Maths is easy!

It's just like any other academic subject..... Thay are all very, very easy simply because they can all be learnt. It's harder for some people to learn than others but at the end of the day, it can be learnt. Even Einstein knew nothing about maths and science until he became interested in the subjects in his early 20s. He just basically sat there and learnt them!

The highest form of intelligence is creativity! It cannot be learnt and it causes more migrains than (0) = (0) and all that crap. Art and Design is such an underated subject and all for the wrong reasons. Most people are not open minded enough to understand the fact that the worlds greatest artists were in fact some of the worlds most intelligent people. Yikes, look at Da Vinci!

How about this one then:

The square root of 25 (sqrt(25)) is +/- 5

So,
sqrt(25) = sqrt(25)
5 = -5
10 = 0 (adding 5 to both sides)
1 = 0 (dividing both sizes by 10)

Actually the second line should read +/-5 = +/- 5, as your line is a statistical impossibility the equation collapses at theat point and cannot be resolved further without knowing definite +/-.

Quote:

We know that for all numbers A, A*1 = A
Also, we know that for all numbers A, A*0 = 0

So, if we multiply both sides of that last equation by A, we get:

A = 0

Thus proving that all numbers equal zero.
A*1 = A and A*0 = 0 when multiplied by A gives us
A(A*1) = AA which is correct and A(0) = A(0) which is correct. You haven't proved A is 0, all you have proved is that A, when muliplied by 0, is 0.

God, I must be bored!!

And now I am bored too...:(

Ok...I looked at this closer...yes, we don't know whether it's +5 or -5...but...theoretically speaking...it can be assumed that it's -5 since -5 squared gives us +25...so by the same token...it is possible that it's -5...

I didn't look further cause it's on the other page and I am tired and hungry...later...

i love applied mathmatics, great stuff!!! shame no one can do algebra anymore, well very few people.

duke knooby 02 Sep 2006 01:00

nope makes no sense, if a squared equals ab, which mathmatically in my day, was a times b, then a and b are the same number, and then i got bored.

mszee 02 Sep 2006 01:13

Alright...is this post your thoughts thread????

Am I in the wrong thread again???

Yes, of course, mathematically speaking there is only one answer and it's just 5...

But it's fun to look at the equations like this and boggle your mind to a degree that you start thinking that there is actually a possibility that 2=1 and all numbers equal 0...

Why don't all numbers equal 0 anyway???

Because as everyone should know nothing is equal to zero since the answer to Life, the universe & Everything = 42. :twisted:

Alex 02 Sep 2006 20:51

We apologise for any inconvenience. ;)

Sorry for making this thread lol

Hmmm.... I think I feel good about it.

djfierce 02 Sep 2006 20:58

I am officially mathematically embarrassed :oops:

The person above me appears to be Douglas Adams fan...

Oops...wrong thread again...:oops:

Back on topic...

Bravo, maestro!!!

You just solved my dilemma...

If all numbers should be zero...and the answer to the ultimate question of the Universe is 42...therefore, 42=0!!!

:twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

djfierce 02 Sep 2006 22:13

Who's Douglas Adams? DOH! :doh: now i'm culturally embarrassed

mszee 02 Sep 2006 22:14

He is a writer. The most famous book - Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

djfierce 02 Sep 2006 22:17

:oops: never had the urge to read it unfortunately, but i will now ;)

You still don't have to...to each his own...and there is no shame in any of it...

mszee 03 Sep 2006 20:02

Here is another mathematical improbability for you...

If

You're as young as you feel AND age is just a number

Then

I=5

*Hugs and kisses*

duke knooby 04 Sep 2006 22:15

so if I=5, then whats f?

Actually, it will never work cause I forgot to put End If...

And where do you see F anyway????

duke knooby 04 Sep 2006 22:31

as quoting is beyond me in this site, f is in the mathematical problem u put, ie If

mszee 04 Sep 2006 22:33

All you have to do is click on "Quote" button and presto...

I was actually sort of programming in VB...

If
Then
End if

If one condition is true or false, then do this...and close the shop...
