Two very bad horror movies:

Night Train to Terror

Lousy special effects, annoying music video scenes (you know what the 1980s were like - and they did the same song again and again), weird mix of several plots, I'm still trying to figure out what the hell was going on. At least there was a funny moment when a guy who looked like a Jimi Hendrix impersonator released an extraordinarily ugly insect from a preservation jar. I think it was supposed to be a giant wasp. It looked as if it had been made out of clay and had light bulbs for eyes. :lawl:

Maniac

Now this is probably one of the worst movies ever made. The acting of the cats was better than that of the humans. But nutty scientists are always entertaining, no matter how bad the movie is and it was interesting to see bare boobs in a film from 1934.

The Ninth Gate is not a fave of mine but for me Johnny Depp would make a film about paint drying interesting ... ;) ... the subject matter did make me curious enough to go to IMDB.com and ask what the heck the film was about... one poster sent me a zip of information i print out and started to read... a bit deep ... but you know what ? ... i'm reminded now... and perhaps i'll delve back into it... ta !

THink this is the best of the three Lecter films i've seen.

RadioMaster
10 Jun 2010, 00:08
Well, in my memory it was just disgusting. Think I watched it at 12 or 13 years old, and I would have never expected something like that brain scene. Now being older, and seeing the context, I dont know if it is the best of the series, but it's definitely up there with SOTL.

Only one in the series I thought was bad was Hannibal Rising. Have yet to see Manhunter, the original Red Dragon, starring Brian Cox as Hannibal.

PanicLord
10 Jun 2010, 00:13
SOTL is absolutely amazing. I really liked Hannibal while he was in Italy, but it went a bit downhill when he got to USA imho. Stupid killer pigs. Manhunter is for me closer to the spirit of SOTL, Red Dragon is closer to Hannibal, but actually I think both are very good. Hannibal Rising I thought was appalling. A blatant cash in, predictable, with few original ideas, that doesn't cover the bit I find fascinating - who Lecter kills while practising as a psychiatrist, and how he gets caught. Of course - leave that out, you can make another cash in film and book!

Oh, and looking forward to Scream 4. If it's like 1 or 2, should be a cracker. Funny and scary - the perfect horror spoofs. I just hope it doesn't lead to Scary Movie 5. One of them was definitely enough.

RadioMaster

A good idea for scream 4 would be to focus on the numerous horror remakes lately. 1 was about horror in general, 2 was about sequels, 3 about trilogies. If they pick up on that this could become quite fun!

When Ed Norton cathes him.
I would of liked to have seen more of the story from before he was caught though.

I liked the way Dragon started at that meal for the opera folk as it references what he tells Clarice in SOTL when he first meets her.

I just hope it doesn't lead to Scary Movie 5. One of them was definitely enough.

finally got around to watch Manhunter

gotta say I was quite disappointed. Not only did it lack tension or suspense, there was hardly any character development. The whole thing seemed very incoherent to me. Like they took the book, thought what scenes they needed to film to tell the story, wrapped the whole thing with an 80s soundtrack and published it....

Red Dragon is A LOT better, not just because of Hopkins as Hannibal
(In this one, hannibal wasnt even a cannibal, he was a college girl stalker :wtf:)

When I was about 17 or 18, my ex-husband found out I'd never seen any of the Nightmare films, so he got them all out of the video shop and made me stay up all night watching them all, one after the other.... The following morning he styled his friend's hair using a vacuum cleaner...

Have yet to see Manhunter, the original Red Dragon, starring Brian Cox as Hannibal.

I realise you've already seen it now, but if I'd seen this earlier, I'd have told you not to bother if you're only watching it for Brian Cox, I think he got about five minutes total screen time.... It was interesting to see Gil Grissom as Will Graham tho'....

The reviews of the picture and sound quality were actually quite harsh...though I fail to see why. I mean, not every movie can measure up to avatar, especially when it's ten years old.

I dont think it has to btw, the quality is far superior to the DVD. If it had been any better I would've wondered about the quality all the time, instead of enjoying the movie.

Apparently Universal is re-releasing the movie later this year, newly mastered from the original reels, to conicide with the blu ray release of Robin Hood.

As Tink says, what is a fan to do.

An actor that appeared in a few films I like (Amadeus, Ferris Beuller, Beetlejuice, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Howard THe Duck, Devil's Advocate, Without A Clue, Who's Harry Crumb) is Jeffrey Jones, and I was very disapointed when I heard about the indecent pictures of a minor case.
Same as the Polanski case.

You can still watch their work, but you still feel disgust and disapointment whenever they appear on screen.

I remember when Gary Glitter got nabbed, and there was a great outpouring by his fans where they all gathered to burn their records and memerobillia.
I honestly can't say I blame them.

The premise for Flightplan was pretty good and it did start realyl strongly, sadly the latter half of the film was packed with some major plot flaws and unrealistic scenarios. I know films are supposed to be a little bit of fantasy, but in this case the fantasy was so far removed from reality it spoiled the film.

