View Full Version : A thought for a box
Say we get really lucky and spoiled in the next few years... And a Box Set would be released
What sortsa things would you like to see on it?
I was thinking maybe 2cds + dvd. try to refrain from music videos, cause if bat 3 goes well, we may *cross my fingers* have another Hits Outta Hell Prt 2:twisted:

The problem as I see it with a box set is that the "diehard" fans would probably like to see say a four disc set of nothing but rarities. However I am not convinced that there is enough demand for that to warrant a record company going that way and I think a more realistic expectation might be say a four disc set containing 2 CDs being some sort of update of the Very Best Of Meat Loaf (so the general record buying public are tempted), one CD of audio rarities (which would appeal to the more committed fans and then one DVD
The DVD could contain the complete Rockpalast concert from 1978 and some live footage from a 2007 show (the latter obviously being songs not done back in 1978
The rarities audio CD could contain:
The two Popcorn Blizzard tracks (where it all began)
As Heavy As Jesus (as it was the song Meat allegedly performed in auditioning to Jim Steinman
What You See Is What You Get (Meats first single)
More Than You Deserve (the 1973 version - Meat's first recording of a Steinman song)
Whatever Happened to a Saturday Night (Meat being quite well known for Rocky Horror)
Stand By Me
Keeper Keep Us
Lost Love, Take A Number, Hearts On Fire, Thrashing, RPM and Time For Heroes from the eighties
American Trilogy from the Elvis Tribute Show in 1987
Beatles songs Let It Be and Come Together
Not sure how much that would take up but obviously you have more recent lost tracks which could be used or even better find some lost songs that never made the albums or singles and were originally discarded if there are any of course
Personally I would prefer three CDs of all unreleased material such as alternative takes, live versions of songs but as I said earlier probably not a realistic expectation - I would love to be wrong though!

I think what will happen is a 30th anniversary box with Bat1,2and3.

Not sure about that, given the fact that these are different record companies we are talking about. I think a lot of licensing is involved with that kind of thing, like what happened to the Greatest Hits thing etc. I think a "Best of Bat" is more likely in a couple of years.

Although there are several best of/greatest hits compilations out there, I've yet to find one that covers all of his material up to the present. The record companies seem to love showing off Bat 1 and Bat 2 while ignoring the other albums. If I had the opportunity to create a track list for a one CD compilation, it would be something like this (and the songs would be in this exact order):
1. Couldn't Have Said it Better
2. Piece of the Action
3. Original Sin
4. Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through
5. Left in the Dark
6. For Crying Out Loud
7. Did I Say That
8. I'll Kill You If You Don't Come Back
9. Objects In the Rearview Mirror
10. Bat Out Of Hell
11. The Monster's Loose
Duration: (79:30)
I've burned this CD for my own personal use, and when I listen to all of the songs in that order, a long, clear story seems to form from the lyrics. These are definitely my top eleven ML songs, but in no particular order. If you were afforded this opportunity, and allowed to compile a CD, what choices would you make? I'm eager to hear opinions.

Since you've already said that you've burned this CD for your own personal use, I'd probably do the same and therefor NOT buy a Best Of CD where all the songs on it are ones I've already got.
If Meat was to release another:roll: greatest hits CD, then I believe it should be just the hits with an accompanying DVD with all the hits videos on it.

Just some weeks ago I made something like that for a friend who never wanted to listen to Meat. (I had to listen to a cd from an artist that I think is absolutely )
The list was:
1. Did I say that?
2. Bat out of Hell
3. Out of the frying pan and into the fire
4. Paradise by the Dashboard Light
5. A kiss is a terrible thing to waste
6. Objects in the Rear View Mirror may appear closer than they are
7. Life is a Lemon and I want my Money back
8. Rock and Roll Dreams come through
9. For crying out loud
10. The Monster is loose
77:27 (took the single edit of DIST, or else it would be to long for one CD)
Some of them are not my favorites, but I think itīs a good compilation for somebody who is starting to hear Meat, because it shows how different his songs can be.
But itīs true, that are mostly Bat songs...
(Not sure about the order, have to ask again, but I think that that are the right songs, will edit it if I find the order)

Yes, I probably would too, but I don't believe I've made myself clear. This compilation would be for new fans. :D
Radiomaster, I like your list too. It's very difficult, isn't it? lol
