Was certainly disappointing for a Speilberg movie, Cruise's character got weaker as the film went on. As for the ending, you can't really do a lot to tha story can you? Aliens invade earth, wipe out billions of people, then catch a cold and die ...

My 2 fav scenes are.. at the first, what he says about his sister, and her trophy. :)
2nd.. at the dinningroom table "in my country, the men would like you and you.. " :) Actually most of that dinningroom segmant is very funny.

Not a movie for people who are easily offended though.

Just saw "Hannibal Rising". A really good movie, if you liked the other movies in this series. It also explains in the first 15-20mins, the horrific thing that happens to Hannibal as a child, that leads him to become, what he is, as an adult.
I'd rate it a 8/10.

You're welcome, Monstro. :D

There's lots.. of action in "Hannibal Rising", not at all boring like "Red Dragon". Although, RD's ending pretty much made up for the rest of that film.

The Hannibal series is a typical series which sould have been left to the first, or maybe the second one. Silence of the Lambs is one of the best films ever IMO, Hannibal wasnt that good, and I dont wanna talk about Red Dragon....
Iīm curious about the new one, though I dont expect too much...

AndyK 11 Feb 2007 12:43

I think Hannibal Rising is going to be one to see, from what I've seen and heard of it it's better than Hannibal.

LucyK! 11 Feb 2007 13:01

It wants to be, Hannibal was awful

mszee 11 Feb 2007 13:44

I think the only one decent out of these series was Silence of the Lambs...and so was a book...

LucyK! 11 Feb 2007 13:51

ANd I found Hannibal not just disgusting...but ridiculous...

LucyK! 11 Feb 2007 14:08

I saw it years ago (not having seen Silence Of The Lambs) so I expected a film to match the hype that went with it...sadly not, I was just bored

AndyK 11 Feb 2007 14:11

Bought the book when it came out, and made the mistake of reading that before seeing the film, the book isn't a patch on Silence Of The Lambs, but it's still far better than the film adaptation.

Ahhhh...if you've seen or read Silence...reading and watching Hannibal was far from boring...I remember myself foaming at the mouth...

Lord Kagan 11 Feb 2007 16:35

Family Guy season 5

RadioMaster 11 Feb 2007 17:35

I think Silence of the Lambs was really outstanding, and Hannibal not bad...as the movies consist of so many different styles, as thriller, horror, psycho-thriller, criminal story, etc, the personal opinion is a matter of the favourite style.

Always wanted to reed the books though...

LucyK! 11 Feb 2007 17:42

I'd be interested to read the book - I guess it's the "rule" that the books are always better than the films... although in saying that I was extremely disappointed when I read The Shawshank Redemption, that didn't even come close to the film

Well, if you think Hannibal is not bad...how is it then that Clarice's character is turned around 180 degrees and made into something she has never been??? But maybe it's clearer from the books...

Betty 11 Feb 2007 17:43

Just saw "Stand by me"
Havenīt seen it in a while, so it reminded me again how good it actually is.

I like all three of the Lector movies, but Silence of the lamps is really the most outstanding one! Great movie!!!
@ RJ: Itīs on German television on 25. Feb ;)

AndyK 11 Feb 2007 17:47

I used to have the book of Hannibal, but just looked on my shelves and it's gone :? Might have to hunt it down to reread it. Do remember from the film that the Clarice characterisation didn't follow on from Silence, but some of that could have been the fact that Jodie Foster and her accent weren't in the follow up...

I don't judge by the movie...but the book...what author has done to Clarice is just plain disgusting...and doesn't follow at all...that's what really turned me off...PLUS...dining on somebody's brains is just...ummm...a little sick...

RadioMaster 11 Feb 2007 18:13

Well, I can judge just from the movies...
But Jodie Foster is just a completely different actress than Julianne Moore, and the difference in Clarice's character are a matter of their different interpretation of the figure.

Really should get the book(s)

Anyone knows the original to Red Dragon, without Anthony Hopkins, from end 80s-ish?

Well...Julianne Moore took the part after Jodie Foster categorically refused to play in a movie after reading what happened to the character of Clarice from the script...

Yeah, I've seen the movie and I read the book...Silence of the Lambs is still the best...although Red Dragon is better than Hannibal

RadioMaster 11 Feb 2007 18:23

I dont know the original to Red Dragon (I think it was called Manhunters or similar), but I think that Hannibal is MUCH better than Red Dragon.

I do, it was on tv in the UK the other night, called Manhunter, and stars William Petersen (Grissom from CSI) as Will Graham and Brian Cox as Hannibal - the re-make was pretty true to the original script, which was also pretty true to the book, but I have to say I prefer the re-make to the original - there's something about Ralph Fiennes in this role for me!

I have all three of the books, Red Dragon, Silence and Hannibal, but I'm not sure I'll bother to get Hannibal Rising as I've heard you can really tell it's been written with the filming of it in mind.

Last film I watched? How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days - just right for a Valentine's Day on my own...

Jeanie 12 Feb 2007 04:18

I some how missed the movie "Hannibal".. don't know how that happened? Can anyone tell me what it was about regarding the story?

Out of the 3 I've seen, I thought SOTL is definitely the best, and story wise, Hannibal Rising is my 2nd fav. Since it takes you back, and shows you how an innocent child, who lives through some horrifying events, causes his mind to snap, and then turns into a monster.
