Since when did we start threatening people?
Kevin has dealt in facts, he's also well placed to offer opinions being at the "coal face" as far as record sales are concerned and he has done an enormous amount on this site to promote the BOOH III album and the singles (singles I couldn't have bought other than online via him given my mobility problems).
We all have different ways of expressing ourselves and that applies to thread titles. Mine would have been different as I've implied previously, so would yours. It doesn't make him wrong.
A little tolerance of a different style / approach would be welcome - he hasn't been abusive or threatening that I'm aware of.
We are in danger of becoming frightened rabbits.

Begs the question that i asked before, are we meant to be robots here?

Exterminate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Begs the question that i asked before, are we meant to be robots here?
Yes. Unless your opinion on any given topic is "It's the best thing ever", keep quiet. 8 pages of people agreeing with other in 5 words or less is far more interesting.
Begs the question that i asked before, are we meant to be robots here?
No. But being sensitive to the feelings of the man whose name is on every page here seems appropriate, and is not acting as a robot, but rather with respect and deference to his feelings. The thread title was imo extremely negative, suggesting that this wonderful new album is washed up and on its way out (even if that was not Kevin's intention, and I agree he has worked hard to promote the album and has brought positive sales figures).
I think R is right and the title reflects more accurately a discussion with the potential to be positive. Plus he runs the website and is entitled to make changes if he chooses.

I don't think anyone who has posted in this thread has wanted anything other than a successful album for Meat.
At the risk of repetition, honest expression of where many UK fans at least feel there is a problem serves to highlight the issue which in their opinion needs rectifying.
This has been a positive thread to those seeking to promote the album not a negative one. It's a good album we just want more people to know it's out there.
As Caryl says R. is the webmaster, but just because he is doesn't always make him or anyone else right all the time.
If R. asked you to stand on your head on the carriageway of the M1 at Sheffield would you do it ? ... now I'm really afraid of the response that will elicit lol.
Mike

you know i agree with what you say re: respect Caryl...
as for the original title of the thread... that one was a real negative Meat-eye catcher wasn't it?.. this new one just says it as it is... with no editorializing ... and imo Kev's smartarsed response to R's changing it leads me to believe he was content with the negative aspect of the his original title ...

