Picked up my copy of Computer Active this morning Page 6, description of mine to a tee:-

The virus MiMail still threatens PC users. Victims receive an e mail disguised as a message from the user's domain name 'administrator' with an attachment, named message.zip. This creates a file on the receipients computer and then searches the hard disk to harvest e mail addresses from the the victims computer. Have checked out www.virusalert.com and certainly feel more informed now, lots of very good information. Clear again at the moment

Testify 21 Aug 2003 14:17

AHHH had 4! deleted them!! thankyou!! :D

Tim 21 Aug 2003 14:18

I've deleted some strange looking windows files.... they don't belong in windows and programs that windows is using....

Hope this computer is clean!

dottie 21 Aug 2003 15:00

If these morons are so intelligent, why don't they use their brains creatively for the good of mankind, instead of harrassing people like myself, hope their computers overload and self destruct. I for one would be :D

Tim 21 Aug 2003 15:04

Actually Dottie, i think that some virusus are very handy.... Don't know wich ones... but i've heard of some virussus that are nice.

I would love to have a virus that i can spy on other peoples computer... hhehehe... but that they don't know that it is there, and everything they type will be as a word file.... and sent to me

dottie 21 Aug 2003 15:08

Oh Tim, how could you  Well at least I've nothing to hide, come over and have a peek. I'll get my web cam out if it makes things easier

Keep your machines safe with this guide.....

You can easily detect whether your home computer is currently affected by any of this week's big three outbreaks for free.

Log on to the following websites to run a simple program that will scan your machine and clean it if necessary.

Go to http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger and follow the on screen instructions

Or go to http://securityresponse.symantec.com. and click on the 'check for security risks button - unable to gain access to this site at the moment

To download Microsoft's patch to protect yourself from Blaster, go to
www. windows.com/downloads.

Tim,

The virus you are thinking of is called Back Orifice. I use a modded version at work to track the computers in the other shops are up to. Also very useful for running remote tasks for tech support purposes (and scaring the shit out of people when you start flashing random messages up on their till screen!!!!)

dottie 22 Aug 2003 19:19

Back Orifice! Is that for real Chris

Tim 23 Aug 2003 13:49

THanks Chris... so there is a virus like that... Wow!!! Sounds cool.

But anyway.. still got the worm virus. Anyone got Norton??

Michel 23 Aug 2003 16:29

I've got norton. It warns me when the virus is back. But with the patch, I don't get it anymore.

dottie 24 Aug 2003 17:49

Oh Err! I've just checked my e-mail and its BACK!!! Or its a new one :!: :??:  Well here we go again :o

Michel 25 Aug 2003 11:19

It is still not back here.

dottie 25 Aug 2003 11:39

Hopefully Michel that will now be the end of it - no problem riding myself of them, just a nuisance now

dottie 26 Aug 2003 17:35

Well some kind a......e is now sending me the sobig virus - thank you who ever you are, hope your computer implodes and takes you with it. I have every kind of precaution on my computer but they still keep coming

8 this morning :x - I don't know what to do, they look so innocent and some could possibly be sent from one of my contacts, so I just delete the whole lot, just hope I don't miss anything important!

Methinks will have to change my e mail address

I have had another 6 since then

As of 21.47 I have received 20, now if anyone can tell me how to stop this I would be eternally grateful

dottie 28 Aug 2003 11:50

5 more this morning, they look normal though, and have things like aol, hotmail in the address, but they all have attachments and I don't recognise the names, anybody any suggestions apart from continue to delete them? any advice would be gratefully received - thanks

Help!!! please someone out there must know how to get rid of this rubbish that is polluting my e mail box. Is there something else I can do or will it just burn its self out :??: I'm losing count today... and getting seriously worried...is it interferring with my computer even though I am deleting them ? It is taking a little longer to connect - and I have broadband too  thank you to anyone who takes the trouble to read this and advise :)

know. Inbox was chock a block this morning -

Just checked Inbox again - Yahoo Customer Care, have confirmed yet again that these are malicious e mails, and just to keep on deleting them

Chris, I use a program (not a virus) on the kid's computers at the school I work at. When I am watching their computer screen from my desk a tiny pair of eyes appear on their screen. Freaks them out bad! (Though taking control of their computer remotely and typing messages to them is even more fun! They get so flustered).

Dottie,
I had someone send me (quite literally) over 300 emails with the SoBig attachment in about 48 hours. Thankfully it stopped fairly quickly, but the research that I did on it said that it will die off effective Sept 10. So it nothing else, you can look forward to it ending then.

dottie 29 Aug 2003 17:34

Hi Sherrie thanks for getting back to me - until that date   ......... its made me feel better knowing that you have been plagued by these malicious e mails, I was beginning to think I was alone, I thought I had done something wrong :?

The Flying Mouse 29 Aug 2003 17:49

 I have a theory on who the culprit could be.
ROY.
He probibily thinks the only way to get you're attention for more than 5 mins is to trash the computer
Or maybe i've been watching too many Scooby Doo cartoons 8O .

And he would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you snooping kids!

<typical ending line of every single Scooby Doo episode, for those who are Scooby impaired>

dottie 29 Aug 2003 20:32

Well Mousie, I don't know what to say - yes you could be right  but I will hasten to add that I only enter the forum when Roys not home, (he has his own business )and works hellishly long hours, all the better for me  and to top it all Roys a technophobic, wouldn't get him within 100 miles of a computer

dottie 01 Dec 2003 23:16

Just an update folks, some nasty individual infected my computer with the Blaster Virus, couldn't access anything and have had to revert back to factory settings losing everything

SO BE VILIGANT

ROSIE 01 Dec 2003 23:18
