I was very lucky to hear final and demo copies/some short samples of Meats new album. I warn you now that I understand some of you want to wait until March 31st to see the ‘surprises’, so if so do not read on. I guess this could be a ‘Spoiler’ for the album - so please do not read on if you are against me posting this review.
01. CHSIB The Single – I heard the radio version – only 4 of the 7 minutes of this song. I believe it is a great counter point duet – better than I’d Lie for You – and I really liked that song. Patti is great – this song really gives her the chance to show what she can do – and she’s awesome. The lyrics also are brilliant and the pace of the song. James Michael is VERY talented!
02. Did I Say That – I really believe the radio edit doesn’t do this song justice – its as if you are reading a story and miss out 5 pages – the full version has a great instrumental and I nice ending. Another amazing James Michael song – although there are better tracks on the album – excellent lyrics – great guitars too.
03. Why Isn’t That Enough – Passion in this song – similar to You’re right I was wrong – I would have left one of those songs of because they are similar and had Decadent Wish in there instead – but anyway still a good song – got whole version.
04. Love You Out Loud – Again another excellent James Michael song which I heard all of – after 5 listens or so it really grew on me – nice ‘computerized voice’ intro. I think it’s like an echo like effect. A very Strong chorus.
05. Man of Steel – Another James Michael song – lives up to the standard of the rest – one of my favorites on the album – great chorus. This song has one of the best intro to a song I have ever heard – Nothing like any of meats other intros – its weird but awesome if that makes sense. Song really picks up towards the end when peal makes her debut – she’s great! I would love to see her sing this song live beside her Dad. She would do him proud. Heard a full version. – Hope its longer on the album out 31st March – though unlikely.
06. Testify – This is another song not very Meat Loaf like – but he sounds awesome and it suits him – it has the catchiest chorus for a song that I’ve heard in a long time. It makes you want to dance – also has a very good non Meat Loaf like intro too. If he sings this live on the CHSIB world tour the arena will be buzzing. One of my favs heard a full version.
07. Tear Me Down – Turn this song up as loud as you can! It is absolutely awesome – really good rock n Roll. Has a great spoken part – Perhaps the most ‘Rock – like’ song on the album. It really is that good – perhaps a little too short though – another verse or two wouldn’t have done any harm. Heard a full version.
08. You’re Right, I Was Wrong – lovely sung song, nice and soft – good lyrics. I heard ‘a supposed full version’ – I really like this song – don’t know what he final album version will sound like but it couldn’t be any better than what I heard – does Meats voice proud.
09. Because of You – Kazaa loop – sounds pretty good from the one looping verse I heard – too hard to say – great guitars and the new Meat Loaf official site has a bit playing in the background and it seems pretty good.
10. Do it! – Got full version – all 2 odd minutes of it – This is such a great rocking song – should have been far longer – had so much potential – takes a good 5 (at least) listens to it. First impressions are “Meat what Are you doing, don’t?” Then it turns to “You can do that music just as good as anyone out there who’s been doing it all there life” such a strong song on the album!
11. Forever Young – Heard a continuous loop of it on Kazaa. Having heard the Bob Dylan version I know the song itself is amazing. After hearing what it sounds like from a 4-minute sample with Meats Voice it could be the track of the album – its that good! A great way to end the album, great lyrics and Meat does the album proud.
I can’t wait until March 31st – got my copy ordered from Amazon – last time I checked it was number 45 in their album charts – and that’s just on preorders. Its over all rank was 52. I do however think there isn’t enough Patti Russo – she’s only in one song , and Pearl is outstanding in another.
I really do believe this album is THAT good…And using the terminology you are speaking in at the moment – “It Aint Ass-Licking!” THANKS MEAT!
