View Full Version : what was the last movie you saw?
Slow Burn - not bad at all...although I've figured it out despite the twists and turns...
Pnemonition...utter crap in my opinion...you know mystery/suspense movie ain't so good when the running time is 1-1/2 hours and you fell like you've been watching this movie for the last 10 or so hours...
Oh really? We absolutely loved Premonition...obviously Sandra Bullock is a bonus but I loved the story
Oh really? We absolutely loved Premonition...obviously Sandra Bullock is a bonus but I loved the story
Well...the time travel has been done...and didn't like the ending...and not just because she is actually a cause of her husband's death...which was hard to take...her being pregnant didn't add anything...she already had two children...and the story just wasn't moving for us...
Sorry for any spoilers...
But I do love Sandra Bullock...I liked The Lake House much much better...
Not to mention Butterfly Effect...
Oh don't even start me on The Lake House :bicker:
Oh no ... I can feel another explanation of the space and time contimuum coming on :lmao:
The Lake House and Premonition ... both great films. And both greater films than the Pleasure Drivers ;-)
My first nativity is a greater film than the Pleasure Drivers, sorry Meat
Oh don't even start me on The Lake House :bicker:
Didn't like that one? I am a sap for romance and I like both Keanu and Sandra...
Haven't seen Pleasure Drivers...didn't seem like a movie for me...Meat or no Meat...
I honestly think everyone should watch The Pleasure Drivers once ... why should we be the only ones who suffer?
Well, I watched Titanic and Moulen Rouge if it makes you feel better...actually...I fell asleep during Titanic and walked out on Moulen Rouge...so not sure it counts...

its on my list.
I think the first one has a great atmosphere, while the second one has more of a real story, than just killing everybody on the list.
I saw FD 2 at the cinema and then saw FD 1 afterwards, the second one is much better, like you say much more of a story going on with more to think about...I guess the third one is a bit of both, the story continues but they had to find new ways to shock the audience with how the people die, very graphic!

It's actually a bit like the SAW series, they always try to increase the gore factor instead of coming up with a good story or new ideas. (just assuming, as i havent seen FD 3 yet)

classic?... who knows... what makes a classic?... i like some of the lines... and have seen it so many times can quote several... i enjoy the coming together of the three main characters... the Chief... Hooper... and Quint ... three different walks of life... three totally different types... all coming together with one purpose... the shark is sort of Quint's Moby Dick eventually... the Chief... i have a fondness for... quite frankly so i enjoy the character... also... ticks me the hell off... that the mayor would allow the beach to stay open at the expense of human lives... i know... for economic reasons... perhaps if i were in the same boat... no pun intended ... having to survive due to tourism i'd feel the same ?... but it was really quite wrong... but then... if he'd closed the beach.... there wouldn't have been a film hunh?... lol...
anyroad... sorry you don't like it... and glad for me i do... ;) ...
take care...

oh... last film watched still... hehehe... Jaws... goooOOOO SHARK !!! ... ...

And dont forget that Jaws was as good as it got at the time and it was considered very scary!! Jaws 3 was shown in some cinemas as 3D thats why some of the bits seem a bit odd!! Jaws 4 was abit much tho but there again it does have Michael Caine in it!!
... still Jaws... and ... hang me... lol... i'm a fan of the final one as well... at least i HOPE it's the final... i'm a fan of Michael Caine... and i liked the spunk of Ellen Brody to go out and get the "S-O-B" that took her family members away... and threatened others... errr... meaning the shark... not Michael Caine... :lmao: ...
I love all the Jaws films but 2 is my favourite!!

Actually I think it's one of Spielberg's finest and one of the best films ever made. Maybe you think the shark looks fake but besides that there's some really good acting in the movie by Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss. The editing in my opinion was phenominal for its time and the story is pretty good too. Plus the simple music motif really put shivers down people's spine at the time. This was pretty much the first blockbuster of modern day cinema. Without Jaws I don't think Movies today would be the same. To not call it a classic is probably as bad as not calling Bat out of Hell a classic! ;-)
... still Jaws for me... and we're in accord about the three actors... they were very believable in their roles ! ... as for Jaws 2 ... i don't know... i think the only saving grace for me there was that Chief Brody was still on the scene... and Jaws 3... i think i saw about half of that one and bailed... imo... ... i think it was made just for the money... and when i see it said it was in theaters to be seen with 3-D glasses ?... a gimmick... i kind of think i'm right about my only put out there for the money thought... as for the last one... i think somebody wanted to bring closure... and make money... lol.. but i found it more entertaining than the second and third... so the first and last are my faves... with the first... lol... as many times as i've seen it?.. i STILL jump at that one scene.. where Hooper's in the cage and sharkie swims by?... but then suddenly comes out of nowhere and bumps the cage?... i jump and get the nervous giggles everytime... lol ...

