View Full Version : How many Meat Loaf records do you own?

I'd be interested to know how many Meat/Jim CD's/Vinyls/Cassettes everybody has? I know that I have 6 different editions of Bat Out Of Hell on CD alone, not counting the three editions on vinyl and two on Cassette. I guess you could say I have a bit of an obsession

They are:

1 The original Bat CD
2 Bat 'Revamped' (extra track 'Dead Ringer For Love')
3 The 24k Gold-plated Master Sound/Legacy edition from a while back (very nice sound quality!)
4 The 25th Anniversary edition (with the live tracks and Dead Ringer again)
5 The same edition, but in a double pack with the Hits Out Of Hell CD
6 the double set Bat/Dead Ringer (both albums in one pack)

Too many.
I had a stage of buying everything I saw that I didn't have of Meat's/Jim's. I'm kinda past that big slightly - however, something odd pop's up I'll fork out for it. :)
I've got my Bat out of hell picture disc vinyl album. One of my faves :P

Chris

Pretty much all the commercial releases from the UK

samurai7
07 Aug 2006, 14:59
Me too - for a while I had to buy ANYTHING I could find by Meat/Jim - even if I had all the tracks on it.

I'm knd of over that now, so I didn't bother getting 'The Very Best Of...' when they reissued it a couple of years back with all the songs jumbled up. I don't know why they did that - now 'Nocturnal Pleassure' is taken out of its original context... :?

Also, there's like a million different versions of the 'Rock and Roll Hero' compilation, so I've avoided some of those. Same with 'Meat Loaf and Friends' etc. But as far as albums, singles, picture discs, etc go, I must have very nearly every one. And now that we have access to ebay, I'm kind of getting the bug again, and searching for those very few that I need to complete my collection... :D

And as for the Jim records I have... well, let's not go there...

...it's not easy admitting you owwn Barry Manilow and Air Supply records...

I bought any CD/tape/video/DVD that had Meat or Jim on, but not if I already had all the songs! I think I have nearly all the CDs except the "and Friends" and the "Heaven and Hell", as I have the shorter tape of that. Have two copies of the two Bats only because I played them so much they got damaged, one of the copies of Bat II being the cassette. Single-wise I only have CHSIB and MOS.

I have all albums released in US and a lot that were released abroad.

The only one I am missing on CD is Bad Attitude which I have problems getting for some reason - delivery keeps on getting postponed. But I do own it on tape.

Check my website. It doesn't have all the different versions of the same album (Bat: 7 versions, Bat II: 6, etc.), but it's an overview of what I've got.
Slightly outdated at the moment, as I'm still waiting on some items to arrive before the update.

I've got more or less every uk commercial release including any singles that I can get my hands on and i've got some imports. Though I tend not to keep buying all the reissues of the 'Best Of's especially if there's no new tracks on them. I've got quite a large vinyl collection including picture disc's and i've also got a large collection of videos and all the dvd's which have been released so far. I too used to collect anything and everything but these days i'm a little more laid back, though I think i'll revert to my old ways when Bat 3 is issued!!!

What's there to be  about, having only one copy of each album? If having several versions floats your boat, great. If it doesn't, also great. And cheaper.

OK,

we mustn;t panic but after answering this question i went to browse my collection to see how much i do have. It would appear i have two rather glaring omissions:
Welcome to the neighbourhood - I used to own this so don't know where it has gone
And Bat 2 - I don;t think i ever bought this!

I feel a trip to the record store coming on.

samurai7

I have about two thousand CDs in total (possibly more - I haven't counted them lol) and over a thousand DVDs. All different styles of music, and all different types of movies. Does this answer your question?

I have the BOOH 12" single on red vinyl that could be qualified as see through, but I've never heard of any version of the album on coloured/transparent vinyl (picture discs being the obvious exception)

Actually I must confess that I don't own any Meat Loaf records.
But that's only because I'm fan in second generation and my father bought them all.
We have All albums till Bat II on vinyl, Bat two times, all others on CD.
The only single we have is nowhere fast on vinyl.
Additionally there are a lot of live recordings and some Best ofs.
Most important here is "Rock n' Roll Hero", because it provides all songs from Bad Attitude, Blind Before I Stop and Live on CD.
What really is missing are CD versions from Dead Ringer and Midnight at the lost and found, because I don't have all the songs from it on CD and my father is very reluctant to let me get near his old LPs.

 THe only clear release (that springs to mind) is the 4 track 12" EP from the 82 tour.
Commonly know as the "Irish" EP, 'twas available in black or clear vinyl.
The clear vinyl is rarer than the black, and DOES command more money, but I think the £75 mark is a little high myself  .

I've seen that one advertised for as much as £150!!! Luckily I bought my copy back in the '80s.

There's a brown translucent vinyl of the BOOH album from Mexico but you'd have to want that one pretty badly and dig deep because it usually commands a high price.

