My mother smoked until she got cancer. She wouldn't quit until she coughed up blood and had half her throat removed including her voice-box, now she can't speak at all.
So you'll have to excuse me if I'm a little blunt.

Sorry to hear that.
But words of encouragement in giving up wouldn't hurt surly...

What more encouragement can you give someone to stop smoking than saying that it could eat away at your organs and there's a good chance you can die from it?
Pud

Is it worth setting up a Quit Smoking support and discussion group? :barf: I may even consider joining it too......
Maybe Hypnobabe could give us group therapy sessions when she's sobered up from the V Festival?

All Sunneke said was that Neil might want a cigarette but he won't smoke...or at least that's how I read it...
Best way to give up is to lock this thread and get on with daily life without thinking about it everytime you read a post which reminds you.

Okay, okay, time for some group therapy...
First of all:
Nicotine is only in the system for seven days after quitting, so if you can go that long without smoking, you're laughing - I assume you're stronger than a little white stick?
Secondly:
Do you know what's in cigarettes, apart from tobacco? A couple of the lovely extra ingredients we don't know about are arsenic, cyanide, benzo-pyrene (a known carginogen (cancer-causing substance)) plus all the assorted pesticides and insecticides you bet your boots the tobacco companies don't bother to wash off
Advice I usually give my clients:
1) Drink more milk/eat more cheese (should be easy for you, Mr Mouse!) or yoghurt or something else with lots of calcium in, plus drink more fresh orange juice/eat oranges or something with lots of Vitamin C in - it'll help the cravings.
2) Clean away EVERYTHING you have to do with smoking - throw away any unsmoked cigarettes, empty and wash out ashtrays, then put them away where you won't see them.
3) Tell AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN that you've quit - it'll be much harder to start up again if you know you've got to go around and tell 200 people that you don't have as much willpower as you thought.
4) Find a friend who has also just quit - you both know what the other one is going through, and you can give each other moral support.
5) Remember, smoking is virtually no different from being a drug addict - is that the way you'd want your loved ones to remember you?
If anyone else on here is quitting and wants to PM me, it MAY be possible to sort out some over the phone hypnosis - no promises, mind you, either or sorting it out or on it working!!
Would you accept collect call from the States???
