When I was in HMV Oxford Street, I found a Best Of CD with a few songs off Bat 2 and Welcome To The Neighborhood on, plus a few live tracks. How long has this been around? It was only Ģ7.

I thought it has been released, or need to be released. Probably from virgin!

Do you have a tracklist?

 That's very interesting.I've never seen that one.
Is it still available? What is the track list?Where are the live tracks taken from?
I started collecting Meat Loaf compilation albums because the record dealers I went to rarely had anything new for me,and the amount (or should I say the lack of  ) stuff available was dreadful.
Compilations were the only thing left to collect
Then I discoverd e bay  .
I class a compilation as a record where all the songs are available on an album. For example,The Very Best Of Meat Loaf (2CD set) is NOT a compilation,as there are bonus tracks that aren't available on any other album. What tukayaway discribes, might not be a compilation,as I don't know if the live tracks were made available on any other officialy produced album(although I suspect they may have been taken from the Live Around The World set). We'll have to wait and see.
The compilations I have (on CD,vinyl's a whole other subject  ) are...
Meat Loaf Hits Out Of Hell
Meat Loaf & Bonnie Tyler Heaven & Hell
Meat Loaf Alive In Hell
Meat Loaf Rock 'N' Roll Hero
Meat Loaf Rock 'N' Roll Hero (different from the above)
Meat Loaf Prime Cuts
Meat Loaf The Masters
Meat Loaf Bad Attitude
Meat Loaf And Friends

I also have four different issues of Bat (again,on CD)
Bat Out Of Hell
Bat Out Of Hell Revamped
Bat Out Of Hell (2001 edition with live tracks)
Bat Out Of Hell collectors edition.

If anybody knows of any other compilations that have ever been released in the UK,I would appreciate as much info as possible (hey,I might as well complete the set  )

If anybody needs any information on the above compilations(track lists, labels, reference numbers) let me know and i'll post it here.

THE FLYING MOUSE, do you have the 25th anniversary edition of Bat Out Of Hell? It came out in New Zealand around the middle of last year. There is discussion going on in another post on this forum about it. It is available in either a cardboard case, or a DVD-type plastic case. It has the 2001 remastered edition of Bat Out Of Hell (the one that has `Bolero' on it), but this latest one also has Dead Ringer (the studio version) as well. Also in the package is the Hits Out Of Hell DVD.

I think there are at least three (or even four) versions of the Hits Out Of Hell compilation. There are two versions of the video, one has Dead Ringer, and another has More Than You Deserve in its place. I have two versions of the CD, and one of them has the rare song Lost Love as the last track, as well as other differences.

I disagree with your definition of a compilation. Traditionally, greatest hits/best of compilations have had new tracks added to them. I guess the artists put them out when they don't have enough material for a new CD, but have a few new tracks to add, and want to remind people of their previous hits.

I think you're refering to a CD I picked up in Woolies at the weekend. Its called "Meat Loaf Heaven Can Wait - The Best OF". Tracklist is as follows:

Bat (Live)
I'd Lie For You
Midnight (Live)
Rock & Roll Dreams
Heaven Can Wait (Live)
Life Is A Lemon
All Revved Up (Live)
Everything Louder Tha Everything Else
A Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste
Original Sin
Runnin' For The Red Light

Interesting things to note: I'm sure that the version of Kiss is different to the one on the 2-CD Best Of. Aso, the copyright notices say 2003, so it looks as though it is a new release.

I picked it up for Ģ6.

Hope this helps.

I've seen Chat Out Of Hell in that same HMV in London. Don't think you need to use eBay. They also had a version of "Bad Attitude" I hadn't seen before, without "Sailor to a siren" and with different artwork. On the same day, I purchased "Live around the world" however so I didn't get it.

I bought Chat out Of Hell last weekend at "Sam The Record Man". The interview is excellent (although the quality isn't great) - Meat talks about
how Bat 1 has touched peoples souls in a way no other album has, and about his live performance.

Compilations I have:
DEFINITIVE COLLECTION
HITS OUT OF HELL
BEAUTY OF THE BEAST
TWO OUT OF THREE AINT BAD
MEAT LOAF AND FRIENDS
THE PREMIUM MASTERS COLLECTION
THE MASTERS
THE BEST BALLADS
LIVE AROUND THE WORLD
PRIME MASTERS (Cd-r)

There was a rumour back 99' that Meat was going to release a video package of "The Very Best Of Meat Loaf" to go along with the 2CD release.
Too bad this never happened.

