Exactly- celebs can't always stop to talk. If fans decide to wait, then that's their choice; they shouldn't blame the celeb, especially if they are "working".

I too am absolutely disgusted by the negative press and the online attack!!! But please don't judge all of Australia by a few morons. Meat has thousands upon thousands of loyal fans here!!!

My friend at work is well & truly disgusted by what I have told her, she can't believe that people can be so cruel and not think for themselves

As a very ashamed and disgusted Aussie, I couldn't have said it better! The minority over here are a pack of conceted and unappreciative pigs! Everytime that the Aussie tour has been mentioned (the bad stuff), I have squirmed! As a country girl from Aus I thought our country was great, but now I think otherwise! :-(:-(:-(

As for his concert that I saw for the first time in the Hunter Valley, it was bloody awsome!!!! Rain and all! I thoroughly enjoyed it! I was glad that hubby didn't come as I was able to let my hair down and be myself for once. Thank you soooooo much for that great concert! You rocked, and you rocked hard! Gotta love HIAHB too!

I agree with you too lol, but as an Aussie Meat lover myself, it still makes me cringe! We do have a reputation outside of the music world for being arrogant! But Meat won't forget his fans here! :-) He loves his fans in Australia like he does the ones all around the world! :-)

People are certainly cruel lol, that's for sure! You know, if I acted in that manner as a kid I would have been smacked and sent to my room. People just don't get what values are anymore, that's the sad thing here! Mad mad world we live in!

Please take some time out, give yourself a well earned break and reconsider. Like many others on here have said, don't let the arseholes win. Go out there and keep on proving them wrong.

Carole

Couldn't have said it better lol :-) As I know a little bit about music, his keys were good! He was great! We are all human, but should be treated with respect, and that's what people should do with Meat. TREAT HIM WITH THE RESPECT HE DESERVES! He's a legend, and such a beautiful man and a great musician. So let us all band together and treat him properly! This gentle human being has a heart too, and a big one at that! It doesn't deserve to be torn apart! Luv ya Meat!

Ok, you maybe right there, but down the track Meat may want to retire from touring, not that I want him too at all as I've only had the opportunity to see him once, but what I'm trying to say here is that all get to a stage in life, later down the track, where we want to try something new, or use our other talents that we may have.

For me I would be really sad to see him retire, especially because of the minority of idiots in my country. But what ever he decides to do I will accept and support him fully. At the end of the day I am a Meat fan, and I'd follow him which ever way he goes! :-)

The Meat Loaf I will always remember is the hard working, hard rocking and funny bloke whose music has helped me through some hard times, someone whos shows have given me so much pleasure and put a smile on my face since I was a kid. My first gig was a ML gig in 1988 when i was 11, that gig shaped me and the music i listen to now so im not gonna let some petty minded idiots ruin my memories.

Meat Loaf..The best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be.

God Bless Ya Meat, you are a legend!

Amen to that mate! We are loyal fans no matter what he decides!

But we are the best reflection of it's infinite value Try and keep that reflection in your view, because you know in your head and your heart that this is what you see every time you step onto an arena stage, walk out and see us waiting, and see it when you hold your hands high and look out at us cheering at the end.

It's a wonderful thing to be so wanted, to bring so much joy to so many. And when you do decide to move onto other things, other ways to use that God given talent, let it be on a high because you're fired with energy to make that move, not because you feel tired, frustrated, crushed by a bunch of jackasses. You don't need to answer them, or even try to prove them wrong; they are so by definition and action.

You've always done it your way, on your terms. You have my love, support and trust, and that of so many. And we are legion.

Caryl

Well said Caryl! :-) Yes Meat, you don't have to prove yourself to anybody! You are a great person, performer and singer! In my eyes your fire in the belly will bring you through. The desire to sing will remain always, and mate just DON'T EVER STOP ROCKING! My love and thoughts are with you always Meat! Always! :-)

Hopefully, when Meat's had time to consider everything, he will remember that performing is what makes him happy. (I last saw Meat perform live this past April, and he and Paul were grinning like kids at each other through much of the show. They were having a BLAST! It was so much fun to watch. :D)

Yes, the time to hang up the scarf will creep around sometime. But, imho, this is the worst possible time to do it.

We all know this not the way Meat wants to go out - handing himself over to the "ravage aussie beasts". And Meat knows it too.

I believe Meat's innate intelligence is going to prevail after some much needed sleep. Hindsight is always 20/20, and I for one don't want Meat to look back at giving up what he clearly loves because of critics who don't deserve the time of day, rather than when he is ready to do it from the heart, after planning and real consideration of everything involved.

