This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic.
Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!!
I'd Lie For You (And That's The Truth) (8)
So hard! I hate this song but I know it's good. I think Diane Warren copied I'd Do Anything For Love. Why say it?
Try to show it for a woman/man who has never heard I'd Lie For You and she/he will say it's I'd Do Anything For Love! It's sure! I know that our ears hear differently. Well, I think it's copy.
And when you ask this woman or man she or he will say is good. Maybe good. Yes! It's good but I hate!
My score: 8
Average: 8.56 (145.5/17)
First I want to say that it isn't a clone of I'd Do Anything For Love, because nobody can clone Jim's music!
Amazing duet, especially live! Great solo in the middle of the song!
My score: 8

This forum is fulla crazy guys!! I can't believe, that there are people, who rate this song with an 8!! That's shocking and horrible!! Are ya drunk, or what?? I'm very angry!! How could you do this?? So, I hope this is clear enough to tell you, what you've done! Man, I can't get it in my mind, how you can give it an 8! "I'd Lie For You" is so..., so..., I don't have any words for it! Shortly, it's FANTASTIC!!! And Diane Warren is a great composer!
10+/10

Garret, I've explained why I don't give high grades! Better read opther subjects! I don't want to explain things a thousand times!
And everybody has his own opinion!
I know also people who tell that they won't be a fan anymore, because the album delayed!
Just respect other opinions and please don't tell me I'm drunk or something!

 Fantastic duet.
Very powerful. Not to be too gross, but I remember, when I was learning to sing this song,I would often want to be physically sick in the instrumental 8O .
This song got to number 2 in the British charts, but it deserved so much to get to number 1  .
The song that beat it to the top spot was Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio. Is there no justice  .
The other two songs to hit No. 1 while "I'd Lie For You" was in the charts were...
I Believe/Up On The Roof - Robson & Jerome
Earth Song - Michael Jackson
The lyrics, and the whole feel of the song are amazing. It is easy to compare it to Anything For Love, because they are both duets, they both start slowly before going into a heavier style and both feature the word "I'd" a lot. However,I don't think it's fair to call it a "clone".For all it's simalaraties,it is a very different sound.
9/10 And that's the truth.

8) Well what more can I say? It grew into a big song with a big video and you can try and tear it down. This probably is the best Non-Steinman song second only to CHSIB as users are starting to say.
Here's the rating: 10+/10

Aaaaah my absolute all-time favourite!!!!! 11/10!!!! :D :D :D
I HATE this song. It should've been called "How To Copy Anything For Love Without Even Trying At All". Not only is it a copy of "Anything For Love" but also the lyrics are just stupid. As Jim Steinman as clearly pointed out before "I'd lie for you" big deal, that really says much. Now if they had spelled lie lye, "I'd Lye For You" that would've been good. Awful song.
0/10
it is not a ripp off. it's a total different song. it is not right if you say so. it has nothing in common with JS. the chorus is great and the vocals are great too.
8/10
i mean 10/10. i like it very very very much. it makes me really happy. :D

I don't think Diane Warren copied Anything for Love - she copied REO Speedwagon's Keep on Loving You. The tune is very similar.
And Evan, I don't really understand your comment that it should be called I'd Lye For You. There's no word spelt "lye" in the Queen's English. As you're in Florida I guess it must be an Americanism. Are you saying you think the song should be referring to lie down rather than than tell a lie?
Maybe I've misunderstood what you're saying, but I think that would just be silly. The title is actually very clever, with the juxtaposing of the contradictory words "lie" and "truth".

I've got an artice here in which Meat states that he [is not] too sure that I'd Lie For You (And That's The Truth) isn't a Steinman-title. He didn't get credit for it, but he has had several meetings with Diane Warren while she was writing that song.
I'd don't believe this actually, but in the same article he also states that it "propably has influences" from Anything For Love and 2/3. So if even Meat sees that ILFY is in the same style as Anything For Love and 2/3... I'd like to know why you think it isn't.
There's no word spelt "lye" in the Queen's English.
Sorry, you're right, lye isn't a word, it's actually originally a strong, alkaline solution obtained by leaching wood ashes. Lye is used in cleaning and in making soap.
I was referring to song being about lying down on a bed, making it humerous.
As for this being a Steinman title, Jimmy has joked about how awful he thinks the title is. If he did come up with it he was probably just joking.
Copy of this, copy of that. IT'S NOT A COPY OF ANYTHING. It's I'd Lie For You And That's the truth and it's a great song, full stop. People say the same about CHSIB and it being familiar to Anything for love. Each song is it's own.10/10 :D
I don't think the title is that clever. More like pseudo-clever in the typival Warren-way. I'm not a big fan of hers and I think this is clearly her best song with Meat Loaf. A nice song, really.
If it just had been written before Anything for Love. I can't understand the people claiming there's nothing similar. Listen to the piano intro of the song. Duh. There are many people around who have never heard the song and when they are played the intro they assume it's Anything for love. I've tried...
I can't find any message in the lyrics, either. There are one or two lines i like, however.
About folks claiming that CHSIB is a clone of Anything for love: I don't agree. It's a copy of I'd lie for you. Compare the parts "I'd lie for you and that's the truth" and "I couldn't have said it better myself". Well, how close can it get.
Still, I'll give I'd lie for you 7/10 which I think is quite good.