Hannibal Rising and it wasn't good
It generally wasn't worthy of being connected to the Anthony Hopkins trilogy but what I found really confusing was the acting. The film opens during World War 2 so there's British, German, Russian and French characters, but the actors have (in my opinion) done such a crap job with the accents that it's impossible to a)understand the speech and b)follow who's who

From what I remember of one of the books, he is supposed to be somewhere from Latvia or something...at least that's what I thought...but accents besides British probably sounded all the same...
General guildelines:
1. If it's HARD rolling "R" - it's Russian
2. "R" isn't pronounced right at all...could go either way...German or French...
The French, the Russians and the Germans in the film all had British accents, the one Japanese woman had an American accent. And I'm sure the Wolves were howling in Welsh!!

luckily enough sean has never been accused of that
It was just awful, they either needed to get actors of the appropriate nationalities or not bother, you could pick up a good three accents per sentence throughout

Even if Russian accents sounds right in some movies...Russian parts for some reason are played by Pollacks and the accent is quite different...and when Pollacks speak Russian I roll on the floor laughing while everybody else is impressed with the authenticity of the language...
The best Russian by foreign actor?
Believe it or not...the prize goes to Matt Damon...
I like it how only "R" for some reason figures in this or that accent...as if it was the only letter in the alphabet...and I LOVE Russian hard rolling "RRRRRRRRRRRRR"...since I myself can hardly even pronounce it...

you think THAT's funny?
Everytime a German appears in a movie (and they have understanding problems), in the German synchronisation they're sudenly either Dutch or Danish.
And if somebody 'pretends' to talk German its mostly some gibberish with a fake accent, or it sounds like the text was translated with google translation. lol

a recent movie where they did a really good job was the da vinci code.
Hired actors of the different nationalities, and half the movie they spoke in their native language, with subtitles.
Even if that makes it a littler harder to follow the storyline, at least the movie's credible this way.

4. She was the only one who actully ever had that name and it wasn't her own anyway...
If they bothered to stop one Russian on the street and ask them their opinion about using this last name...they would have received the same answer as above...i.e. do NOT use it...especially for a male...

Was very disappointed with that one. Read the book at first a few years ago and it took a while till I saw the movie, but they took all the interesting parts out. All the parts that make you think were edited out and it became nothing but another boring sci fi movie.

True... but it's better than Julianne Moore's attempt to do Jodie Foster's Clarice Starling accent in Hannibal... Which incidentally was the last one for me...

Okay, I won't spoil it, except to say the special effects with Krendler (Ray Liotta) at the end are superb...
Yeah I know, I've seen it a couple of times before :))
Has Hannibal been on TV? I can't think why I've only seen some of it, and I mean that genuinely, I'm not pretending to have not fallen asleep during the DVD! :p
Does it have a really bad accent? :?
You did fall asleep through the DVD, and all the extras and the re-run of the fil on the DVD with the directors commentary playing, you only woke up when I opened the Dairy Milk bar!
Ha bloody ha...that is not true! I seem to remember seeing it years ago, I wonder if it was a promotional thing or a preview I saw because I certainly don't know the ending
I won't argue, but it is ... we've watched it in the last 12 months :p

Hello Dave.... League of gentlemen started off funny but progressively got worse  Now it's just the same as Little Britian lol
I truly detest The League Of Gentlemen...I'd rather never watch TV again than watch a minute of that.
Thoroughly enjoyed Hannibal, definitely hadn't seen it before and it was a lot better than expected, though Clarice's accent was really annoying...very difficult to go along with the idea that it's the same person from Silence Of The Lambs
