Just as White of High did with the studio reviews, i'm starting the Live Reveiws.

NOTE: please voice your opinion on the over-all best BOOH live version and how it ranks in performance grade over the years. Make whatever recordings you talk about OFFICIAL. I don't want to get in trouble if that happens. Thank you

My rating:

1970's - early 1990's concerts : 9.5 / 10
1990's - present : 8.5 / 10

To me the lack of the second verse with "My body is shaking like a wave in the water" in his more resent live releases isn't the better choice Meat has made and sunk its second part grade way down.

Over all , the best live version of Took the Words is on the 'Meat Loaf - Live" VHS in 1981. I love how it then hops into dead ringer seconds afterwards.

I think this song was at its best during the Bat 1 tour. It was never as good when Meat turned it into more of a ballad. I think the only official release was on the Live At My Father's Place promo LP, but there are much better versions!

It was only ever really turned into a ballad style song 1996 onwards really, during the 1980's was best for me though, especially the version on the first release Rock'n'Roll Hero CD. :D

I thought the live performance on the current tour was more rocking than the mid90s-present ones. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. A bit shorter, harder and no stopping the song in the middle made it more effective than usual. Good to see Steinman on screen at the start as well.
Saying that I do really like the version on the Live at Wembley in 87 CD. But seeing it in Glasgow a fw days ago comes in second.
