you ever read the book? Seriously weird... I'm glad they dropped a fair bit of Chief Bromden's involvement in the storyline, not sure how it would have translated onscreen, although it would have explained why he was committed rather than voluntary...

Last film we watched was The Queen, and it was very very good. I'd heard some really good reviews and some equally bad ones but we both thoroughly enjoyed it. We had imagined it to be a very one sided account of what happened during "that week" after Diana's death but it did a very good job of showing it from the points of view of Tony Blair, the Queen as a public figure and also the Queen as a parent and Grandparent. Finally Simpson's movie - could have been worse, in fact, I thought it would be much worse.
The Da Vinci Code ... in surround sound, which makes it twice as entertaining :))

If you're lucky, I'll finish it off later with the third one, Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King

Yesterday I took the plunge and bought the Special 2 disc Shake & Shimmy Edition of :heart: Hairspray :heart: and I was up till a little after six watching the extra bits and I think my highlight has to be seeing the cast in the recording studio and they had a clip of John doing his;
#Hey Tracy, Hey baby, Look at me
I'm the cutest chickie that you ever did see.#
Loved that bit though it was weird see him sing that not in costume but I still have stacks loads to get through and I also loved the deleted scenes and Tracy's number that was cut from the film is a beautiful track.
So yes love it .
... Fight Club... the film's grown on me immensely !

Vincent D'Onofrio wound up in the hospital quite a few times from over exhaustion...they had to split his part to cover needed amount of episodes, thus you are getting Chris North for half of the episodes of the season.

yes... i read that on Wikipedia (is it called) ... poor dear... but though Mike Logan's no Bobby ... i still like his character... sarcastic to the depths... but then... something happens to get to him... and you can see the angst in his eyes...
