That plus he's got a very astute manager in Jon Landau.

How could I forget that!

Amazing. Can't believe just how much is in the boxset. I'm especially looking forward to the Houston show. Will have a better look at the list of contents when I'm home.
|
this might as well be the best music related single-album box set I've ever seen...
|
 Makes me wish I were a Springsteen fan

The Houston show must be one of the very few boots from 78 I've never heard, so that's a bonus for me too. What a great Brucey year for concert footage releases and unexpected gems. :)) |

This box actually has a lot more than I expected, and the price is not bad at all, considering what you get. I'm with Sarge- I can't wait to see that notebook! :D Quote:

Observations on the Wario post:
I seriously doubt the 27 minute version of Paradise exists, at least not a 27 minute version studio take. I think that is just a load of made up bollox really. LPs would rarely have sides running over 25 minutes anyway. Also I'm not sure they would want to release any Meat BFG sessions as his voice sucked and that was the reason he left production, so it probably won't sound as good as Jim's/Rory's version and therefore what would be the point? After the announcement of London 82 DVD live yet another early 80s live DVD release would seem an absolute waste of time to me. Even though I am a huge fan of Meat AND Springsteen there is not enough diversity in Meat's early shows in my opinion (mainly because of the lack of live songs) to warrant any further releases of that period. I much rather have a more original approach to a Meat Loaf boxset, one that stems from his late 80s / 90s live material. The reason the Springsteen studio material boxsets approach works so well is because he has literally written hundreds and hundreds of songs (and recorded most of these at some point) unlike Mr Steinman. |
Is it November yet?

a) I don't think Steinman's approach is like Springsteen's. Maybe he has written more songs but Steinman only seems to have gone into the studio when he has songs ready and then ~~~~~~ off asap. I doubt many alternate takes and recordings of unheard Steinman songs exist. Daveake (I believe it was him) pointed out recently he is terrible with deadlines making me wonder if he is really a prolific songwriter. and b) the lack of proper recordings of Steinman's more recent material. Demos everywhere but no proper sessions with 1 artist or group whoever that may be, thus completely unusable for release. I think between the Batman demos alone there must be enough material for 1 album at least. And if he does really have bat 3 songs why not to do them instead of focusing on more rehash of the same thing? Such boxsets only work if you have something to put on them. Indeed Meat has recorded more without Steinman but I doubt anyone would be that bothered about B sides from the 80s or 90s if they are not Steinman penned. Therefore I think a live material boxset would be better. |

But there would be beer.

But it would be Carlsberg ...

True, but bad lager is better than no lager at all.

I take it the Darkness box also contains about 7 songs not even the most hardcore Springsteen fans have ever heard of.... |
