It's Dinner really. But I got so tired of explaining to people that dinner is an evening meal not a midday one (that's lunch) unless it's the main meal of the day, I switched to the good old northener term of calling the evening meal tea. actually tea is something consumed mid-afternoon and usually by posh elderly people who have nothing better to do.

I know...I am just pulling your leg...I liked it when on Irish forum somebody mentioned chips in their post to me and then went on to explain the difference between fries and chips and all that jazz...well, I've been around now too long...funny thing is...recently I've read a book by British writer which I've read last time a long time ago...and as I was reading it I was scratching my head and thinking...how the heck did I understand this before (lots of local slang)...I probably didn't...

I just figured out what being toothless is good for...losing weight...yeah, I do have too much time today in between things I have to do...

~Helen~ 16 Aug 2008 19:42

i wasn't explaining for your sake - your old and toothless post proved you were already with me on the tea definition ;) i was explaining to prove I know ;)

talking of losing weight, that's something i'll be doing if I don't eat. any suggestions?

It's the same...fries - American, chips - British...

~Helen~ 16 Aug 2008 19:48

so err when does it stop being known as potato and become chips? are they chips before they are fried? or do they become chips following the frying?

duke knooby 16 Aug 2008 19:51

they become chips when you cut them into chips

That is true...and I could guarantee you I would have done well anywhere...it's nothing to do with being immigrant or not...it's something to do with being educated, hard working and somewhat ambitious...

On the other hand...I will be VERY near you in December...for a full week!!!

the comment and question are separate btw... i'm not suggesting we're more likely to know people on it because the entries are painful... but I am curious if anyone from here is on it or indeed knows someone on it...
