Good to find someone with excellent taste! ;) Seafood isn't cheap here but luckily we have friends who go out fishing so we often get given mackeral, pollock and if we're really lucky sea bass.
I probably would have LOVED it there...sounds like Paradise...
Like everywhere it has its plus and minuses. It is a very beautiful island. If you've ever seen the cliffs in California between LA & San Fransisco, then that's exactly what our south coast looks like, so that's stunning. We also have one of the most beautiful harbours in the world. Like most islands the natives are extremely friendly and the crime rate is very low.
The main industry is finance. We have many of the world's leading merchant banks based here and the economy is strong.
The downside is the cost of living which is very high. Travel to and from the island can be very expensive. Worst of all are property prices which are through the roof. An average 3 bedroom house would set you back £350,000 ($700,000), so young couples trying to get their foot on the property ladder really have my sympathy! It's the price you pay on a small island where land is at a premium.

Yorkshire Puddings?!! Not with chicken!
my thoughts exactly about the bread sauce lol
Yorkshire Puddings?!! Not with chicken!
Yorkshire Puddings can be served with any roast! Preferably as a starter with any leftovers (not that I've ever seen any leftover yorkies!) being served as dessert!
Bread Sauce however can only be served with chicken and is a food of the gods!!
Yorkshire Puddings can be served with any roast! Preferably as a starter with any leftovers (not that I've ever seen any leftover yorkies!) being served as dessert!
It was a regular thing to find my Mum in the kitchen after Sunday lunch finishing off the Yorkshire puddings having covered them in golden syrup
Bread Sauce however can only be served with chicken and is a food of the gods!!
Which Gods? :? It was just about edible, that's as complimentary as I get about bread sauce.

...jellied eels (which I can only describe as snot in a bucket).
My ex-parents in law were Londoners who moved away to one of the overspill towns, and they'd go back every now and then to one of the traditional pie and mash shops and come back with a load of pie, mash, liquor and jellied eels. I once saw a mate try them, he grabbed one out of the pot that was enormous, and shoved it all in at once... and literally turned green from the toes up, in one continuous movement....
I'm not eating at the moment, having just finished an enormous fry-up - a great relief after a week in Estonia - but I am having a glass or three of lovely chilled rose wine...

OK My first post this year and of course it has to do with food.
Ive just finished eating a Arnotts Mint Slice Cornetto Icecream mmmmm
I havent had anything bad for ages - Just dropped hubby off at the airport he is off to Perth for a conference. We get to join him on Friday night but I have to drive the 8 hours to Perth. Thought I would treat myself while he wasnt around ROFL
Hope that everyone is keeping well. It is going to take me all week to catch up with everything that I have missed over the past 7 months.
Back to reading.

Just had a lovely corned beef and spicy coleslaw sandwich, followed by a slice of chocolate caramel shortbread...
A very tasty bierwurst & salad sandwich, a bowl of fresh fruit salad, all washed down with a diet coke.
Thanks...Brits come up with the most outrageous names for their food...
We do and Spotted Dick, (which is not a nasty disease!) has to be the funniest.
You also have your fair share of bizarre names too: Twinkies, Mississippi Mud Pie, Buffalo Wings & Scrapple to name a few.
:lmao:

Forgot the Spotted Dick thing...:lmao:
Yeah, the above American names are perfectly fine.
1. Twinkie put a twinkle in your eye.
2. Mississippi Mud pie is made from Mississppi Mud
3. And Buffalo wings are, of course, nothing else but 100% natural buffalo wings...
Can't say anything about Scrapple cause never heard of it...
I came across Scrapple in a DC deli several years ago when shopping with my sister-in-law. Quickly decided on something else for my lunch when she explained what it was! Here's the full description (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrapple).
Diane
I live in NJ and never heard of it...I wouldn't eat it either even if I did...but at least it's clear where it got it's name...it's made out of scraps...
Exactly Zina .... and very unappertising ones at that!
