Par is the number of shots that you "should take" to complete a hole or a couse... so a par 4 hole should take you 4 shots. getting the ball in the hole in 3 shots would then be one under par

the first score is how many under par they are on that round, the second is how many under par they are on the whole competition (ie yesterday and today's score)