Wow I have a ton of things to say on the latter part of this thread, but I guess it would be wise to not say them.
But there is a few things I feel I need to say. Sorry if this offends you icwuke, but you are trying to paint yourself in a very saintly way here. I have no idea what the ins and outs are of your deal with your work. But i'm sure you did alright out of the cds. As in commision or something or at the very least you will now be in the firms good books. Plus not sounding ungreatful or anything but them cds actually cost me more than if I had gone into the shop and bought them. they also didn't arrive till the 20th which meant I had to buy them twice so i could get them signed at the cd signing.
Also please don't forget you also sold dvdrs on ebay of stuff you had downloaded off the fans here and made a huge profit of at least a thousand pound. So saying how much you're doing for everyone here doesn't really sit to well with me, especially when a fair bit of that stuff was mine and stuff that I have shared freely (and also at a cost to myeslf on many occasions)
Just another thing I'd like to add. I really do feel for R and Diane. They really can't win here. Meat tells them he wont visit the site and will not give them things if they dont censor people and on the other hand they get fans calling them how heavy handed they are (and thats putting it mildly)
I'm not a fan of locked threads, or censcoring, infact it annoys the hell out of me, but I do see why they feel they have to. They do this for the sheer love of it and all they get from most angles is critisism.
Finally I agree the title of this thread wasnt good. But I don't really see anything wrong with the thread. It's just as some have said a difference of opinions on things. Life would be very boring without differences and like Mike (I think) said, we all want success for Bat III.
Sorry to go on, but just lately reading stuff over and over and seeing so many agendas all over the place has really got to me. I'm even wondering what the point of all this is.
Deb
Fine. Here we go again ... nice example btw. why I don't want any comments on moderator decisions in public.
A threat? Why should I do that? For your information, i was merely trying to point out that the thread in question was a lock candidate because the combination of the negative thread title, the jerk, dried shit and some other comments is rather explosive mixture. So, rather than posting a simple ibtl (in-before-the-lock) message, I decide to leave the thread untouched and do a slight edit of the title. Right, Stalin strikes again. :wtf:
Please note: This post should be at the start of this thread, but I can't manage that without messing with the database. To make this perfectly clear, this thread is a split of the former "Bat 3 done with it already?" thread. Although icwuke appears as the thread starter, it was named and started by me.
Now, flame away.
As Caryl says R. is the webmaster, but just because he is doesn't always make him or anyone else right all the time.
If R. asked you to stand on your head on the carriageway of the M1 at Sheffield would you do it ? ... now I'm really afraid of the response that will elicit lol.
Mike
As you know I live in Sheffield I shall assume that question is addressed at least in part to me.
It's a facile question imo and has nothing to do with the point I made. As webmaster R would have no right to ask me to do that.
However as webmaster and presumably the chief moderator, he has every right to make decisions about the site, and as a guest I am expected to abide by them. Actually it's one of the rules as far as I'm aware .. no arguing with moderators' decisions in the forum .. so some of these recent posts are out of order and in direct opposition to the TOS here.
I happen to think he was right. If you don't then I think you should have taken it up with him privately, rather than make comments here in the forum.
I was about to post this when the thread was locked. As this has been left here I'm posting it anyway. But agree with what R has said here, although I see no reason why he should be flamed, any more than anyone else here. There's nothing Stalinesque imo about his decsion to change the thread title, but something suspect about those who proclaim the thread is positive and supportive but want the title to remain so negative.

i seem to have joined a playgroup
A title change is nothing, get over it
The title sucked and was very premature.
The thread was good and the info was good but it was the title which has now been solved.
Meat has not posted on any other threads containing posts cmmenting on bat 3 failing so why has he here if not the title?
If this site was stalin-like then posts would have been deleted but it was just a poxy title, jeez (who said about toys?)
This has been a positive thread overall with a negative title, plain and simple.
p.s the 'we know you've worked hard and thanks' 'we are not getting at you' 'please dont get upset Kev' comments are just as annoying as the 'well said Meat' comments.
If the album flops then it does,Meat will probably get over it alot quicker than some on here and will scrutinise it less than others on here.

Thats quite a tiring post.
I'm not quite sure how I'm trying to make myself out as anything, I just simply pointed out for Mr. Loaf to come on here an question if someone is a fan for not kissing his arse and everything around Bat 3 is quite silly. Also that it doesn't matter what you buy, what you don't, which shows you go to, you're not really more of a fan than anyone else. You shouldn't have to kiss the guys arse to not get moaned at.
You're right, I got a free Bat 3 LP for all my work! I don't want a 'bonus' or anything like that. The website isn't even my department. I'm the manager of one of the company stores. I was already in the good books, I've introduced a few new things since starting there, this just helped prove I'm right! If your item was late, then it was nothing at all to do with me. You'd also be hard pressed to find the new single deal cheaper elsewhere. Even HMV with free P&P costs more!
These CDs/DVDs... I've heard a fair bit about them off other people. I remember seeing Carly posting something about them and how people shouldn't buy them. I think your figures are off, it was more like £12,000
I think thats enough for that!
The mods have a job to do, and of course Mr Loaf needs to be kept happy. We need him to come here and give us bits of inside information and gossip.
I thought the title was very fitting, and both the title and I have been proved right, Bat 3 will be lucky if it is still in the top 40 come Sunday, which is was I was getting at in the first place. But anyway...

