I agree. Surely tales rhymes better with tails? Or is that some American pronunciation that fixes it??

So far for me buying tickets is major cluster F! TM is giving me the same sec 202 row u as the travel zoo link did. WOW! Maybe they're not selling mezz seats? Hmmmmm?

Butcher King 02 Aug 2013 19:15

I'll wait a bit. I don't want to be locked out of TM for looking for tix too many times. :(

AndyK 02 Aug 2013 19:16

Ticketmaster really don't make the buying process easy do they! Good luck!!!

I guess the producers think it will work .. and to be fair I think a lot of people enjoy those kind of "evenings with" which are a mix of humour, interaction, and songs/music. Certainly I loved Storytellers, and I think this should be even better .. remember he's not simply talking about the songs in this show, but telling stories and answering questions on his whole career

Quote:

But perhaps I am forgetting something in my argument above; the tellZ is probably a large part of the entertainment in a sense if done effectively .....
Having seen Meat in Storytellers, he'll do this effectively imo ;)

LucyK! 02 Aug 2013 20:20

Absolutely he will...just with an S not a Z!

Butcher King 02 Aug 2013 20:56

No luck. :( They are not selling mezzanine. I even called TM and they can pull up tix in mezz. I guess they want to sell the higher priced tickets first. I can't figure it out. Bummed for now.

Its beyond irritating as the alliteration is just obvious ! It can only be because there is a similar name / trade name / legal reason why it can't be Rocktales & Cocktails ?

If so you'd think they'd just come up with a different naming concept rather than what now appears to be an awkward compromise

MarkS 02 Aug 2013 21:48

I guess we will just have to file it under "you can't please the entire peanut gallery"

I for one am incredibly excited that I am going to get to attend 3 shows with good friends. No Meat and Greets (see what I did there) but am super excited just to be in the building.

I'm trying not to me picky but I'm going with my best friend who has scoliosis and can't stand for more than 20 minutes at a time. That's why I'm looking for 1st row mezz. I've been to concerts in the past with him and he puts on a good face but I know he's in pain. Makes me feel bad.

I know this is a different experience and not a concert format. Do you think people will be standing during this show? Maybe I should just buy the tickets and hope no one stands all night in front of us.

That's a shame about your friend :( I get the impression that since it is a different type of show (i.e. not your typical ML concert), people will be in their seats. I honestly don't know if they'll sell out or not, so if I were you I'd go ahead and get your tickets now.

Thanks Vicki. I think you're right. I can't imagine people standing during the Q&A section of the show.

I don't think people will stand. In Storytellers Meat sat for some of the time, the audience sat most of the time, standing to applaud or some for a few key songs. Casino audiences in the US aren't known for having legs ;) Meat will go from answering questions to song and back again .. nothing like a concert.

I'd go for the best you can find in the orchestra ... a little more but worth it. I wouldn't go for mezzanine for anything but cost reasons, and the orchestra would be worth the extra imo

Got them! I actually went back to the Travel Zoo site and bought them there because they are the same exact seats TM is selling. Usually you have to compromise when going through discount ticket sites {nose bleeds or far side seats.} Not this time! I saved about 20% off the tickets. Because of that I bought better orchestra seats. Woo hoo! :D Very exciting! :D

Looks like Travel Zoo has extended their discount until Aug 7th.

From your reliable source?

If it IS .. I wouldn't trust anyone who Meat clearly couldn't trust; but if I DID think they had a clue and weren't simply boasting or pulling my chain, I wouldn't post it on a general website.

If it's Warrio's guess .. well anyone could have guessed at that list ... except there's nothing to suggest this will be like a usual concert and have an "encore set". Meat says the contract calls for an hour and a half the same as all Vegas shows .. but he likes to talk;) I'm happy to wait and see what he does. Works for me every time :-) He didn't do an identical set at every Storytellers show .. so why should he at this one?

Wario 04 Aug 2013 14:12

"Reliable" source is giving him a bit too much credit but take it for what it is. I dont care one way or another. The set really doesn't have room to be that unique this go around anyway.

Maybe he will play Blind before I stop from start to finish and explain it has always been his favourite album and it has taking all this time leading up to Las Vegas to be able to perform it and that only those people at the gigs there truly like the songs.

I do have one question of Meat if he is to happen to read this thread. The description of the Vegas show says that it will feature stripped down version of the biggest hits. So, my question is, will all members of the Neverland Express be present for the shows?

Good question.

LucyK! 05 Aug 2013 20:28

Interesting question...I'd imagine everyone will be there as the NLE doesn't really have "extra" members, everyone has a role that only they can do.

I guess at a push the only instrument they could get away with dropping would be the sax, but Luther not being in that band doesn't even bear thinking about!

Evil One 05 Aug 2013 21:14

They could drop Randy too. It's been done before.

So would I. Meat had all the NLE for Storytellers, and this show is important to him, being played in Vegas, and he promises it will be better that ST. I too hope Dave Luther is there .. and the running campaign to get Randy to "take his shirt off" suggests to me that Frances knows he will be there .. unless she's hoping for the racecourse gigs ..:lol:

AndrewG 05 Aug 2013 21:54

Perhaps they could drop a bandmember here and there but I don't see why. Stripped down might just mean a more acoustic feel to some of the songs or Meat might simply ignore that part (which I think is the most likely route).

