the day after followed by parts of riddick
Saw RKO 281 yesterday morning (the only good thing about being on sick leave - you can stay in bed on a Thursday morning and watch movies). It's an interesting film about the creation of Orson Welles' famous movie Citizen Kane and how William Randolph Hearst tried to prevent its release. The actors were very good, Liev Schreiber, Melanie Griffith, John Malkovich, James Cromwell and Roy Schneider played the main characters.
Watched The Chronicles of Riddick yesterday evening, too. Amusing. :lurk:
and Roy Schneider played the main characters.
Oops, typo, it's actually Roy Scheider.
Just watched Schultze Gets the Blues, a German tragicomedy.

Meh... it was okay, hubby's choice to watch and then he fell asleep... typical... lol...
Renee Zellweger annoyed me, and there was something about Jeremy Irons that reminded me of Die Hard, I kept expecting Bruce Willis to show up...
Bear in mind, however, that I'm not a huge fan of Westerns... Oh, and Viggo Mortensen has definitely looked more attractive...

Is it really that bad? I haven't seen that one yet but was quite disappointed by recent Woody Allen movies. I heard that there's a narrator explaining what's going on in the movie all the time. Is that the case? (The last time I had to endure a narrator was when I watched a movie by Ed Wood. :lawl:)
The last movie I saw was Pearl Harbor. Historic inaccuracies, dull "heroes", a boring story centered around a soap opera like love triangle, annoying overuse of soppy music...
(The scene in which the boys play in the plane in the barn reminded me of Meat's Objects In The Rear View Mirror video. Since the movie as well as the video were directed by the same person, I suspect that's not a coincidence.)

Actually got to see Gran Torino last night... very good, really enjoyed it, didn't end quite the way I thought it would...
Just out of interest, can anyone remember a Clint Eastwood film where he has a wife? There are a few where he's divorced, where he has a girlfriend, or where he's been married and she's died, but I can't think of any where he's got a living wife - can anyone think of one?
Can't recall any. It seems as if a wife doesn't suit the characters he predominantly represents.

Mind yourself, this is my own personal opinion...
I gave up on Woody Allen after Melinda and Melinda...I thought I've had enough...but the critics were raving about this one and I thought Woody has come back...to me it was just simply awful...
Yes, absolutely there is a narrator...and he narrates everything with a pathos that you think something important is about to happen...not so fast...it goes something like this...you see people on the screen riding bicycles...
Narrator: In the morning they went riding bicycles...
Ummm...hmmm...it's billed as a comedy but you don't even smile once during the movie...the plot is nothing but predictable...and EVERYBODY is playing Woody Allen...except for Penelope Cruz who is actually playing somebody else...I see why she has gotten nominated...she managed to remain one person who wasn't Woody Allen in this movie...although maybe it was the OTHER side of Woody Allen...
And I think Pearl Harbor is a terrible movie too...just for taste comparison...

Basically, it didn't occur to me at a time but later on I've read some reviews about that narration and I knew something bugged me about it but it was basically parts of the script read instead of filmed and/or acted...somebody actually called it "lazy filmmaking". I agree...

I actually don't expect this from an experienced director like Woody Allen. A good director lets the the pictures tell the story, narration is superflous in most cases. Sometimes it might make sense as part of the story, for example if the narration is done by one of the characters and as long as you're not exposed to it through the entire movie.
Woody Allen releases a movie per year, maybe it's about time to give up on that principle and make less but better movies instead?

I have no idea, I expected it to be better, too. John Carpenter has made some movies that are much better, e.g. Assault on Precinct 13 - very exciting. The most scary thing is the music :panic:, it has never left my brain since I saw that movie. :lawl:

 Been watching the Resedent Evil films.
Watched the 2nd one last night, and to be quite honest there were a couple of things I was miffed at.
I'm quite partial to a little brain dead (no pun intended) escapism, but this movie didn't know what it wanted to be.
It's a sort of combination of the Living Dead movies, Predator, and Escape From New York.
Starts off as a bog standard zombie flick, but then forgets all about the zombies to bring on the Nemisis.
Seems they remembered it's a zombie flick near the end of the movie, so they shoved on as many as they could.
Nemisis Vs zombie stuff would have been fun.
Or at least the two threats at the same time.
It was a little like watching half a movie, flicking the channel, watching half of the movie on the other station, then flicking back for the last scene of the first movie.
Didn't gel for me.
Then there was the part AFTER they escaped from the zombies (should I have given a spolier warning there? lol) it just went weird.
OK, so we're dealing with a film where a virus reanimates the dead and sends them on a stroll looking for munchies, and where a bloke can be mutated into a 15 foot high killing machine that is a crack shot with a gatlin gun and a rocket launcher, so weird is not all that far away, but there's got to a limit.
You can't turn the heroine into a telepathic killer who can kill some dude just by looking into a security camera, and then you don't say how, what she is, how they did it, and why they did it.
It's good to set the next movie up, but the way this was done was like "see how cool this is.Now we've run out of ideas, so we'll end this movie here and we'll be back with the next film as soon as we've figured something out".
Was the wrong thing to end the movie on IMHO.
My worst grumble was the graveyard scene.
The small band of survivors find themselves taking refuge in a graveyard, when a shit load of zombies come back from the grave and attack them.
Fine, in theory, but remember that it's the T virus that reanimates the dead, so unless someone died of the T virus they are going to stay put.
If you're going to make a film like that, you've got to stick to your own rules.
Despite the above, it was still a pretty good movie, so i'm not offput giving the 3rd film a look.

Final Destination 4?! What can they possibly put in it?!?! :?
according to IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1144884/) it's gonna be set at a racing car event this time. Which is a little strange as it conflicts the ending of FD3 in the subway... Also this one is gonna be filmed in 3D.
btw, last movie i saw was urban legend. Good idea but poorly adapted. Wouldve like to see more scenes with Robert Englund, too...
I'll never go back to the race track ever again!!!
Last movie we saw was The Break Up...poor Jennifer Aniston, most people have a couple of photos to remind them of an ex, she has her career!

I saw the 'unrated' edition, and kinda wished I'd watched the other version first, as there's loads of silly extra bits just chucked in for no reason, including overdubs on some of the dialogue which don't make sense. Although to be fair, at the start of the DVD the creators come on and say you're prob best off watching the regular version first

Sex And The City The Movie - Extended Cut
I absolutely loved it, I've been a fan of the TV show for years and though there had been talks and then things happening to prevent the movie going ahead this was long overdue, it was funny, sad and amazing. And I think the plot was really good and it was nice seeing the girls back together again and all the characters that you had grown to love over the series.
All in all a fantastic movie .

There is one very pointless scene in the movie which involved Patrick falling down a hole into a lake with the grate closing in on him and at the last minute he gets the wheel thing to turn before being crushed... Don't get that bit, think they ran out of things to do  !! Though many have said that the sword fighting in the cemetry is also pointless but that has more of a point than the falling down a hole and nearly drowning and getting crushed  !!

One of his better movies, though if I am honest I am not keen on his character, Vince Everett in this as he's rude and inconsiderate but boy he's gorgeous as hell lol Anyway it's a great movie with fab songs and a brilliant story line.
There is a tragedy linked to this film however, a new actress, Judy Tyler was to make it big time with her role as Peggy but sadly shortly after the film finished her and her husband died in a car crash so didn't get to see the finished film. Elvis and Judy had grown close over filming but she wasn't intersted romantically as she was married but they became close friends and it's said that her death affected him deeply and as a result he didn't attend the film's premiere and neither did he watch Jailhouse Rock after either.
