View Full Version : Meat goes Gold + Platinum x 2 :)
Sunday saw Bat Out Of Hell 3 go Gold in the uk and The Very Best Of... reached double platinum with sales of over 600,000 in the UK since 1998.
Not so good news on the Mid-weeks so far.
The single is currently down to 26 with sales of 1500 and the album down to 13 with sales of around 4600.
I'll get yesterdays figures within the hour :)
Good news on the Gold and the Double Platinum ... congratulations!

Perhaps the Christmas spree shopping will boosts sales a bit in the next few weeks also.

great news for the sales - do you think Meat might get another Grammy Award ???? IF so, they should do a special sghow on TV dedicated to Meat Loaf with Live songs :-)

The TV advertising for Bat III seems to have dried up.
Perhaps they'll promote it again as Christmas approaches, noticed Robbie's album is still being pushed on TV ... not quite the success anticipated so come on Mercury get behind our boy!!!!!

Yeah, if you compare it to when Bat II came out, I'd be inclined to agree. I haven't seen much about it at all. :(

same here seen no tv adverts or anything, wouldn't have known it was out if it wasn't for this site and meat doing interviews!
it's great to hear its gone gold and best of's new status but i cant help but think the advertisments etc aren't matching Meat's own personal efforts. He can't promote this thing single handed which seems to be what the record company are expecting him to do!

I agree. The record company are shit! I really hope Meat kicks the crap out of them and takes them to court. They really deserve it because all they seem to care about is the money.
It's strange because I feel hatred towards the record company at the moment that I have never felt before towards anyone I know!
The fact the album is #12 at the moment is rubbish and it really does not deserve a position like that in it's third week.

 Don't forget Paul, they're a record company.
Money is ALL they care about.
I mean, if you go into a news agent, and ask him if he's passionate about Mars Bars, you'll be carted off in a white van with flashing lights.
We as fans DO care about Meat, and we DO care that Bat III fulfills it's full potential and takes the world by storm.
To them, it's just another product to make cash off.
I must admit, that they FECKED CHSIB.
I mean they screwed it.
They KILLED that album dead.
This time around, there has been a little more promo.
There have been adverts in papers and magazines, and TV adverts.
Meat has done his usual grand job of flogging himself to death by hitting appearances on every show he can, even scoring the command pwerformance next month.
Could Mercury have done more?
Well they can ALWAYS do more, but i'm not AS pissed off with them this time around.
For one, I caused murder in Vigin in Liverpool when I asked if copies of Bat III could be shown on the more prominant new releases stand right as you walk in the door (the stand that Bat III was ACTUALLY on was on a wall behind you as you walked in, in of all places, the DVD section  )
I was told by the manager (yes, I even got him involved  ) that the stand I wanted Bat III on is reserved for records whose companies PAY to have displayed there.
This made me very fecking angry
Bat III is on a wall that you don't look at as you come into the store (I had to REALLY look to find Bat III anywhere but under Meat Loaf in Rock & Pop) and on this prime piece of ad space were rows and rows of fecking Robbie Williams, and you ain't gonna believe this, some bloody musical put out by the Disney Channel :yikes:
So there IS more that Mercury could have done, and could still do.
It would be a real shame if Mercury were to pull the plug on advertising this album so soom after release.
There is a lot of milage to cover, and they need to stoke the engines to go the distance.
Thing is... I don't know exactly how it works, I suspect it could be surmised that the record company
A) Gets paid to promote an album
B) Gets given a promotion budget
and possibly
C) Reaps some percentage of album sales
So. What have they done to justify their pay packet? Where has their promotions budget gone? And surely, on a percentage basis, it would make sense for them to promote the hell out of the album (no pun intended)?
I just don't get their reluctance to do their damn job. Universal Australia didn't even bother to release the singles to the public, nor to the RADIO STATIONS.
Do you reckon we, as fans, could launch a lawsuit?

 Ever penny you lay out is a penny spent.
If you can manage to sell albums without spending those pennies, then those pennies were wasted.
That's the logic of a record company.
Whereas anybody else would pay for all the advertisment needed, record companies seem to be very reluctant to spend time and money on silly little things like "promo".
Hey, sending a promo copy out isn't free of charge you know
There's a stamp involved
Isn't the oldest principle in wealth building the adage that "it takes money to make money"?
It doesn't seem particularly complex from here. If the record companies spent the money they were given, they would stand to make more money than by not utilising the initial investment.
HHCIB, FFS?

 Yes, but you have a brain
You also have faith of how big Bat III could be if it was given the right ammount of pushing.
I honestly believe that record companies look at a product like this........
What is this product?
What are the demigraphs of the people who will buy it?
What is the MAXIMUM quantities that this product could sell?
What is the MINIMUM ammount of promo we have to do for this product to realise this maximum?
Because god forsake that they should overspend one penny that wasn't needed :yikes:
Comes down to the record companies faith in the particular product.
If they had the half the faith in Bat III that we have here, they would be promoing it like there was no tommorow.
More radion play.
More TV adverts.
Space on those prominant display stands in stores.
More newspaper and magazine adverts.
Bat III is doing just fine and dandy by anyones standards, but it's not ever nearly reaching it's FULL potential.

Precisley. That's what's disappointing. It's a great album and 12th in it's 3rd week is not doing it justice at all. It's not a bad chart position but it deserves to be higher. Imo.
Mercury have based their 'promotion' on the fact that its a BOOH album, and thats about it really. Uni have paid for the prime promotion of The Killers, Razorlight (including £250,000 on 3 foot card stands and more on 12' square boxes), same with Scissor Sisters, even ****ing Beck (Which has sold next to **** all) and Meat gets a few beer mats. Nothing for window displays. I got my stuff (in store promotional items) over a WEEK after it was released.
It seems as though its a case of 'well, we've took a chance on this, the last two albums didn't sell overly well (CHSIB, BOOH Live) so we'll just let whatever happens, happen'.
Meat should have done Bat 3 on our label :P
Next album Meat? :P
Hang on, sure since the album has been released there hasn't been a great deal of promotion ... but in the UK what about the huge billboard adverts? the Tesco trucks touring the country, the prime time TV adverts (F1 and Corrie) the numerous adverts on the lesser satellite channels (VH1 etc etc). The numerous interviews and TV appearances ... all of which take money and effort to arrange from the record company and Meats management.
People are classing the promotion of Bat III along the same lines as CHSIB, when that IMO is clearly not true.
What's happened is that the promotion has dropped off after release, when the momentum should have been kept going for a week or two. Perhaps we'll see it all pick up again at the end of the month when Meat is back on these shores?

Agreed, no promotion after the initial release ... but they need to get it going again, Christmas run-up is exactly the right time, if they don't start again by the back end of November it'll be a dead duck!
Mike
I disagree totally, SONY pushed VBO more than Uni/Merc pushed Bat 3 on TV.
Meat got put on a few programs, he was on more for CHSIB
I'm STILL to see a Bat 3 advert
30 Trucks and a few billboards hardly counts as a massive push for an Artist that has such a massive fanbase in the UK.
Rocks most epic adventure continues... to be under promoted.
They should have hammered the radio stations, allowed the video to be on more than 2 stations, etc. There are a million and one things that could have been done, but what do we know?
At least its not as much of a **** up as CHSIB...
It is as much of a **** up as CHSIB in Australia. The shops didn't even get promotional posters. The radio stations didn't get promotional CD's, either album or singles. Although, to be fair, the week before the release, there were 2 radio ads and one late night TV ad in Victoria, and one rerun of an interview in a West Australian paper.
And that's it.
If that's not a **** up, what is?
