THAT I don't know...I've seen a movie before I knew who Meat was and thought it was great...

Try to watch it again a bit later and see if it grows on you - it has a tendency to do so.

The first time I watched it I thought, eh, what was that about, but after watching it again, and again, I thought it was excellent. I had the chance to join an audience participation a few years back, and that is what makes this film. It was an excellent night. :D

The Rocky Horror Show started out as a small play written by Richard O'Brien in 1973 and became a film in 1975, and it's become a cult film where people dress as the characters.. Me being one of them:oops: ! and use props;
- Rice
- Confetti
- Toast
- Water pistol
- Loo Roll
- Bell
- Newspaper
- Rubber gloves
- Party poppers
- Torch/lighter

And a few other things and call out to the screen, it's a fun little movie that is alot of fun... Though there is outrage at the moment as Sing-A-Long-A want to take over and that will make it crap!
You will either love it or hate it but give it ago! It's the best feeling in the world:lol: !

I especially love this call out...

JANET: If only the car hadn't broken down!
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION: BUT IT DID!
JANET: If only we hadn't made this journey!
AP: BUT YOU DID!
JANET: If only we were amoungst friends or sane person's!
AP: TWO OUT OF THREE AIN'T BAD!

I have to say, I've never met a Meat Loaf fan who doesn't love RHPS!

I absolutely love it, the first time I saw it I thought it was a bit odd but I can't get enough of it now, it's one of the few DVD's I can watch then put straight back to the beginning and watch it all again. The characters, the music, the costumes - love it all!

I like it, coz it's crazy!

It also reminds me of a bloke I worked with once - he was very stiff and starchy, wore a suit & tie, spoke very good ellocuted English and had absolutely zilch sense of humour. One morning I arrived at work to find him in a crumpled heap on the back door step in stockings, suspenders, basque, very smudged make-up, etc  ...... He'd been to see the stage show in London, got rat-arsed with his mates on the way home, and they'd dumped him at the back of the office as it was closer to the train station than where he lived. I must admit, as a very naiive young lady at the time who'd never even heard of Rocky Horror, I was very worried about continuing to work with him, but after a few cups of very strong coffee (for both of us), a full explanation from him, and a borrow of his video - I was hooked! We got on really well after that, as I realised he was totally different outside of work to the nerd I shared an office with!

You're not the only Meat fan who doesn't like it, my mother had me turn it off when it got to Brad and Janets seduction. I personally love the film its one of the funniest things i've ever seen and it just really fun to watch.

Take it from a former cast member (Columbia every Friday and Saturday night during High School...those were the days...ahem)
You HAVE to see it in a theater with the "participation" part. Watching it at home just does not do it justice (no matter how loud you yell your lines back)!

Its also fun to see it in different parts of the country....the participation bits vary sometimes by location. Best place ever to see it is NYC imo. Mad Mike and the gang are great!

Toodles!

I'm with you, Dizzy Drummer. I will never be convinced. But I am coming from a completely biased other place in not liking the movie. I only watch it up until Meat exits and then I leave it also.

I think it's perfectly ok to have your own opinion and your own taste...the movie certainly isn't mainstream and it is...love it or hate it...

And I think it's ok...

First time I saw it, I thought WTF is this??
Now that I've seen it a few times, I've come to like the weird uniqueness of the film, and even own a copy of it now. :)) It's one of those films that grows on you in time, if you give it a chance.

I love rhps!! My husband and i danced our first wedding "WALTZ" to sweet transvestite and mimed to it and acted out the parts it was a hoot. Im now in my 40,s I think it is an age thing maybe. I dont get southpark! But the Rocky horror thing just gets me going! I can be in a foul mood and put on the music and Im fine in 2 songs! For thoose of you who do love RHPS the sequel is good also Different but good. Its called Shock treatment. It was not as sucessfull as the original and no, Meat is not in it. Some catchy little tunes. very early 80,s

Well I guess you'll be able to tell from my username that I like RHPS! Dunno about the age thing, I'm 26 and I first watched it when I was about 16 and I liked it then too.:D
Have never seen the sequel though.....

I first saw a stage production of the rocky horror show in Melbourne Australia when I was 17 and loved it. I first saw meat in 1978 when I was only 13. I never actually saw the movie of rhps until my mid twenties and had loved Meat and Rocky horror seperately. You can imagine how ecited I was when I finally saw the movie and found out that my 2 favourite music things were linked!! I have a very old vhs copy of shock treatment that I got from a video shop that was closing down. I have never been able to find it on dvd though. You would like it if you are a died in the wool fan as i guess you are.It starts off after Brad and Janets divorce, and is set in a t.v. studio set andBarry Humphries ( an Australian Comedian/actor) plays the T.v. gameshow host. It is very cult!

Tim Curry is almost as sexy as me when I'm dressed in my outfit ... so I'm told. Though I doubt that's true - I'm way sexier! My purple boa is just, just, oooooh!

One advice for people who have not seen Shock Treatment...do not go into it expecting to see a typical "sequal" of sorts. It is a very different type of film, but still super cool in every way. Ritz was absolutely brilliant working within the extremely limited confines he was given. Shock Treatment...not a sequal, not a prequal, but an equal!

One thought on Rocky Horror Picture Show for the ones who just dont "get it" at all. There is an extremely great amount of the essence of the project that is totally lost in translation when you sit alone in a quiet room watching it. Rocky Horror is a musical that really does have a life of its own that has a need and a desire to be experienced in a group setting.

I totally agree with you on this one! I have the honor of looking out over a crowd of people all dressed up like the movie on a weekly basis. It is a beautiful thing.

Most people that I know who are into Rocky Horror, are either single or sexually confused, not that that's an issue or anything, but I'm neither and I just don't 'get it'. Saying that, I'd probably go see a live production if one was local and get dressed up, but as suggested I'd need to go in a group to fully appreciate it I think.

I like watching it at home, even, (great if you are planning on kids)... I can't wait to break my AP virginity at the end of the month... I just wish it was easier to get my hands on fishnets and the full outfit.

To whomever began this thread, it took me about 6-7 viewings (privately) over about 2 years, before I fully appreciated the film... keep at it, and understand that it is a satire of every film ever made, and you'll understand eventually. :D