You don't have to make a point of not kissing his arse either. Some of us manage to do neither very well thank you .
I dont think he was saying who is a fan and who isnt just that the thread was created too early(which many people stated long before he posted). Yes you are in the music business but so is he, you have sales figures to go on, he has sales figures and the knowledge of what he's doing about it.
You may think it's tiring. I dont.
Don't insult my intellegence yet again by making out you know nothing about the ebay stuff.
Apart from this thread you've dropped other comments in a few others in a similar way. One that stands out was a comment along the lines of... I deserve a m&g for all my hard work
You may think it's all about keeping Mr Loaf happy so we get inside info and gossip. But i'm sure that isn't what the mods or many of us feel. I'm sure the mods here do it out of respect for a man they admire and a man that they give up their spare time for tirelessly do this site. And for what. To get comments like your Stalin one back at them.
Deb summed it up perfectly for me - I feel increasingly sorry for R, Diane, AndyK etc who have to deal with this place, as Anji said, it's a playground.
On a public forum of over 2000 members you cannot expect everyone to get along and agree with everything the other says, the world would be a boring place if we did, but the attitude of some people towards those who disagree with them stinks. And I include Meat's posts in that too.
We are extremely fortunate that as a fanclub, the guy in question posts here and willingly shares opinions and information, and I for one am extremely grateful that I'm able to be part of a forum where I can receive direct information from someone I admire and respect so much...but that doesn't mean I have to agree with everything he says, and just because he does mean a lot to me I certainly wouldn't dive down the throat of anyone who dares to disagree and "go against" him.
As for "Stalin strikes again" well that's yet another prime example of the childish attitudes on what I thought was an adult-majoriy forum.
I think some people need to take a seriously take a reality check and put some things in perspective before they kick off.

Ok so Meat was unhappy with the title. It's because of him were all here and if he dosen't like something then fine i will always respect his feeling's.
I have to say i posted on the thread and having looked back there wasn't anything on there that was disrespectful of meat or the album.
The title was harsh it has been changed so what i don't see why it has upset so many people.
I think everyone is entitled to state there opinion as long as it dosen't offend anyone, on this occasion it offended Meat.
At the end of the day Meat popping in and making the odd post makes this site great and wouldn't be the same without that.

Meat Loaf is not God!
He is a great artist, definitely, but nothing more!
Why are we all acting like we´re in 18th century france and he´s Louis XIV?
One of the most important things on such forums IS the arguing and discussiong to develop new opinions and points of view, and that, without childish behaviour, from whoever it comes, members, mods, meat, etc.

I found this site while looking for help after a Meat Loaf gig and I've
had nothing but help from many people here, (just 2 days ago I had
2 members offering help after one of my posts). The people are friendly,
and helpful, and generous, and humourous. Yes, some people don't
get on at times but that can make for some interesting (and fun) threads
but the overall feeling I get from mlukfc is very positive.
That's the main reason I stayed.
One of the others was that Meat visits and posts here. I love that he's
able to be so close and in touch with his fans and I think that, if Meat
finds something OTT (which I thought the title in question was) the mods
SHOULD use their best judgement.
R did this and, as he said, he didn't lock the thread because the content
was an excellent ongoing discussion and debate about BAT III.
So let's continue the quality discussions and give the mods. little to do
except the chance to be moderate.
I thought Stalin was dead???

Well, it's reassuring to see people acknowleding that the team here do have a tricky job at times balancing everything, so thanks for that support guys. It's not always easy and often the grief often far outweighs the enjoyment, both online and in the real world sometimes.
End of the day we're all here for the same reason (or at least I hope so anyway). So, what if a thread title got edited? It's not as if we've sent a batch of forum members out to Iraq is it? A sense of perspective and reality needs to be regained by some.

So, what if a thread title got edited?
Actually it matters a lot.
The title of the thread in question had been the same for a couple of weeks without change from the mods or without question by some members, not until Meat posted in it. If the title of the thread bothered people that much and not the content in it then they should have spoken up a lot sooner and not wait till the big guy posted in it.

