Yeah I thought it was good, not quite the action packed film it seemed to be, but was still good...i'm sure there's a moral about the way we treat the world but it's hard to find it when hollywood spends so much money on...well just about everything.

I was extremely disappointed with The Day the Earth stood still. :-(
Problem with me is if I don't like something then I don't like it with a passion!

Saw "Yes Man". Funny as hell and perfect role for Jim Carey which somehow in my opinion sums up his wacky side but also serious heartfelt roles (Truman show / Eternal Sunshine). Definitely a good comedy and worth seeing.

i agree... it is gross Em... but what bothers me more about the remake is... in the original i had compassion for all involved in the situation... i could bond with the characters... and the ending !! ... he who has heard can never get that voice out their head... ... lol ... but the re-make... Jeff Goldblum was just so fidgety and jittering ... and then so full of himself... and i just couldn't bond ... imo... it was turned into a special effects presentation ...

have you ever seen the original Em ?

 Both The Fly and the "remake" are great films with very interesting performances.

I don't count the Goldblum movie as a remake as the events are clearly far removed from the story of the original.

I rather find the two movies to be different variations on a common theme.

Last movie I watched was Little Shop Of Horrors.
My mum and dad rented it from the video shop (remember them huh?) when I was a kid, and I wasn't impressed at all.Hey, at that age, music is girl stuff that no self respecting boy wants anything to do with. When your aim is to grow up to be a Star Wars baddie like Darth Vader, cissy sfuff is deffinatly OUT.
I don't think I got past the song Skid Row.
The movie said "Horrors" in the title, and I didn't get "Horrors", people sang at me.In my infant mind, the movie lied.

So you can see why that, although i've shelved plans of being the dominant Sith influence in the universe (or have I? :bleh: ) and now quite enjoy the musicals (I must have got older, or more cissy like  ) i've avoided Little Shop Of Horrors because of the air of disapointment that has been attatched to it.

I'm glad to say I enjoyed it, a lot.
Some cracking music, and my only real complaint was Audrey's voice while singing Suddenly Seymore.
I know she had a daft talking voice, but that could have been shelved a little bit when singing a big number.
What works for comedy effect during diolouge is just annoying during what could be a good musical scene.
It sounded to me like a good singer was held back from doing putting all her skill into making the song sound like it's supposed to sound.
'Tis a shame

Skid Row is a favorite at the moment 8)

 Which funny enough didn't happen in the book

In the book, the story is told from the viewpoint of David Drayton (spelling?) who has written down all that has happened so far.
The story ends at an old diner where the survivors have taken a short stop to rest and load up on supplies, and where Drayton writes his intention to leave the munuscript on the diner's counter.
It's up to the reader to imagine what the eventual outcome of the story is.

I have a feeling that King himself will approve of the ending the movie makers have made

RadioMaster

There's quite an interesting discussion going on on IMDB about the ending. Looks like 98% of the viewers hated this ending.

Funnily Dimension Films offered the director to nearly double his budget for the movie (from $18m to $30m) if he just scrapped that ending and used the novella version.

Jesus...what for? Did they run out of the movies to remake? I often watch very old movies and there is a treasure to be found there to remake...

Haven't seen a remake that was better than the original yet. (I have to admit that I enjoyed watching The Mummy with Brendan Fraser. It was not better but different and more funny than the original version with Karloff.) It seems as if Hollywood is running out of ideas.

I watched The Women yesterday - the original from 1939. An excellent movie and by far more entertaining than the remake.

The Gun In Betty Lou's Handbag

I accidentally found the DVD at a bargain bin in a furniture store and expected it to be as trashy as most of the other movies they offered there. But the actors did a good job and it was a good laugh except for the rather dull ending. Meat had a mini role and appeared for about one or two minutes. What a pity his appearance was that short, his facial expression was a riot. :-)

I assume it's hard to make a reasonably objective movie about a politician (or any other public person), no matter who the director is. I even believe that something like objectivity does not really exist, everything you say or do is somehow subjective. You can only be objective up to a certain extent. ;)

The last movie I saw was Hell Is For Heroes - WWII movie by Don Siegel with Steve McQueen. Pretty good.
