Watched loads of new ones lately...

Hot Fuzz which was hilarious, much better than I expected

Music and Lyrics which was also great, but then how could a couple of hours of Hugh Grant be bad!? :p

Last night we saw The Holiday, which was a bit more of a Chick Flick than we expected but enjoyed it all the same...lots of Awww's!

Sue K 27 Jun 2007 12:41

... still Ninth Gate...

Cpl Mickey 27 Jun 2007 17:17

As long as you like graphic violence then i'm sure you'll enjoy it!

AndyK 28 Jun 2007 11:21

The Pleasure Drivers ...

According to the cover it's a sex filled, action packed adventure featuring Meat Loaf ... so you'd think it had something for everyone ... you'd think wrong. Weak story, little sex, little action and Meat Loaf has one of the weakest death scenes he's ever acted. Poor.

LucyK! 28 Jun 2007 11:26

LOL I've just written my review in LCA! :p

That's a measure of how bad the film was - I didn't even realise that Meat had died  This is coming from the girl who goes into shock watching his death scenes!

The action is awful, the sex is blink and you'll miss it and my ass could have done a better job that the other actors!

AndyK 28 Jun 2007 11:29

And I'd have preferred to watch it too ;-)

Sue K 28 Jun 2007 12:05

... POTC... the first one ... how sweet of the love of my life !... i had NO idea it was to be on telly last night... and as i walked into the house at 8:35pm from a long day at work?... there was Elizabeth being chased about by PIRATES !... the love of my life had left the telly on and gone to bed... left it on to POTC so i'd see it as i walked in the door... bless his heart ! ...

LucyK! 03 Jul 2007 11:56

Claire don't do it!!!! :yikes:

Hostel 2 has much more of a story and is more psychological than the first one, the first one focuses on how they kill people rather than why, I'm not kidding I sat in the cinema watching that and I honestly felt light-headed  Truly one of the most graphic things I've ever seen, and I live near Newcastle!

RadioMaster 03 Jul 2007 13:13

 Dirty Dancing - Patrick Swayze

Not really sure if I want to see this play as I love this movie too much... !

mszee 03 Jul 2007 15:22

It is fascinating to me that most British women watch and actually like horror movies...I wonder what it means...hmmm...

LucyK! 03 Jul 2007 16:34

I like them a lot, I don't know why because I'm one of the most jumpy people you'll meet (enter Monstro to tell the tale of him creeping up on me at Manchester station! ) but there's something about them I really like...

I'm not a big fan of things like Hostel or Saw which are (to me) two hours of cutting people up for no reason, I like the psychological films that are horror in a much more clever way - I loved The Others, Red Dragon...the ones that make you think

Although to completely contradict everything I've just said I really liked the Final Destination films!

I see...well, the Others is a horror...but I think Red Dragon is more of a mystery...I like mysteries and like psychological thrillers...yeah, ok...maybe the whole Hannibal thing is psychological (or psychopath) thriller...but I really don't like basic horror movies...even if they have any kind of element of psychological...

The most scary movies are not those with blood and gore for me...I remember being terrified when I read/saw Dead Zone (Stephen King)...now...THAT is scary...the most scary movies are those that take human nature and lay it out open for you...scary...

!!!!!!!!!
Absolutley!!

That's the reason I'm a huge fan of the Shyamalan (sp?) movies, I love them, but can watch them only once or twice. It's the atmosphere that makes the horror, if the atmosphere isnt there you can add as much blood and gore as you want, it just doesnt work.

LucyK! 03 Jul 2007 16:59

RJ have you seen Lady In The Water??

(Assuming we're on about the same guy...!) I love Shyamalan (sp?)...The Sixth Sense was fantastic, and on that basis I went to see The Village at the cinema and hated it, I was completely uninterested the whole way through and really disappointed that it was one of his films, and that put me off seeing The Lady In The Water even though it's one of his...

Forgive me if I am wrong...at work and can't check...

Isn't he the one who has done Sixth Sense and something about super heros (forgot the name) one positive and one negative?

If that's the case...I've seen only those two...and really appreciated them...Sixth Sense is a below average movie made OUSTANDING by ending alone...amazing...

I haven't seen Village because I kind have a sense of what I will like or will not like...started watching The Lady In the WAter and it didn't seem watchable to me...so I didn't quite watch it all the way through...

Hypnobabe 03 Jul 2007 17:02

I agree with Zina, it's not all the blood and guts and gore that gets me, it's the psychological thrillers (well you'd expect me to be interested in the psychology of horror really, wouldn't you?) or the ones that make me jump just when I'm not expecting it...

I saw The Exorcist when I was about 18, having been told it was really scary, and I found it more entertaining watching the faces of my very naive, goody-two-shoes friends than I did watching the film!

Nothing much has changed there....

Still Ghost Rider, although I did watch American Beauty the other day too, and can't remember if I've said that one...

Talking about jump...when I was a teen...I was reading The Portrait of Dorian Grey...not enough that I was able to read it ONLY during the day...but when I wasn't reading it...I was hiding the book...sight of the book alone scared me crapless...

How was the Ghost Rider?

RadioMaster 03 Jul 2007 17:06

nope, didnt see lady in teh water, mostly because of tons of VERY bad reviews, I'm generally not paying that much attention to reviewers but this time I didnt find one single good review and so I decided to wait til it airs on TV lol.

I might be one of the few people who actually LIKED the village. I think it's one of his better movies, though many people were diappointed that the monsteres werent really monsteres.
I cant really explain why I like it, it's not the story, not the plot it's, as I said, the atmosphere of the movie.
My favourite movie of his is signs btw, although many people didnt like that one either. The scene where they're watching the mexican kids birthday video is one of my favourite 'horror' movie moments ever.

PS: I'm a huge fan of the original Village of the damned from the 60s. THAT's good horror, without any blood or gore, just because of, again, the atmospere.

mszee 03 Jul 2007 17:08

Didn't like Signs...in fact, thought it was pretty...dufus...

LucyK! 03 Jul 2007 17:50

It seemed to me as though the guy did The Sixth Sense then went completely off the boil with Signs, The Village, Lady In The Water...it's a shame, if they'd all been like his first one I'd have loved them

I thought the second movie - Unbreakable...finally looked it up...wasn't bad at all...after that it seems that it all went down the hill...

Yeah...I guess I have to admit that Rent is worse...

... put on your computer chair safety belts... IT WASN'T PIRATES 2 or any OTHER deppie film... !!!!!!!!!!! ... :faint: ... i know !... shocking right? ... lol...

it was The Illusionist... i enjoyed the acting... the storyline... what i'd call a love story mixed with not so much a "who dunnit" ... but a more "what was done" ... but... it wasn't even a GUESS... but i KNEW what was happening AS it happened... i just didn't know that the who dunnit i thought did it... didn't do what wasn't done... lol...

i'd recommend it to those who like an indie-type film with atmosphere...
