:wtf: Looks like the Ferrari's driver either spilled his beer over his trousers and the seats, or was answering a phone call.

:lmao: So Smart's optional extras are brakes and mercedes optional extra's are indicators  We should start a thread on what the optional extra's are on the different cars.

Psst, a Smart is a merc!!

And yes we have brakes but smarties are an exciting bunch of daredevils and intrepids who don;t require the use of such namby pamby devices.

Plus we are all slightly loopy and it is so hard to concentrate on giving the universal greeting (flash and wave) to other drivers and watching out for the return waves or the key jangling from those Smarties in disguise as pedestrians that we rarely have time to remember what the other pedal is for!!

It's made by Merc but it isn't actually a merc. A Cheaper version maybe :-P :D

Psst, a Smart is a merc!!The Smart Car company (I don't even remember the name, wasn't the SwatchTM founder/owner involved with this?) has been bought by DaimlerChryslerTM some years ago and they're not happy with it. That does not even remotely make it a Merc. And that's probably a good thing, because rumours have it that nowadays the production quality of a Mercedes-BenzTM car (A .. E class) sucks.

Well the Merc A Class, I know a few Merc owners who would disagree that it is even a Mercedes.

The Smart was designed as a concept car by Nicholas thingie (the SWATCH founder who now has the pink house in Las Americas, Tenerife) in the 1980's but was never full completed at the time due to cost restraints and other pressures.

At a dinner party in the late 1980's he passed the concept to a designer with Mercedes who approached Merc years later when he rediscovered the idea. They agreed it could work but instead of creating a model for it, they set up a spin off company (The Micro Compact Car Company) to create it. This company was then purchased from Mercedes by their parent corporation DaimlerChrysler adn rebradned as MCC Smart Gmbh. The Smart was dropped making it MCC GmbH in the early part of this decade. Around the same time the capital S was dropped.

All the engines in smarts remain designed, engineered and branded as Mercedes engines and it has been marketed over the last 3 years as "powered by Mercedes". Mark 1 - 5 smarts had the smart decal on the front which was replaced on the mark 7 with the new smart design (known colloquially as The smart Chickenhead). A factory optional extra is to have the "chickenhead" replaced with the standard Mercedes logo (the circle with the 3 spokes). However, this is mounted in a different way and severely limits the choice of panel swaps due to the fixing holes being drilled differently.

Given the financial problems smart encountered, te option of taking it back under the Mercedes marque as a model was considered prior to the scrapping o the roadster and CrossBlade models. However, a reprieve was granted following funding from Brabus. The plan has been postponed subject to sales of the smart ForFour improving performance. if this doesn;t happen then the model is due to be assimilated into the Merc range as early as 2008.

(guess who has chosen smart cars as one of their mastermind specialist subjects!!)