Good song, not Great, but ok.

I think this is a good song in it's own right!
It is a powerful song with beautiful lyrics:
Your every wish will be a wish that I will make come true and if you want the moon I swear I'll bring it down for you.............and You will never see a day I'll ever break your heart, you'll see the sky fall down before it ever gets that far......
It's a good song that makes me feel good!

10+\10 straight up, no doubt, I love this song (and thats the truth)
have you ever seen the live version music video, i have it, & i have to say I love it. My friend (who sort of likes meat loaf) downloaded it for me through kazaa, (only place to get it?) and this part here is my favourite.
oh and one other thing, its not a clone of anything for love, but when i first heard of it, anything for love did come to my mind first, before i thought this is beautiful song. second later , i realized its wonderful song. as for my favourite part in this live video goes like this
At the Part, where Patti says and you will never see a day I'll ever break your heart ( as she is saying this line and ones after meat is walking around her mouth open wide getting ready to sing along with her. Then meat starts sing in with her "heaven every second that you're in my arm! baby i'm crazy but i'm crazy about yooooou!!!!! then Meat and Patti face drums, out of the way, as the amazing guitar solo is being played, as the man doing solo, is in back middle stage, (back is really close to audience, so i'm told) this lasts for a minute or more. then he steps back, and meat and patti, start doing the chorus, they end the chourus lights go dark. keeping in mind this sounds better different then album, & meat says i'd walk across the fire for you, in a talking meaning ful way and patti says i'd move mountains if you want me to. as she says want me to meat standing starts to crouch down says OH! and raises mic in air as crouching then brings it down to where he is crouching, and very deep, and super very strong, meat sings "i'd walk across the (he sings out loud a very long WIRE, then "for you" calmly in middle of his delievery patti sings do anything you ask me too. Then both say I'd Lie For You, & humerously, Meat says, HA! and finish (& that's the truth) and finish the 50 seconds left of the song. my favourite part of this live version of the song. I know long description, but that is the best way to describe that scene. :D

This song is bull and so is the rest of the album.
0/10.
I can't comment on the album as I haven't got that album, but I do love this song, in fact its one of the ones I always skip over and forget about but when I remember it I love listening to it, I love the opening, its is a song which if listened to often can be boring and irritating, 7/10

Keb, you have 666 posts. Are you the devil?
I had 666 posts, and I can be a little devil but right now I'm not.
Anyway I still think its a brilliant.
:) Meat Loafs vocals, power and emotion make this a great song.10 out of 10 for me. Whoever says zero is immune to this and thats their loss. :(

Nearly everything that you can read about that song is that Meat was trying to copy his AFL sucess with a nearly similar sounding song.
Itīs not bad, but for my taste itīs missing something like a clue.
Itīs just the old story a man loves a woman - ... - end.
No difficulties or shyness or broken hearts that would make the song intesting.
But the pathos is given...

I don't think this sounds like AFL. It's a good song. but I don't know what it is about DW... she's not really what i want to hear Meat do... MMMMmmmm.

When I first heard it, it sounded very much like AFL. So... I dismissed it. Now though I love it.

I've just finished reading Gary Barlow's biography My Take in which he talks about working with Diane Warren. Gary says Diane told him that every song she wrote was about her late dad so they're not traditional love songs as such, but about a daughter's love for her lost dad. Certainly puts a different slant on ILFY. Not sure how it applies to COM though.

In my opinion, this song is better when performed on stage with Patti than their original duet on the album.
And I don't forget the video clip either, conceived as a little movie.

A pale imitation of 'Anything For Love'. I programme out 'I'd Lie For You' and 'If This Is The Last Kiss' whenever I listen to 'Welcome To The Neighbourhood' (which then becomes a superb album!).
'Not A Dry Eye In The House' should have been the lead single - with the aforementioned other tracks as B-sides.
There are some good solid live versions of 'I'd Lie For You' out there - the best one being from Melbourne, where Loaf drops the unnecessary straining-voice of the recorded version.
I was just going to say how Melbourne 2004 sounds real good in comparison with 1995. The strings lift as the solo is lifting. Fascinating!