Sounds to me like the the common very best of...
I was looking through this thread and after wondering how much was written here through the night I looked at the dates and saw that itīs 3 years old!

May I comment some things, although it might be a litte late.
Does anybody know why there are two different versions from the very best of out? Mine has the following tracklist:

Disc 1
1. Bat out of Hell
2. Dead Ringer for Love
3. Two out of three aint bad
4. Rock n Roll Dreams come through
5. Iīd lie for you (and thatīs the truth)
6. Modern Girl
7. Midnight at the Lost and Found
8. Objects in the Rear View Mirror may appear closer than they are
9. Life is a Lemon (and I want my Money back)(Remix)

Disc 2
1. Iīd do anything for Love
2. You took the words right out of my mouth
3. Heaven can wait
4. Not a dry eye in the house
5. Paradise by the Dashboard Light
6. A Kiss is a terrible thing to waste
7. Is nothing sacred
8. Home by now/No matter what
9. Nocturnal Pleasure

Did anybody notice that the HCW version is not the original BOOH version? The instrumentation is a little bit different and there is something like a storm effect at the very beginning.

I found it quite interesting that the 25th anniversary bat (with the BOOH cd+the HOOH dcd) itself is more expensive then buying both albums seperately... I mean the sense of something like that is to make people buy it, with making it CHEAPER!!!

When I bought that one (my seventh version of Bat at the time) it was just because it was cheaper than buying just the Hits DVD. Today, however...

We discussed this not all that long ago. First released in 98 with the original tracklist, they rejigged it in 2001 or some such with the track order you have, for the sake of calling it a re-release I guess. God knows why they did it.

More to the point tho: It's very interesting that your version has crap at the beginning of HCW. INTERESTING, because this means that whoever put the re-release VBO together IS truly imcompetent.

On the 98 VBO with the original track listing there is an ominous wind tunnel noise that begins over the fade out of Paradise by the dash and continues over to just over the beginning of HCW. Links the songs together a little bit. It's kinda cool.

But whoever put together the crap version a few years later when they felt the need to rearrange the tracks, instead of getting the original master from which they worked the first time they simply cut and pasted what they had.

And alot of the songs on the album have been remixed slightly. The booklet says by Jim and Meat. The solo in Modern Girl has been played with and sounds way thinner and tinnier than on Bad Attitude and last bars with the fading echo of the backing singers ("modern girl") are slightly different.

The second half of the first section of Paradise by the Dash ("gonna go all the way tonight") has been played with too and swings harshly from left to right. It's really distracting. (I'm willing to beleive that was Jim's going - he did the same thing with the solos in Good Girls on Bat 2, and IDAFL as well. Sounds terrible thru headphones).

Does your VBO come in a cardboard O-ring around the jewel case? I very enarly bought the 2001 re-release version of VBO the other day cause it came in a cool cardboard sleeve with a white sticker on the front with the words on it instead of "Meat Loaf" being printed straight onto the artwork... looked pretty cool.

Iīm not listening to the paradise version on VBO too often, but itīs true, Iīve noticed now that thereīs really this beginning wind noise and the end is on HCW...
Iīve got the cardboard sleeve, too. Thatīs one reason why I bought it, I took the sticker away, scanned the cardboard and blew it up, so that I could hang it on my wall. Itīs also interesting that this thing got the length and the years on the back, which is not on the jewel case.

Well there's nothing to be  about with the wind noise on HCW. I just explained it. On the original track listing it's cool. The kind of thing that's nice to have a on a collection made largely of stuff you have elsewhere on other CDs. It's extremely amateurish to say the least that it appears on your version, but no mystery. Mind you, for a disc that ENDS with Nocturnal pleasure what more can be expected?

Too cool about the cardboard sleeve - you make me wish I'd picked up the copy I saw a couple of weeks ago now :-) . It sure did look good.

Yeah I noticed the extra info on the back of the sleeve... that looked less good. Nice to have the variation tho I guess. I can't wait til it's time for Meat to make another sanctioned best of. I'm a sucker for a well thought out best of...

Well, it is surely , at least when you try to play it on the radio and have to cut it out. Or else speaking over it, so that nobody notices.

That's because it's th US Remix version from 1984, not the album version. I hate it, personally - the guitars are faded right down and there's a harmony guitar on the solo which adds absolutely nothing.

Yeah it's sh*t. It annoys me everytime I listen to VBO.