Frankly I am astounded that this discussion is taking palce. It seems like an awful long time coming, as every other time this discussion has arisen it has not been moved and replanted elsewhere, it's just been deleted and people BANNED.
Long time members too. Just for suggesting that the way people flock around here catering to little Meat Loaf soundbites is rediculous. If you wanna write CHSIB after every thing meat says and after every time someone says how sexy Meat Loaf is in that HI-RES photo that some dweeb who knows nothing about bandwidth posted then it isn't a discussion at all.
And ever since the Mods at this place put catering to Meat Loaf popping in every five months or so, posting six mildly ill-informed lines and then disappearing again instead of catering to the governing of discussion by the members this place ceased to be a proper discussion board.
Don't get me wrong, I've come to take this place for what it is and not to expect any different from that which it offers. But for actual discussion of facts or, shock, OPINIONS this just is NOT the place to do it -- end of story.
Ironically this place has more members now than it ever did when I used to linger round trying to talk about the rumours of the mythical bat 3 that might come out after Testify was released, in the days before rolling out the red carpet for meat wasn't the highest priority. So hell this sort of place obviously floats SOMEBODY's boats.
Basically, it as an attention getting thread title. It had what, 5 pages of responses that didn't consist solely of "CHSIB" and "right you are" and "agreed". Very refreshing.
Gosh, it was nearly... a discussion. Imagine that.
Then Meat interprets it (incorrectly) as an attack, has a hissy fit, and all of a sudden, half of the participants of the discussion protest about the title. The very same title that intrigued them enough to enter the thread and share their opinions in the first place.
Frankly, a thread title needs to be interesting to get people to read it, let alone reply. "Chart position and discussion" is not as thrilling as "Bat III: flying or crash landing?" to me.
So there. :-P
I still don't think there was anything wrong with the title and I'm not overly arsed about the subject being edited. The first comment was more tongue in cheek rather than an 'attack' at R. It was a bit gay, but nothing to lose sleep over.
Meats sulk did split the topic into another discussion and I think they were right to make a new topic.
It is annoying how many members suddlenly jump to the 'defence' of Mr. Loaf, when there was nothing really much to defend in the first place. He had a sulk (clearly without reading all 8 pages first) and decided that we all hate him and he's taking his ball elsewhere.
I've nothing but respect for Meat as an artist etc, but he does seem to give us more stick than anything else on here. I know he thanks us etc and its really cool that he takes the time to post here and that is appreciated.
You don't get that elsewhere, I don't think for a second you'd get Robbie on his forum or anyone else and I supposed a certain degree of bum licking is needed to keep that happening.
The good thing is, the mods have let this discussion run AND it's staying here, not spilling over into other topics.
As for "Stalin strikes again" well that's yet another prime example of the childish attitudes on what I thought was an adult-majoriy forum.
Only just seen this one, could I please point you to...

Could you explain this paragraph please Deb. Please understand that I'm not trying to be provocative with you but I've recently resigned from the MLUKFC Management Team (effective 21 November 2006) and was unaware up to that date that Meat to quote you "tells them he he won't visit the site and will not give them things if they don't censor people".
I'm very surprised and disappointed if this is the case because it was never discussed with me!
Is this really true? Do you know something I didn't up to 21 November? Is this why people's posts are being censored/edited and a new infraction system introduced?
Mike
Fair play Kev, I misread R's post, my apologies.
Mike that was my interpretation of what Meat said in the thread this one got split from. Nothing more or nothing less. It just saved me going back and looking for it amongst all the other posts thats all. Or maybe I should of said like some others have 'Meat threatened to take his ball home. I just didn't want to have to put it quite like that. As I do see it slightly deeper than that on Meats part and after all he is only human like all of us.
Just went and found it to avoid confusion...
Meat said he was trying to work some stuff out for the tour... (IE the give them things)
Then... I keep saying I wont come back..... (IE Meat says he wont visit the site. I've read words to this effect on more than just this occasion I'm sure)
Deb
Is this why people's posts are being censored/edited and a new infraction system introduced?
No, and you know that Mike.
And anything that Meat was thinking, was as far as I'm aware just his thoughts ... if he's wanting to work something out for the tour with this site, then great, but at the moment no one knows what (if anything) that is