In either case I'd imagine a complete NLE line up is the most likely setting.

I can't think of anything more UN-Las Vegas than something like this: ;-)

CarylB 05 Aug 2013 22:01

Yes, I don't interpret "stripped down" as meaning losing band members

Oh wow, yes, I too was reading stripped down version from different press releases. They almost made it sound like it was going to be an unplugged acoustic show. If people take those press releases and set their expectations, I bet many will be slightly surprised. Wait til' the pyro hits. "Stripped down", pffft, my a$$.

 To be fair, to strip down and to deconstruct pretty means the same thing, and both terms are used to describe a retrospective of your career and experiences over the years.

The way I interpret what is said on the press release is that your career will be taken apart and looked at.
During this examination you will perform some of the songs that were highlights of your professional journey.

I don't think it's that bad, but there's obviously room for misunderstanding. :bleh:

I'm sure the show will be killer.
Hope you have a lot of fun and success in Vegas Meat

It will indeed .. and yes we do ;) But you can understand why Meat is miffed. What appears in the press can influence people, and he wants the show to sell out and be a success. Those of us here and on FB won't fill the theatre every night. They'll want to pull in a lot of casual fans, people who might not even say they are "fans", but will be in Vegas, looking for entertainment .. and the way the show is described can inform/affect their decision.

Once he's started and the full excitement of the show is seen, hopefully there will be sufficient media coverage to more accurately describe what the show is like and people will beat a path to its door :-)

just such a shame it happens again and again, this great artist never gets what he really should get!

Yes, it is a shame.
Finally Meat will get what he really should get from his fans. ;)

We should write a pre-review though.... :D

Yes, we've dealt with that already. Mel knew what I meant .. as did most people. I meant exclusively .. and check his garage!! It's not full of lawnmowers and power tools.

True. On a different slant, there is a nice billboard up in Vegas ;) !

Didn't stop the O2 selling out though did it ;)

People that aren't fans only hear Bat out of hell and expect me to have the same sped up 1/4 tone voice that was on Bat in 1976 when it was recorded. The tone of of my voice has changed because of the 3 sinus and the 2 Vocal cord surgery's. The tone change makes people say it's out of Key , I'm not . I'm not saying every note is perfect here and every night is great , I hit some flat notes but I'm not out of key, All you have to do is listen to the backgrounds . When someone is out of Key there is a huge clash between BG's and Piano. There are no clashes like that on any show tape . . There are show tapes I don't like and upsets me. We still do Bat, Paradise and Took the words in the same key they were recorded ,not sped up keys . Elton has lowered his keys a step or a step and a have down. D.T. and some of his evil band have been posting reviews on ticketmaster in the states to try and bring down my Star average. Motley Crue has a better star average than I do and he doesn't even sing the songs ... the Audience does , he sings a line and points the mike to the audience they sing. Venting, Meat

When I was at Sheffield this year I was sitting there just focusing on the quality of the musicians and your vocals and although I'd already seen you in concert three times before that, you amazed me with your voice. Yes, I know the tone of your voice has changed and I wouldn't expect you to sound like you did in 1977 but I like how your vioce is now and you certainly were NOT out of key or lacking in power.

You really do deserve better Meat but some people have rather sad lives and take pleasure out of trying to tear others down.

It sounds like you've got an AMAZING show planned for Vegas and althought I can't be there myself I'm looking forward to hearing about it from those who will be there.

And very few people care! If we wanted note perfect we'd stay home and listen to our 1/4 sped-up recordings ;)

tonyloaf 08 Aug 2013 21:26

Meat I think this tour showed how good the vocals were,
Objects - wow
HCW - wow
FCOL-wow
2 out of 3 - wow

And on top of that BAT!

Sebastian. 08 Aug 2013 21:30

Objects was just stunning. I guess it's always something to hear your favourite song live, but you nailed it amazing vocal.

D.T. is a nasty piece of work ... he sent me a horrible PM on Facebook that I should have reported but instead I just deleted it and blocked him right away :(
I wonder how many other people he's done this to :??:

Please feel free to vent all you want. I know you can definitely still sing Meat :D You were absolutely amazing at all of the shows that I saw during the Mad Mad
World Tour last summer ... and I know you'll be absolutely amazing in Vegas as well :D If I can't make it to Vegas, my hope is that you'll still be able to bring the
Last At Bat tour to NY and I'll be able to see you again sometime

Cole 08 Aug 2013 22:06

I could care less what you sing.... I love all of your songs! Hell, I don't even care if you sing or not.... I'm going regardless cuz you make the evening fun no matter what your doing :) just saying!:D

But I've seen you nip that live, when you introduce the songs off of Bat. You have explained in the live environment that the album was sped up (even throwing in an Alvin and the Chipmunk analogy) and after a superb rendition of 2 Out of 3 .... the roar of the audience was proof positive that your voice, as it is now, is plenty acceptable. So you have found that way to combat the "average" expectation.

