some amount of stupid ~~~~ers on the roads today....the person going through the red light accross in front of me at the roundabout i can understand... why they then slowed from 50mph to 25mph (at the end of the slip road) to join the motorway really annoyed me

if its just blown a hole the hole can be repaired by either welding or brazing... again, not expensive.
the catalyst lives under the car usually so i reckon it aint it

Wow thanks Jonty! Errm...the section of exhaust that's got the gaping hole in it is section closest to the engine (the other two bits are new, there'd've been complaints if they'd gone too!)

Car is a Peugeot 106... I think the sensor type thing is to do with how much petrol is allowed in the exhaust but that's just a guess to be honest. It looks like a pipe type thing and WAS attached to the thing the exhaust attaches to, that could well be a manifold, but I've been googling for a picci of one and can't find anything that looks like the bit in my car!

Going to take it to the garage first thing tomorrow, but I feel a bit better after what you said now, thank you! :-)

ps - it's not a turbo, it's only 1.1 litre. although at the moment it sounds like it's been modified to considerable tune!

On the other hand when it comes to cars, I am less than coherent! Hate not understanding what's under the bonnet :-(

Sounds like you've talking to my mum. She does that all the time too. Lol

duke knooby 27 Jul 2008 20:09

if the lamda sensor is missing you're gonna need one.. they're pretty cheap (need one myself for a 106) if the sensor is there, and its just a hole, you could just get it repaired (small patch welded on)
as long as the lamda is in place you wont do any damage to the car, it'll just sound really LOUD!!!! A dodgy quick temporary repair if the hole isn't too big is to fold over loads of tinfoil, wrap it around the pipe, over the hole, and secure with some hose clips

I never open the bonnet...I am afraid to know what is inside...so I think you're much more ahead of me...a couple of years ago I've decided to become a techno idiot...and I proudly continue being one...