What the staff do here, they do for the love of the loaf.
I'm sure the rest of the staff, like me, look at this as a way of giving something back to an artist who has given us much.
To tell the truth, moderation can be a real pain in the backside at times  and sometimes the forum seems more like work than anything else, but by and large it's still a place I like to come to and talk to people with a common interest.
One of the others was that Meat visits and posts here. I love that he's

I agree with Mick.
It IS pretty special that an artist visits a fan site that is dedicated to him.
OK, this puts an extra load on the moderators, but it's well worth it.
After all, would you wish to visit your own fan club to be told you suck? :wtf:
So we DO need to take Meat into certain consideration at times, however I do feel it's neccersary to point out that Meat is in no way involved in the moderation process of this site.
He has no moderation powers, no say in how the site is run, and is not consulted over any moderation points on the forum.
All we can do as mods is to try to make this site a respectful and welcoming place for the artist, and for the fans.

I'd like to get back on topic mainly cause i could never see either myself or my gorgeous girlfriend in a green wedding dress but anyway...
I've read Meat's posts here before, i've sent a couple of private messages to Meat before and he's been nice enough to respond, not with much but then again i never expect a 25 page essay detailing every point of my questions to him.
To me this isn't about who takes whose side or who sells what on ebay...cause if people werent willing to sell things in the first place ebay wouldnt exists...but i digress.
Some of Meat Loaf's post appear to me that he doesn't read the full thread, now maybe i'm not giving him full credit where credit is due here but i read through some of his posts from about 3 years ago where he went on a full scale rant against someone who complained about a show he did and how there were people leaving early.
I've no problem with people defending themselves, if they stick to the topic, i've never come on here to call someone a moron or worse and i wouldn't expect to be called that for whatever belief i have or worse being censored for a belief I have.
I think R said if you don't like it don't read it, but at the same time a one sided everything has to be positive or else agenda doesn't work either. I want a balance when i read a topic like this, i want to be able to read both sides...why someone thinks a song isn't very good or why someone thinks the same song is great.I want to read that and by psoting here for as long as i have i'm looking to have my belief respected...not neccessarily agreed with...
The point is you don't have to agree with anyone here, but at the same time don't force anyone into a case of 'your way or the highway' and I include everyone in that.
If it's such a hard job to monitor posts here then maybe it shouldn't be monitored until it reaches a point where it goes over the line of decency? Maybe it has on numerous occasions...i don't know and i'm assuming others that post here don't know either.
Editing titles of posts just seems like one step towards propaganda...so maybe all sides need to think about things

