Not a movie, I know, but I watched all of the C series of QI yesterday... Have The Salton Sea planned for later...

I watched the Da Vinci Code the other day, I think I'm the last person on the planet to see it. Found it very interesting, and certainly got me thinking, imagine if it were true!!!!

I adore The Da Vinci Code (though yet another example of the book kicking the film's ass!) and I've got to say, without starting a religious debate, I found the story and theories more believeable than I did every piece of religious education I was taught in 12 years of school!

Angels and Demons is supposedly in the making too, can't wait to see it but there's no way they'll be able to capture the book in a feature length film

I haven't seen it yet. :D

AVP followed by AVP2 (made bubbles sit through both of them)

I thought the idea of making it into some kind of teen horror/disaster movie was kinda strange, though you have to give the filmmakers credit for not trying to copy AVP.

AVP3 is supposed to be much better...we'll see...

Book is MUCH better than movie...I think they removed some important parts and miscast Tom Hanks...

And as to the book Angels and Demons...I found it to be sloppy seconds...

Even though it was written three years before The Da Vinci Code?

Yep...couldn't you tell that the same research was used for both and A&D was written just to make some quick buck to support himself for Code?

AndyK 01 Oct 2008 15:28

At least some research and accuracy was used, unlike his earlier two efforts.

SamCat 01 Oct 2008 15:35

I preferred Angels and Demons I loved the Da Vinci Code film and i cant wait for the new film i might even drag myself to the cinema for it lol!!

Oh my god...it's all ridiculous except for the Code...did you read something about some electronic bugs or something? i already forgot what it was it was SO stupid...

AndyK 01 Oct 2008 15:48

As works of fiction they're very good for that genre, certainly far better than many others on the ookshelves.. His books have improved in content and subject matter, and I'm sure the next one will be a good read when he gets it finished.

Honestly I've read all of his books and nothing came close to the Code...that is a very interesting and thought provoking book...spent hours and hours discussing it...hopefully he wrote earlier on just to support himself...much like Pillars of the Earth was the only book Follet ever wanted to write and yet he has written bunch of decent books in completely different genre...

Mozart and Masons??? Hmmm...not that I can see the connection off the top of my head...but still sounds interesting...I hope he doesn't spin another yarn about Mozart being poisoned or killed in any other way...expertise was done and it showed that it was tuberculosis (sp?)...

AndyK 01 Oct 2008 15:58

I think it's as much a case of hitting the right subject matter at the right time and hence getting a decent amount of press exposure and public interest in a book written when the authoers writing style has matured. I think he'd probably earned enough from the previous books to enable enough time and money to be spent on the research of the latter.

The Solomon Key is the working title of an unreleased novel currently in progress by Dan Brown, author of several novels, most prominently Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code. According to current information, The Solomon Key will be the third book involving the fictional Robert Langdon, a Harvard University professor. No release date has been announced.

This according to Wikipedia...didn't we have a reading thread somewhere here???

Solomon Key...NOW...that is MUCH more interesting subject...

I heard a little different ...

Next one "The Solomon Key" is supposed to be about the freemasons in and around Washington and is supposed to feature the Yale secret society which G W Bush was a member of .. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skull_and_Bones (although we all know how accurate this can be )

A future book is rumoured to feature Mozart's association with the masons.

mszee 01 Oct 2008 16:05

Don't think Mozart had much time or inclination to be involved with anybody/anything but his music...and I won't read anything about Bush...had enough already...

Who knows? It was a different society back then...I'll certainly would be interested in reading about it...

the thing that annoyed me the most about the da vinci code film was that they sucked all the chemistry that the two main characters have in the book, there's a spark going throughout and the film just ignores this...also i didn't think Hanks was the greatest of choices...maybe if they would have had some chemistry between the characters it would have worked better

Second this

RadioMaster 01 Oct 2008 18:00

I personally thought Angles & Demons was better than the da vinci code. The code was way overhyped IMO.
Could be a little biased though, as I've read A&D while being on holiday in Rome...

His other two books I found rather mediocre...Had a bit of a feeling he was telling the same story over and over again...
