Some. It's not as bad as Saudi, for example.

I was thinking the same thing Suzie, and I'd be even more so since I flew all the way from Australia for my meet and greets.

I seem to remember an arabic Dead Ringer release where the skimpily dressed girls had orange dresses painted on...

Those orange dresses painted on look tacky, but not to bad all the same. It's so silly that women can't show any of their feminine qualities. I'm guessing the video for AFL never saw the light of day out there too. Unless they edited out Dana Patrick, and got rid of that rouchy scene on the bed.

Meanwhile back to the on topic discussion about the Meat Loaf fan base around the world ...

Steve6 06 Oct 2010 17:06

I have a question does anyone know how popular Meat Loaf is in Russia? It's a massive country with a big population, but I never heard of him doing a show there or never heard how successful his albums or singles were. Maybe he was there in the 80s, not sure. He's done a lot European Tours but hasn't went to Russia.

CarylB 06 Oct 2010 18:02

There was a Russian Meat site but it's no longer on-line.

I'd imagine you'd find there were Meat Loaf fans in most countries.

There's certainly a Russian issue of BBIS on vinyl, complete with Cryllic text on the cover.

And there's a few bootlegs appear regularly on eBay which are Russian ;)

When I look at the statistics of just the Meat Loaf index page on my website, I've got visitors from 41 countries on 6 different continents. Not that that's any proof that all those visitors are fans, but still.

(When I look at the site wide stats, I got visitors from 107 countries.)

Considering that the socialist countries usually had to pay license fees and wouldn't spend money on western artists that weren't popular, I assume there were Meat Loaf fans in the Soviet Union. It's just a bit strange that it was that album because labels like Melodiya used to focus on well-known, successful records or released their own "Best of" compilations. (The Soviet BBIS has some info on Meat Loaf and his career printed on the back cover, a typical feature of East European records of that time.)
