Here a review of the opening night of Night of the proms in The Netherlands (wednesday november 21)
It was my first time to attend the Night of the proms, and I had a realy good time.
The orchestra and the choir were great and the artists were also great.
Especialy Chris de Burgh and John Miles realy rocked, and Adiemus was very beautiful.
K-otic was the surprise act (a dutch group), not realy my taste.
The people around me and myself came to the conclusion that all in all it was a great support act for THE MAN.
Yes, finally after waiting for two hours or so, he finaly made his entree, The one and only Meat Loaf.
And not alone, he brought Pearl, Patti Russo, Mark Alexander, John Miceli and not to forget the one and only Kasim Sulton with him. Patti and Pearl looked realy vampish. Unfortunatly I couldn't see John very well 'cause the drums were al the way back of the podium and the orchestra was sitting in front of him.
Meat started with the already Meat classic Home by now/No mather what, preforming it seated on a chair and with his eyes wide shut, just as it should be. And with an orchestra backing him up, its was the most beautifull sight and sound I have heard and seen in years.
It was followed with you took the words....., just before the song started Meat and Kasim had a little collision on the stage. They bumped in to each other, but nobody was hurt.
After you took the words came I'd do anything for love..... The intro was accompanied by a organ solo by John Miles himself. Meat had some trouble with starting the lyrics, apparantly it was to noisy or something. With the third attempt he succeeded and sung the lyrics. As the old Dutch expresion says: Three times is shipsright.
It was as beautifull as always.
And then as last piece came Paradise by the Dashboardlight the xxxxxxl version.
During Paradise, Meat Loaf demonstrated that he is still very athletic, cause he made a roll over the podium. When he came to the long Paradise by the dashboardlight part. He told us we had to sing the Light part, apparantly we did not a good job the first time. He asked if he was in Rotterdam, because in Rotterdam they can sing he told us and what he just heard sounded like nothing. He was so pissed apparently, that he started walking of the stage taking the complete orchestra with him. We all started cheering and clapping. Thank goodness he came back and gave us a second change. He was satisfied with our second attempt.
Paradise was the last song, sniff sniff.
after thanking us and telling us to never ever stop rocking, he left.
sniff sniff.
The orchestra started playing land of hope and glory and the complete audience sung along.
After that flowers were given to all of the artists, and yes Meat reappeared!!!!!!!!!!!!
joy joy joy!
They all started singing yellow submarine. With a small solo for Patti and meat also grabbed the mike for a few words.
After that it was over.
At the end of the evening I came to the following Conclusions:
-John Miles and Chris de Burgh Rock!
-Meat Loaf is great! (I already knew that)
-But Meat Loaf backed up by an orchestra is even greater!
-Meat preformance was way too short!
I would like to thank Night of the proms, Meat Loaf, Pearl Aday, Patti Russo, John Miceli, Mark Alexander, of course Kasim Sulton and all the other artists for a great night out.
Fortunately The night of the proms are not over for me yet, 'cause next thursday I will be attending the concert again.
Greetings