Vent away. I agree with your assessment of D.T. and his evil plot to seek and destroy any reliable internet rating system for you. It's disgusting and makes my stomach turn for you. I wish there were something more we can do to offset those reviews.

I understand and feel for you. It's grossly unfair, and disgraceful.

What I would say is that, even if some will come expecting you to sound like '76 and Alvin, once you start I really believe the vast majority of people in every audience are swept away by your charisma, passion, stagecraft and your vocals. There's a solid maturity now that is just as impressive as when you toured in the early years.

It's atrocious that an unstable and dementedly jealous jackass can campaign to bring down your ratings on TM, and must be hugely frustrating, but I don't believe it would influence any fans, nor even really influence those who know of you and the reputation for excellence you've achieved over the years. You are a household name, and in my view people who are in or coming to Vegas on holiday will be attracted by that, and won't be put off by his miserable campaign. Even if people bother to consider the star ratings or read the reviews (and I suspect most don't) there is a sameness of offensive wording about many of the blistering ones which would make me suspicious immediately, and such a contrast between them and the preponderence of extremely enthusiastic ones, that I think people would give more weight to the many, many 5 star reviews.

But vent .. and move on. Would the producers have chosen you to headline the first season if they didn't know you were the best? :-) You know just how special you're planning this show will be! .. and we trust you :-)

stretch37 08 Aug 2013 23:42

Meat, any song you sing instantly turns to gold for me :D And for many of those, I had absolutely no interest in the original!!

Some examples....Bagel Bites (edit..ok there was no original, but even singing about bagels moved me immensely!! :P :P), Mercury Blues, and that youtube of you singing Honkey Tonk Woman with Pearl, Scott and Patti! I never liked it it had your epic touch.

Positive vibes coming your way, I have no doubt that after each show, the crowd will be amazed by your energy, and in a state of ecstasy about what has just happened to them. That's how I always feel after your shows, like I'm coming out of some sort of dream state. Usually I'm in completely another place for hours after, and I'm sure most of us on here would agree :D :D

Guy 08 Aug 2013 23:51

Bums on seats will put all this nonsense to bed. Same s**t different day.

Butcher King 09 Aug 2013 03:02

I'm sorry, who is D T? :??: PM if you like. Thanks.

Butcher King 09 Aug 2013 03:04

Meat, you will be fantastic in Vegas. Counting the days to the 3rd of Oct!

Tina.K. 09 Aug 2013 10:56

Meat, you will do great in Vegas because it will be unique!! Don't let others make you insecure, you're still great. There will always be acid pissers (is that good English?). Tearing another down will lift them up they think. How dumb can a person be...

By the way, I just finished your book and - man - have you got a good memory!! All the names, all the places, all the stories. How on earth can you remember them? And there must be a lot more. Hope you will bring out another autobiography book one day..

So there's a lot to be told on the Vegas show, very interesting. People will love it!

besty 10 Aug 2013 02:10

It would be quite amazing if Bon Jovi put a song "Meat Loaf in Vegas" into their live set!

Butcher King 10 Aug 2013 21:37

Just booked a room at my favorite hotel and casino! Happy!!!! :)

Breeze 11 Aug 2013 05:34

I can think of several artists that sound better as they matured-- Leonard Cohen & Tom Jones voice is different now. I think they are better. " To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven". Every season has beauty.
So many of your songs lend themselves to your voice as it is now. When you sing "Objects" it still brings me to tears.

"...If you don't worry 'bout the future,
Sooner or later it's the past
And if they say the thrill is gone,
Then it's time to take it back..."

Your fans won't leave you and screw the rest.

Or even a "chart" and it's only available on the first show

For me all live recordings (Bat3, MSO, etc.) and bootlegs sounded strange in the last 10 years. If it's about your sinus or chords, it's okay. But... why don't you low the song's key and speed them down? I just can't listen, watch and stand any live recordings in the last years... :(

WHo can not stand MSO? MSO is probably the single greatest live DVD ever conceived.

Sure it felt like it could use one more song but it was perfect otherwise.

White of High 18 Aug 2013 03:24

Not to me. It's even the worst symphonic concert I've ever seen. Compare to the Scorpions Berliner Philharmoniker for example...

Saying this as gently as possible .. but we've long established you haven't really liked anything Meat has done for a very long time, and you won't need to feel you can't listen/watch/stand any more because Meat has done with touring .. so all you need to do is avoid anything posted so far this century on YouTube and you'll be saved from listening or watching any live recordings.

There's no sign that the producers intend to record Meat's Vegas show, so you'll be saved that too .. although many others will be hugely disappointed, particularly those in Europe who were at the amazing Last at Bat tour and would give their eye teeth to see Rocktellz and Cocktails. But if we get lucky we'll warn you .. and I doubt there will be many bootlegs on YT from Vegas; illicit recording is likely to be difficult in such a small theatre

Yes and no.
Yes - it was perfect.
No - it is not (IMHO) greatest live DVD, because "Guilty Pleasure" is even better  (my mom has different point of view ;) ).