Meat, you've got the love and support of so very, very many. We're here. If you find yourself at the dawn of a new day and still feel the same way, please don't do anything rash. Let's talk!! PLEASE.

With love and deep admiration,

Sue

Well said lol! :-)

I've never been more ashamed to call myself an Aussie than after this whole debacle. It saddens and sickens me to read/hear/see what has been in the media over the past 30 days.

I couldn't blame you for never wanting to step foot in the country again but don't deprive those all around the world of seeing you in action. I hope at the very least that you will continue to record music for many years to come.

If this has been your last tour, let me say that seeing you three weeks ago was a dream come true and an experience I will never forget. I hope I will get the opportunity (if not in Australia, then overseas) to relive that in the future.

I defend you all the time here, the HCTB shows I've heard are some of my favourite shows you've ever done, I think your last two albums are absolutely killer, I've been to a lot of concerts, worked with a lot of singers, seen Dylan a dozen times, Brian Wilson, R.E.M., Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, Alice Cooper, the list goes on, if any of them were playing next door to a Meat Loaf show I'd be at your show every night and thats no bull. They all have their gifts but none of them ever put it on the line every night like you do. You remain my favourite performer, but if a few naysayers - primarily the press, (who's whole motivation these days is putting down celebrities, especially visiting ones) is all it takes to make you hang up your hat, I can't deny I'm disappointed. It'd be sad if 100 years from now when people talk about the blood, sweat and tears, balls to the wall rock star that was Meat Loaf, they have to end the story with 'and then the Aussie press sank their teeth into him and he quit'.

If the adoration and respect of 9000 cheering, paying fans a night can be drowned out by 90 pricks with keyboards, that's a huge shame, it's as good as saying we can't have music and can't have heroes anymore.

I hope once you're out of Oz you feel differently. There's no place like home.

Didn't you say it took you 40+ years to put together the perfect band? To do what, throw them away?

If this really is it, I'll never forget all the energy, effort, comradeship and camaraderie I enjoyed through your music and performance.

The ~~~~~~~s only win if you let them win.

Love you back.

Awww, be careful there mate! I'm an Aussie here who loves and adores Meat! I saw him in concert for the first time ever, this tour! Yes I despise the Aussie media and the minority of ~~~~ heads in this country, but his fans here aren't the bad ones! I cringe every time someone makes a statement about Australia, as unfortunately I have to claim myself as one! But please don't think his fans down under don't care, because they really do!!! I know some individuals walked out. But they weren't real Meat fans! They probably haven't seen him before and were only there so they could brag to their friends about it, even though they don't know his music or what sort of man he is!
Anyway, his concerts in Australia rocked, and our Man will get past this, as that fire in the belly will never go out! :-)

The keys are fine just listen to some 2011 you tubes before I went there and did 90 interviews and stayed in that dry climate. The AFL was not not great but not bad bad enough to be boiled in oil. and hung on a tree. I disagree with that key statement. The are fine 95% of the time and the way I sing lower keys make it harder to sing. It doesn't make any difference anymore . I'm done. I will finish the DVD and finish the album ... Perth was my last show . I can't fight anymore.

I was the guy who posted about the keys :3

I seriously hope that my post wasn't the deciding factor in this decision, because if it was, then I will quite literally cry  That post was NEVER intended to say your singing wasn't up to scratch, in the slightest. It was just a suggestion, which was obviously unnecessary considering your explanation about the dryness.

I can't really say anything else here that someone else hasn't. It's terrible that you've been treated the way that you have, and I feel terrible that my country was the one which drove you to this.

If it makes you feel any better, when me and my family left the Melbourne show, you should have heard the audience as they were leaving. You were getting nothing short of RAVE reviews. I was walking down the sidewalk on the way out, and this one guy and his girlfriend came up to us, and he offered me a hundred dollars for the Hell and a Handbasket t-shirt I brought. Apparently the two of them were MASSIVE fans, and didn't get a chance to buy the t-shirt before they ran out of stock :( Another woman on the tram wouldn't stop talking about how incredible Paradise was. There was a little boy there, who was probably six or seven at the oldest, who wouldn't stop ranting at the top of his lungs at how awesome you were.

Point being, you have people who still adore you, even if the press seems to be entirely against you. They don't speak for the entirety of Australia when they bully you the way they do.

Also, how is this any different to the Bat 3 scenario? You came back to do HCTB because you didn't want to end on the abysmal low that Bat 3 brought with it. Surely this is the same situation again? Going out on a low is probably the worst way possible :(

If you 100% decide to do it, then I can respect that. I guess everyone has to do it someday. But I 100% disagree with your reasons for retiring.

Monstro 25 Oct 2011 09:31

I think it's fair that the guy who started the thread has the last word.
