doesn't drink to get drunk. we've all seen him swig a beer on stage, and he does talk about a shot or two of tequila before a show, but that doesn't mean he drinks himself drunk. ;)
|
Yeah, fair enough. I guess I don't understand enough about the vertigo to believe that anything aside from drugs or alcohol can do that to someone's speech, comprehension and self-awareness.
I hope he gets better soon, whatever the problem may be. PS - Meat also said that he got his name when a VW ran over his head...! |
There's a few overblown comments being made and some people need to take a chill pill.
Meat went to the awards out of his own choosing even though he apparently knew he wasn't well long before he went. No it's not nice to see him like this, but it was his choice to go. And if you didn't know Meat and saw him stumbling out of a car you'd automatically think he'd had a drink or three, which asking for an autograph is fair game. The general public in Britain aren't armed with the knowledge about Meat Loaf, his drinking habits or his medical conditions like some people on here. Pud  |
Pud pretty much sums it up. It's really ashame to see him like this as it is just a very bad impression people will get of him, whether or not we like it or accept it.
|
Quote:
...I've always wanted to do that. Ha! He had the opportunity to pass on the awards and could have sent a message explaining his absence. The fact that he carried on and nobody stopped him is quite worrying. |
Quote:
That's true but he had travelled all the way from the usa and what he said was he became unwell on the morning of the awards. So if i was him i would have made the effort to turn up after travelling so far. I didn't think it was that bad yes he stubbled when he got out of the car, so people thought he was drunk. He's a grown man and if he had decided to get blattered before hand then that would be his choice why should someone have stopped him? My missus always tells me i've had enough when were on a night out and i don't listen to her! |
Well, I've finally got around to listening to the clips. As I've expected it was all blown out of proportion...it sounded to me like typical Meat albeit very much tired...which is understandable.
And now for the question...should he...shouldn't have he...I thought about it for a while and my first reaction was..well, he probably shouldn't have... And then...you have to remember...this is MEAT...large than life Meat who probably at 61 still thinks he is 21...it is very hard to live your life being this bear of a man and face the reality of being older now...I for one understand very well...so...he did what he thought was best and that's that... |
Regardless of who you are or how far you've travelled it's no excuse to ignore the warning signs about your health. Meat threw caution to the wind, no one asked him to and no one stopped him. It is sad to see him in that state but I'd rather not see him at all if he isn't well.
Pud  |
Quote:
Do not misunderstand me, I am not looking for any excuses...I am just looking for possible explanations... |
Of course he wasn't feeling well before the awards, he said that himself, he woke up with vertigo, the room was spinning around and he needed to see a Doctor, those are his words not mine. He stumbled out of the car, didn't look at all well, stumble up on stage, mumbled some incoherent sentence, got bundled off the stage by Al Murray, then went to see a Doctor.
If health is less important than recieving a crappy looking award then so be it. Personally I'd have gotten someone to accept it on my behalf, like what Pearl did for Meat at the Classic Rock Awards not too long ago. Pud  |
Strikes me this was a no win situation for Meat.
He wakes up on the morning of the awards and he feels unwell ... if he cancels his appearance there's the risk of the negative headlines and stories regarding him pulling out of attending. So, he turns up and what doe she get? Negative headlines and stories regarding him attending. |

Very well said Pud. Meat wasn't well, he's now recovering, I think we should now get back to the main point of the thread which is the great news that Bat Out Of Hell has been recognised in such a way and given the award
The link that AndrewG posted (just above this post if I'm typing quick enough  ) quips that actually it was Jim who wrote the song not Meat, does anyone know if Jim was mentioned at the ceremony? |
Quote:
|
Meat tried to mention Jim, he said something along the lines of " Jim......Jimmy... " and then made the 'over the top' quote.
|
More news on Meat;
Meat Loaf's dizzy day SHOCK ! Meat Loaf rushed to hospital Meat Loaf blames rambling speech on 'vertigo'. Clickety-Click I have to agree with Andy's post, Meat's damned if he is and damned if he isn't, either way the papers would find some reason to make or get a negative story but I do feel it's unfair that all the media seem to focus on is his health and not the accomplishment that Bat has acheived in getting this recognition. I wish Meat a speedy recovery. |
Because he's not in the public eye as much anymore (in terms of being a huge selling artist or appearing on MTV etc daily and weekly) any small thing he does that can be shown as an out of the ordinary story will be published and hey at the end of it all, he is there to be shot at (so to speak)
No such thing as bad publicity at the end of the day and maybe if it does one thing it will be to sell a few more copies of Bat from some of the younger Q readers. |

Jog my memory, what else did he not attend?

Was it the Kerang awards? Pearl picked it up for him
|
thought it was the classic rock thingy? wasnt the kerrang awards the one where he used the f word countless times?