I've got the red 12" single of 'Bat', and the 7" picture discs of "Dead Ringer For Love", "Rock & Roll Dreams", the wicked skull-shaped "Piece of the Action", 12" Pic discs of "If You Really Want To", "Modern Girl", those weird guitar shaped versions of "Rock & Roll Mercenaries" (both the UK and US themed ones!) plus the 1993 reissue pic-disc 12" of 'Bat', the 12" pic-disc of "Running For The Red Light", the "Bat" pic-disc album (1982), "Bad for Good" pic-disc album, the weird shaped "Getting Away With Murder" pic-disc...

I'm sure there's more, but I'm not pulling my vinyl collection out at 3am!! lol!!!

Oh, I also have the pic-CD version of Bat II (Virgin UK version, before they replaced it with the black disc version)

Every 'normal' 7"/12"/CD single by Meat, Bonnie, Jim or Pandora's Box, plus Barry's "Read 'Em & Weep" and the 12" of Air Supply's "Making Love..." is also in my collection. Including the 3" CD's and all the early 90's reissues. The only one I'm missing is the clear vinyl Live in '82 EP, which I've since learned isn't actually 'live' at all

When my bedroom is redecorated it will go on the wall! I had to go up in my loft today and because of this stupid thread I couldn’t just go past the box with all my old vinyl records in it without having a little count. Because the number was higher than ten I had to steal my son’s abacus. Apparently when I was younger I used to have a bit of an obsession which may account for the 164 Meatloaf/Steinman vinyl records I have. Now if you think I am going to sit and itemise each and ever item you can think again. But i did spend nearly an hour up there reading through the 36 concert programmes I’ve got

Now all I have got to do is remember what I went up into the bloody loft for in the first place...

I think it is a well spent sunday afternoon then ;)

Last year (could've been the year before) I was lucky enough to get hold of an extremely rare promo version of the theme tune for the short lived TV show The Delta House, which was written by Steinman and then became the music for Dead Ringer For Love. You can listen to it on Smeghead's realmofdreams site or click HERE (http://www.realmofdreams.com/steinman/sounds/deltahouse.mp3) instead.

When I was in my teens, I went through a phase of collecting Meat Loaf shaped picture discs.

Rock'n'Roll Mercenaries (white with UK flag guitar)
Rock'n'Roll Mercenaries (black with US flag guitar)
Modern Girl
Nowhere Fast
Piece Of The Action
Getting Away With Murder

I'm not sure what other shaped picture discs there are of Meat Loaf apart from round ones :lmao:

You found the BFG vinyl in Oxfam as well as Bat?!?! And I thought I did well finding Hits in Oxfam, Bat in Children's Society, and Dead Ringer single in Barnardos over a two week period!
I was lucky to find the BFG CD in newcastle a few years ago: me and Mam had went there shopping for Christmas presents, as their shops are bigger than the ones in Sunderland, so logically they should have more variety of products, and once you've navigated your way around the shops to the Rock/Pop section, should be rather easy to find. How wrong we were! A 3 floor HMV didn't have one, neither did Virgin, WHSmith or music Zone, so we ended up at this shop we'd started at but I didn't bother looking in as their CDs cos they only have a small number. Of course, when we asked the girl if they had it, she said
"Jim Steinman? You don't find many of those around!" (you're telling us?!)and she went and looked in a completely different place to where I was and found it!
A little while later I looked in the tiny Sunderland shops and found three copies of BFG spread between HMV and MZ!:evil:

Anyway!............So you have the BFG vinyl?! I am so jealous but happy for you at the same time!

The Bad For Good vinyl isn't anything special or rare and can be found quite easily, I stumbled across 2 copies over here in NZ in the past month. The one's you want to get though is the Bad For Good picture disc and the Bad For Good blue vinyl LP, which pops up on Ebay now and again.

Collectors old or new should check out THIS (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MEATLOAF-JIM-STEINMAN-PICTURE-DISC-X2-TODD-RUNGREN_W0QQitemZ170024939580QQihZ007QQcategoryZ1593QQssPageNameZWDVWQ QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) Ebay listing, it's a good deal;)

Wow, those are great, thanks!:D
I guess they just seem rare to me as there isn't really a proper whereabouts to find vinyls other than charity shops, and you just have to be there a couple of days after someone decides to donate their old albums and singles, and hunt through them all until you find what you're looking for or get a complete surprise. It seems to give me more sense of satisfaction than going on ebay and fighting it out with other bidders. I've only started looking the past couple of weeks, and even then only in the Lake District and my home city; I may get through to Durham or maybe even Newcastle and raid their shops before I go back to university!

I FOUND THE LP OF BAD FOR GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cheer:
Found it for £4.99 in a little insignificant record shop near the interchange which I remembered about as I passed today. Had no Meat, but right at the very back of the S section I found Jim:-) Was almost going :panic: around the town! It was literally the one right at the back, I've done that about three times now, I'm gonna start at the back and work my way forward from now on!
Anyway, dead happy!!!!!!!! Only want BatII and III and DR now, unless the project Meat and Jim might be doing for the 30th anniversary will have a vinyl with great artwork.
