I would like to come to the alter and announce that not only do I felt called to become a Deacon in the First Church Of Meat Loaf, but also would like to sing in the choir?

Anyone else feel "called" to take a position in the church?

This is going to be fun!!!

Well if David's a deacon, I think Feleena and I can be the cute little choir girls who sing the loudest and Roadie dance at the front!

Yeah it kind of does sound like the Republic of Loafdom...except that we were setting up a government rather than a church. Meat himself was president, I was his running mate (until I resigned that position). In the early stages everyone was asking for a position in the cabinet and I was allocating them. It was really cool.

NO!!!
This is nothing like The Republic....Meat Loaf himself endorsed the fact that "The First church of Meat Loaf" would be coming in 2002 in his interview in the MLUKFC Newsletter that came along with that oh so marvelous Christmas card....

.....You know....We badly need an organist....

....anyone play??

Well, I don't know what has already done regarding the First Church of Meat Loaf, but on the face of it, it does seem, in a sense to be similar to the Republic, with the notable exception that it is a `religious' context as opposed to a government context.

It may be that this Church will evolve in a similar way to the Republic, with people asking for a position in the church and you (is it you in charge?) allocating them. In the early stages, it was I who was the vice-president, before I resigned a few months ago.

Meat did vote for one of four (not sure of the number) flags for the Republic. Caryl also talked about the Republic to him at the Meet and Greet in Atlantic City, and gave him a scrapbook of material on the Republic. I'm not sure if this is what you'd call endorsement however.

As I understand it, you are not actively involved in the Republic as some of us are, and may not be aware of some things regarding it. Regardless of whether you are or not, for the moment at least, I would respectfully disagree with you that the Church is nothing like the Republic. That may change of course as the Church takes shape. The concept certainly does seem exciting. Perhaps it is not too late to get a mention on the Testify album??

Having said all that, I thought that perhaps you could make a seperate site for the Church, or make it a major section on your current website. Being a church, you could do with `commandments' or some sort of equivalent of the Bible or Koran. This is really exciting!!!

Oh, and is there any position for me? I don't know what I could do, maybe I could be a priest/preacher or listen to people's confessions!! How about a weekly worship service?!?!

Oh man...
This is nothing like what you are trying to make it.
Meat Loaf jokingly mentioned THE FIRST CHURCH OF MEAT LOAF during an exclusive interview that he did for the MLUKFC newsletter.
If someone wanted to take the reigns and start a website or "take control" of the "Church" I would not be opposed.
As for me leading it? I hardly think so! I would rather the FCOML remain a nontangible thing as the bat caves, rather than something where someone is in control.
Meat Loaf makes music that makes each and every person "think" just a little bit more than most artists.
I thought that I could make a little fun comment about the interview to see if anyone caught on. I did not expect for this to blow up and stuff.
Anyways, back to the concept...
...I was thinking that the church must definately have high vaulted wood paneling ceilings (ala Industry, AL). But, that is just my opinion.

I'm not trying to `make it' as you say. I just wasn't sure how much you were trying to `make it'. It was not apparent to me in your first post.

I don't have access to the exclusive Meat Loaf interview and know nothing about its contents so in that respect I am not as informed as you are about the context of this whole thing.

*sigh*
No access to the interview? This is just another reason why you need to join the Meat Loaf UK Fan Club! I have said it before and will say it again, Anne is amazing! Meat did an exclusive interview for the MLUKFC newsletter. It was cool to hear him not only answer Anne's questions, but also to hear his answers to some of our questions!
Testify! is coming soon...I can feel it in the air....

Woooooow! Tension in here tonight isn't there!

I met David through the MLUKFC, and we've come to know each other quite well. I honestly don't believe that when he started this thread, he intended any bitterness or arguments, just a bit of fun, which has quite obviously been blown way out of proportion!

The FCOML is not now, and if I'm honest I don't think it ever will be, a real "group". It's simply a fun idea that has stemmed from something Meat said.

But what I fail to understand, and if someone can fill me in on this then please do so, is why there has been so much tension caused about the FCOML and ROL???! We're all Meat Loaf fans, right? No matter where we come from or what we look like or whatever - that's one thing that we all have in common - we're Meat's fans. To support him when he's topping the charts, headlining the theatre or simply doing nothing ( not that Meat does that very often! ) - that's what we're about - or supposed to be about!
When Meat thanks his fans at shows, he doesn't thank the fans who belong to certain groups and clubs and not everyone else, he thanks every single one of us - because to him, I think anyway, that we're one big group of fans - with no limits and no fences.

Lucy.

Yes I know. When I become eligible for a credit card, and thus become able to join, I'll certainly do so.

Hey Shane:
Keep an eye out on the message boards and/or the Yahoo! club and/or Loafdom@yahoogroups.com because from time to time we have "quick quiz" chats where FREE memberships are given away. Usually these are only like once a year or so, but something you might want to keep in mind!