I think Mike is fairlyaccurate in his post
There are many people on this site who sit on one side or the other and both sides jump down someones throat when something that is at the end of the day all opinion is said. There doesn't seem to be a place here for the objective fan.
I also have read meat's previous posts and he does seem to lose it very quickly over just one or two posts. Would i be the same if i had spent ages working on something then when i offer it out to be told that it has died a death in such a short time, react in the same way? maybe! i dont know.
many posts are too extreme from the we love everything meat does to the that sucked posts, neither interest me at all.
Informed opinions are fine, this has all been blown totally out of proportion beyond belief by Meat himself and a few others who chose to carry it on instead of just accept a dumb title change.
I wasnt gonna come on site cos of all this, i used to enjo coming here for a break from my life, as someone correctly said to me in chat last night, we can get stuck into real life if we want whinging, whining, crying and moaning!
I did evidently come on today and was so relieved to see normal topics show when i clicked new posts. Such as te threads containing OPINIONS good and bad about the 3rd single and other songs, also the fecking Lapod discussion here, it may have been ot but christ we needed it to break the damn cycle!!
Can't we just draw a line under this otherwise it'll turn into a bloody war again!!!
I'm also failing to see here how it's ok for a mod to go so far off topic and actually take that attitude to it  Not that i'm against going off topic, as I'm one of the main offenders, BUT Mouse you of all Mods enforce that rule :?
I'm also finding myself agreeing with Bohemian  I dont think he deserved the response he got. As he said he did say he accepts the rules and has debates elsewhere (Don't quote me on the exact wording as I can't be arsed to go back and find it through all the lime green ipods and wedding dress talk :-P )
Deb
I was here for the porn and I'm still waiting
Actually it matters a lot.
The title of the thread in question had been the same for a couple of weeks without change from the mods or without question by some members, not until Meat posted in it. If the title of the thread bothered people that much and not the content in it then they should have spoken up a lot sooner and not wait till the big guy posted in it.
It's easy to be a sheep but not a shepherd;) C'mon bring on the funnies

True, the thread was around for a while. I didn't like the title then, so I wanted to see how it develops. I forgot about it and stumbled over it just by coincidence.
I still don't think there was anything wrong with the title and I'm not overly arsed about the subject being edited. The first comment was more tongue in cheek rather than an 'attack' at R. It was a bit gay, but nothing to lose sleep over.
The good thing is, the mods have let this discussion run AND it's staying here, not spilling over into other topics.True. I'm changing this thread's subject to something less provocative.
Edit: Name change from Stalin strikes again to Thread name change discussion done.
Well someone seems to know things I didn't Andy! No.
Some of Meat Loaf's post appear to me that he doesn't read the full threadThat's my impression too. But that's not him alone, a lot of our guests clearly read threads completely

We don't seem to be able to please anyone, and god forbid we should have any feelings/opinions ourselves on any subject more controversial than the one word story thread.
And what responce?
If you don't like a site, you don't go to it.
Is that such a nasty thing to say?
Does that constitute "all guns blazing"?
Because if it does, i'm in deep crap because i'm next on George Bush's wants list.
Yes we have rules, yes we try to enforce those rules in a way that is fair to everyone, but at the end of the day we are a bunch of nazis on a forum run by Stalin (to borrow R's phrase).

I wouldn't worry that much about going off topic. I mean, yes - it's listed as an infraction worth 5 points with 10 days. But does that really hurt, or remove privileges? No. You would have to do that in a much higher frequency or on purpose like declaring that this thread is now about sharks, like 3 times in a row. It should serve as a reminder, that's it.

Hmm, after reading this all, I'm slightly bored... (not aimed at you Deb you're just the best one to reply to) The original topic was being discussed and then a select few come and post well erm rubbish. I know I can post rubbish at times but if I don't have anything to add to the thread then I won't... This is partly what my gripe was about the Infraction system this was a thread that should have stayed on topic and it went totally off and were there any infraction points handed out?
Neil, there are a load of us that are sick of it, but when other people complain they are told don't go there then or don't reply. See and don't see kind of thing. To me just because you're sick of it isn't a excuse to help lead a topic off topic.
Going back to the main topic, I don't really see the big issue with the name change, it hasn't changed the topic itself, what difference does a name make? A lot to some, not a lot to others... Life goes on.

To be fair Neil (sorry, can't be bothered for finding the post to quote it ), I've gotta agree with Deb in regards the comment about you being off topic, because of all the mods on here it's generally you that enforces staying on topic, and "being annoyed" is surely no reason to "hijack" a thread with wedding dresses...if this infraction system's going to work it's gotta be one rule for everyone.
I hate to say it but I can see a lot of members here going the same way as they did with another ML forum - the name of which shall remain nameless - and just leaving, because I for one am sick of reading the utter crap that's appearing on here.
