belladonna-took 25 Apr 2009 15:50

Chip was there with his friend from way back..as the support. They did a fabbo 'Stumpfy Goes to Bognor' and a tragic tale about missing Jimmi Hendrix on the Isle of Wight by minutes because said friend wanted to get on the ferry..and then Jimmi dies the following week. The song was about the grudge Chip still bears. ere's a pic of him waving the dvd which is the only way they can see Jimmi now!http://media.mlxxfc.net/DSC02181-1.JPG

Saw Steve Steinman's Bat Out Of Hell The Symphony on Friday evening, what a great show! Trying to work out if I can make it to any other dates this tour now, would've been at Perth the night before too but was at another gig (Fozzy & Forever Never) in Glasgow instead.

Yeah, it was. They put on a great show too, he's a really good entertainer! 650 capacity standing venue and I managed to get front row, had Rich (guitarist) playing while standing on the barrier on top of me a couple of times and got two high fives from Chris.
I'm also at the bottom right in this pic of them on stage at end of the gig (tweeted by Chris) :D

Tink, if you don't already have Fozzy's latest album "Chasing The Grail", I'd highly recommend you pick it up as it's the best they've ever done (in my opinion anyway!). My friends in Forever Never were pretty involved in it, their singer did some guest vocals & drum production and their guitarist did the album artwork.

Next up is The Backstreet Boys (please don't ask...I was guilted into it), Ron White & then Cowboy Mouth.

It gets even better later in the summer with Meat, Heart, Muse, Lilith Fair, Cinderella, Bonerama, Tears for Fears and Kings of Leon......and KISS!

The Gaslight Anthem at Manchester Academy last night. Fantastic! This is a band that deserve to go places!

Sue K 25 Jun 2010 13:42

... okay okay !! ... got one... hehe... SAME one... different show... i saw Peter Tork and his band Suede Shoes Blues... and WHAT a grand time i had... mind you ...okay ? ... it's not a concert but a show at a nearby club ... a very funny opening act... Matt Roach ... a guy with a guitar... who reminded me in looks and humor of Jack Black ... he sang a very funny song about being the opening act... it's on YouTube... i'll nab and post it later...

and then Peter and the band ... mind you ... i've been a fan of his since... 1966 ... ... back in the heyday i helped to run a couple chapters of his fan club... and now i go to his shows whenever possible when he's in town ... there was a time i would call and talk to him on the phone ... no worries...

and seeing him just takes me back in time ... and brings me up to current... as he plays a few Monkees' tunes... but what he really enjoys playing and is focused on is the blues ... through Peter i was introduced to the music of Bach back in 1966 ... and now ... the blues ...

but best of all ? ... he had with him cds for sale... one version which had gone out of production... i was thrilled i'd be able to purchase it to complete my little collection of Peter solo albums ... and what do you think ? ... for my long time loyalty... bless him ... he signed it with love... and wouldn't take my money !!! ... i wept a bit at his kindness... OH... and he remembered me... lol ... and there were gentle hugs and kisses ...

a fine time was had...

AndrewG 25 Jun 2010 17:58

Steve Steinman with his Bat Symphony on Wednesday in Northampton @ The Derngate. The show is an interesting take on the original MSO experience.
It's all coming back to me now by Emily Clark was fab and indeed works much better as a solo song sung by a girl. Intro to AFL was amazing with the orchestra I have to say. Alive was probably the highlight for me as Steve and the band did a great job on that and I've never heard it live. Who knows, may never hear it again! :-(
Glad Steve recognises Bat 3 is a great album and has indeed left the teddy bear hanging.

My last gig was Alice In Chains on Monday. And oh my word, they were brilliant. No special lighting/pyro/theatrics etc, just a straight up rock show but they really nailed it, took my breath away and sent shivers down my spine several times. My only complaint is that they didn't play Nutshell, my favourite AiC song. Maybe next time...

The last concert I saw was a few weeks ago, and it was Bowling For Soup in the Middlesbrough Empire. Usually pop punk isn't my type of thing but there's something about Bowling For Soup that I really like. As with the previous two times I've seen them live it was a great show, got a bit crowded with it being a small venue but still very enjoyable.

Also met them after the show for the second time, very friendly guys took time out to speak to pretty much every fan who waited.

The last concert I saw was Rush last July; they played the whole Moving Pictures album from start to finish. It was a great show, and they have several videos they show which were hysterical.

I've seen Rush before, but not for many years, so it was good to see them again. When they played Subdivisions, it occurred to me that the last time I'd heard that song live, it was new (in *cough* 1982...).

Steve6 15 Sep 2010 21:21

I've only seen him live twice, and the last time was in July 2007 in The Point. Now known as the 02. Before that was in Ardgillan Castle which was amazing. BOOH being played under the moonlight was a sight I will never forget.

Saw Nils Lofgren last night in a semi-solo acoustic show (he was accompanied by a piano/guitar and trumpet playing tap dancing friend). Whilst not the best songwriter in the world, he's up there amongst the greats as a guitarist, this is no slight on Randy at all (who is superb), but he does put him in the shade for playing I'm afraid.

After the show he spent well over an hour in the foyer of The Lowry theatre meeting fans, posing for photos and signing autographs. He may be one of the shortest men in rock and roll, but he's awesome!

He's guitarist with The E Street Band, Neil Young & Grin if you don't know who I'm on about

I certainly know of him but can't say I've sought out any of his music but it sounds like it was a good night.

I like the idea of small venues where the artist can interact with the fans before or after the show without charging a small fortune in the process.

If you do, you should seek out his live stuff rather than his studio work initially I think. He brought out an Acoustic Live album from his last tour I beleive.

LucyK! 15 Oct 2010 11:15

Amazing night with Nils! As Andy said, with no offence at all to Randy, Nils is probably the most technical guitarist you will ever see. Very different experience for me to see him without the E Street Band but he was outstanding, and one of the most polite people you could ever wish to meet!

Given how many people he met he (from what I heard anyway) was great to each and every person. Hoping he might come out some people had brought specific items they wanted signing and he sat and listened to every person talk through what it was they'd brought and where it was from...he was fantastic