Shrek 4 in 3D. Ok. 3D gave me a headache. I find Shrek mildly entertaining rather than actually funny, but passed the time amusingly enough I guess.

Yes I like that bit too, but critics in the UK slate it.

Anyhow, seen the following this weekend:

Edge of Darkness (DVD) - very good - Mel Gibson is BACK! Film is a bit weird and doesn't quite involve you enough, but Mel is awesome and it's worth watching for him alone.

Twilight Eclipse (Cinema) - not bad, much better than New Moon. However, now I am a True Blood fan, this doesn't look like proper vampires to me ;)

Inception.
Probably the most overrated movie I've seen in a long time.
It was ok, but The Matrix is better and has a much more plausible and satisfying story line in my opinion and MUCH more character development which is seriously lacking here. There are other films you can easily see where it is borrowing ideas from and they have seriously been overlooked and I personally wouldn't say they were any better or worse than Nolan's effort: "Existenz", "Open your Eyes"/"Vanilla Sky" and perhaps even "What Dreams May Come".

9.1 on IMDB apparently ranks this movie higher than classics such as Schindler's List, Pulp Fiction and Goodfellas and rates it the same as Shawshank Redemption. I think that's an insult to cinema to be honest. Any joker could have "dreamt up" this movie in my opinion. It doesn't have anything specificially creative that I haven't seen before or hasn't been done better. It does appear to have a reasonably "good heart" and I can see it has been put together with a lot of enthusiasm and Dicaprio is pretty good so kudos for that. I would rate it somewhere around the 7 mark, which I think is beyond fair in amongst serious Oscar contenders such as Toy Story 3.

yep, it is. Typical hollywood action remake. Though why hollywood is so hot on Sam Worthington is beyond me. Have yet to see one single movie with him doing a good acting job.

Thanks, I gotta check it out. :-)

Watched How I Won the War last night. One of those movies of which I don't know whether to like or dislike them. Some parts of it are brilliant, some are dull.

i think they believe that can turn him into a russell crowe without the acting ability and that if they show enough topless shots of him it'll be enough to satisfy the ladies.

Erin Brockovich, have watched this a gazillion times and never tire of it. I think it is the best movie Julia Roberts has ever made ! Albert Finney was superb as well, the casting for those two was perfect.
" Thats all you got lady two wrong feet and fu cking ugly shoes " that is an absolute classic line !

Inglorious Basterds, disappointed, far too slow and boring dialogue at times, not one of Tarantino's best imo.

Just finished watching What Lies Beneath with Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford, it's very good but jumpy in parts.

Knight and Day
At the cinema. Pretty damn good. Much better than I was expecting from Tom Cruise. It's quite ridiculous and fun but Cruise doesn't take himself too serious which is good. Cameron Diaz looks pretty good and has a very fit body. She especially looked lovely in the black coat and with her long blonde hair during the scene where she is spying on Cruise.

In search of Paradise....
Meh, second time I've watched this. It's intriguing indeed and almost unbearable to watch when Meat preps for his shows, it makes me sad. I would rather have seen the backstage stuff from the European shows as I think it may have been more diverse and also some more comments from fans would have been interesting. Could have been a lot longer and more in depth but I guess the film crew only got so much time with Meat and the band on the road and Meat often seemed uncomfortable with the camera crew being there. Still it's an interesting background story to one of his more tougher times on the road.

Dire Straits - Alchemy Live
On Blu Ray. Crap video but outstanding audio quality. Have listened to the live cd many times but it was certainly interesting to watch the whole thing now too. They don't make music like that anymore. Ashame Mark Knopfler stopped with the band and went into more folk and country stuff. The straits music including the 14 minute Tunnel of Love was truly epic and timeless in my opinion.

Terminator Salvation, had the dvd since Christmas and finally watched it last night, i thought it was fantastic ! Love the special effects, and i love Christian Bale, all in all a very good film imo.
Although Christian Bales best movie is one that i think he should have got an Oscar for , that was The Machinist.

No not all. Was that in the promo? I think I only laughed a few times. The hardest when Kasim said Dennis Quaid was going to rip the :shit: out of Randy's Gibson guitar (they are notorious for being expensive).

I couldn't watch, saw a part a few years ago. Had to switch it off when they were supposedly "moving" a whole building in Amsterdam just so they could shoot someone from a window. What a load of nonsense and a waste of good actors.

The best part is probably the scenes in the middle where Bruce Willis makes his cameo appearance. Other than that it's escapist fantasy in the the same vein as any film of this genre ... leave reality at the door.

I remember Meat saying it in about every interview. IMO it's more tragic than funny, and if you go at it with the wrong expectations you'd be even more shocked...
Mind you though, I havent watched it again since I bought the 3 Bats DVD.

I did too, but from what I can gather, the critics HATED it. It even got re-edited and renamed for release in the US

Slow is not the word, shite all happened, waited you know like you do, thinking its gonna get better. It only got better when the credits came up on the screen !
