RadioMaster 20 Sep 2007 22:19

its used in an adjective not adverbial way.
you could say:
ein bier ist gross
but you have to say
ein grosses bier

it's the best way to split the time depending on earth rotation/revolution. 1 day is 1/365,25 of one revolution cycle, 1 hour is 1/24 of the rotation cycle, and so on

but why 1/24 and so on

RadioMaster 21 Sep 2007 14:56

cause its the best (or the only?) way to split it up in a way that the minutes/seconds make sense. Otherwise an hour would have 85,934 minutes, etc. and a minute had 52,94654 seconds. Of course, they could have gone with 12 hours (each lasting 120 minutes), and so on, but I guess this is the least complicated and easiest calculatable way.

They show it here and, in fact, it goes years back...but I've tried a few times and I am just not getting it...

RadioMaster 21 Sep 2007 16:15

it is strange, we dont have anything like it over here.
All (well most) of the German tv series are.....crap. The interesting stuff is always coming from the US. And now I discovered that theres this huge hype in the UK about it. We dont have anything comparable. Something completely different.

British and Americans have been "exchanging" shows and actors for years...chances are if you're watching American show there is another one like that on British TV...and vice versa...mostly Americans "borrow" from British or the same producers develop American show...something like that.

We have channels that show a lot of British TV...and specialized series like Dr. Who are running on specialized channels - like Sci-Fi channel...

one thing important to everyone:
When you expect your computer to crash, be sure there is absolutely no Chris DeBurgh song running on your media player.
The last ten minutes I had to listen to about 500 "Lady in Rr-Lady in Rr-Lady in Rr-Lady in Rr-Lady in Rr-Lady in Rr-Lady in Rr"'s

Monstro 21 Sep 2007 22:30

I would imagine that the majority of people would not have Chris DeBurgh on their media player lol