As for he didn't attend a previous award and then if he hadn't attended this, i really don't think that they stop giving people awards just if they can't attend, afterall a lot of acts are out on the road etc, again thats just my opinion. |

It's pretty obvious in hindsight, that Meat's best course of action would have been to stay tucked up in his hotel room (or even LA if he was ill before he travelled). |
I think I must've been living under a rock the last 24 hours, no idea how I missed all this going on! Wish I hadn't watched the video clips but ah well.
Hope Meat makes a full recovery very soon. |

Damned healthy would be nice;) |
have not been online for a couple of days, just read this thread and seen some clips ((not all, wished i had not seen one or two,bit upsetting)).
Godd on meat for getting the award and making it to the awards, and lets hope he makes a speedy recovery and feels loads better a.s.a.p. A friend of mine suffers with vertigo and she has had some terrible times with it.. |

At the end of the day Meat did what he thought was best or the people he's surrounded with made that decision for him. I think he needs to surround himself with better people in all honesty as he clearly wasn't in a coherent mental state. Pud  |
Quote:
He could have showed up sober ;) *sits back, relaxes, sips his tea and waits for the stones to be thrown* |
Just don't hold that tea too close to your face when they throw a stone at you!

I don't believe Meat was drunk either, but I find it puzzling how he was coherent to say he had Vertigo several times but incoherent for everything else he said.
I hope he gets better soon. Pud  |
Meat drunk? Nah
I'm more concerned as to why RJ wants to get stoned!!!!! |
A couple of things.
It's getting a little tiresome to come on here and see RJ trying to start an argument when there isn't one to start in the first place. Pud, I still think you've missed my point, not that it matters :p |
grrr, met such a horrible woman today! we were discussing music on the bus, and i said how i was a big fan of meatloaf, she said, and i quote "oh that arrogant b*****d, i cant stand that man, did you see how much of a tw*t he made of himself the other night, it was all over the papers, blaming vertigo, he was bloody drunk!" when asked whether she had ever listened to any of his work, "why would i listen to someone who behaves like that in public, i've seen clips of him on T.V he's so arrogant and agressive on stage!" unfortunatly even after three stops of explanation theratre and acting on stage seemed beyond her grasp! i have no problem with other people liking different things, but sometimes people are awful, and the mwdia doesn't help!!! :@

"Why? Well maybe cuz it's brilliant music sung by a fantastic singer/performer. But if you want to stick with shit music that will probably never touch your soul be my guest. Good luck to you. Oh there's your stop, mind you don't trip on the way out the door." ;-) |

I don't give a FF, if people think i am odd for liking Meat and seeing loads of his concerts, my money, my time, my choice. I don't tell them what to do with their time or money! My dad is a huge Meat fan, he introduced me to his music with Bat 1 . God bless him! |

The actual statement though is true. Here in NZ whenever someone asks me where I'm from it's always "Yorkshire" that I say first not England or Britain and there's a few other people from Yorkshire here too and they say the same. Pud  |

OH MY GOD she is going to be so sorry she wrote this, jumped up cow |
 Why?
You going to plant a car bomb for her? It's a piece written by someone who obviously doesn't like Meat, or his music. Ask me to do her job in 20 years and report on the special gong for Could It Be Magic by Take That, and you will probably get much worse than anything she could ever say about Meat  . If anything, she shows herself as being extremely biased on the subject, and is not professional enough to write a balanced piece about something not to her taste  . And for a "news" (funny enough, a lot of the news links are to other news reporting sites, so they are hardly big time are they?) site calling itself The Register - biting the hand that feeds it, gives a bit of an indication that they want to piss people off. They might as well call it the Daily Troll. People like this are much too insignificant to worry about and only have any real impact when you give them the attention they crave (I put it down to them not being given enough cuddles as children :bleh: ) Best way to hurt them is to completely ignore them. |
You do have to understand that reporters who report on artists (I know this in particular from such a reporter) have to follow their publication line, right?
I mean...they do have a chance to quit if they disagree...or get fired...but they do have to follow "party line"... |
People's careers in all walks of life have been built on controversey...the reporter gets noticed, for a little while but as much as it is blunt, a lot of it is stating fact...in relation to the health problems
|
no nothing like that just tell her what i think. it's a right load of crap!!! those insults are just uncalled for and i've told her so. I know alot about the Media and how it works i worked in it for a few years but i had to tell her what i thought
|
 You've reacted to her, which is just she wanted.
A troll feeds of negative feedback from annoying people (such as e mails complaining about what they've said in an article) No feedback = no food = sad troll  . "YOU B@STARD" = Dinner Bell = Trollerlicious :D :p e mailing this woman is just giving her the attention she craves and the vindication she needs. IGNORE HER. |
whatever you say, but she should be told, i think someone bet me to it lol.
